She bucked her family’s extreme values for what was best for her child, and to repeat everyone who said it, I wouldn’t drop off MY baby at a house where Grandma did/had drugs. I’m also not going to assume the sister is telling the truth (or lying, either), because when families get in arguments about who gets what baby, things get ugly and people have this tendency to say things that aren’t true or they don’t mean when they’re pissed.

I’m also not going to hold her to her mother’s standards, because she’s obviously not her mother. Her decisions as an adult – an adult, who acts independently of her parents – reflect that.

I don’t care to hear it when the nation wants to tear apart the children of national figures that they don’t like. Ridicule Palin (or Obama) if you don’t like them, but Sasha and Bristol aren’t trying to change legislation.

Then they burp and fart a few times and scratch where they shouldn’t and embarrass you on the world stage by generally acting like a monosyllabic troglodyte and their family done goes and gets all arrested and stuff for drugs, and suddenly they’re white trash.

Fickle, fickle youth.

(in all seriousness…if the drug stuff is true then there’s no way in the world I’d let my child go over there or be involved with them…but wouldn’t Bristol have had suspiscions when they were sleeping together?)

No one has ever hesitated to point me out as being “the Spanish girl”,”the curly haired girl”, “the short girl”, or even (gasp) “the white girl”. I am not offended by it. Those are adjectives that describe who I am (even if Spanish is highly generic, but I don’t expect anyone to automatically pick out that I am Cuban either), and I am not ashamed of who I am. In college, when I worked in a predominantly black day care center, all the parents called me “the white girl” until they learned my name. If I were offended by a description of myself, it would imply that I am ashamed, apologetic, or feel that I am somehow inferior. I would imagine that any rational human being would know better than to take offense at being described as they are.

So, if anyone has an issue with my saying, “So and so is the black lady in the red dress,” they can suck it, honestly. I think Beige and Minnow said it best, but if someone is going to have a fit over a descriptive word, then they aren’t really living on the same plane of existence as the rest of the world.
