A funny thing happened on the way to the “Snark Sixteen,” sports fans: This tourney caught some serious fire! Thanks to a mention by the kind and brilliant (did we forget handsome?) Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit.com, yesterday’s voter turnout was by far the biggest we’ve ever seen. And the results neatly confirmed the instincts behind our tournament seeding. (The top four contenders all advanced.)
When I looked at the server logs this morning and saw that more than 30,000 people had voted, I thought someone had stuffed the ballot boxes. Again. But no — this was 100 percent legit.
The result could, just maybe, indicate the preferences of Instapundit readers more than anything else. But I’m not about to pull a “U.S. Census maneuver,” replacing the raw count with an estimate in a power-grabby attempt to divine the actual will of the people.
Naaah. Screw it. Let the totals speak for themselves. And let’s move on to today’s polling in the “Activists” bracket.
So here are your winners: John “Rielle trouble” Edwards, Barack “Present” Obama, and Al “We’re All Gonna Die™” Gore all won by convincing landslides.
And in the UK regional, Bono was edged — on St. Patrick’s Day! — by Prince Charles “Fly Me to the Climate-Change Protest” Mountbatten-Windsor. When he sobers up, we’ll let him down easy. Someone at a bar once informed me, straight-faced, that St. Patrick was the patron saint of Riverdance. Works for me.
So the next round is set: the President vs. the “climatologist,” and the Prince vs. the haircut. Sounds about right.
