President Obama Condemns AIG Bonuses Signed into Law by President Obama

barack_obama_smallAs the Oversneer told you earlier,  the President of the United States of America is very upset about the bonuses being handed out to AIG executives. But as much as I respect my friend and colleague, I can’t believe he’s falling for the same old fearmongering and politics-as-usual being used by Past Obama against Present Obama.

Perhaps the Oversneer has forgotten that on February 17, Past Obama signed a $787 billion stimulus bill, the immediate passage of which was absolutely necessary to save the entire country from impending doom. (Never mind, BTW.) And perhaps the Oversneer, along with Past Obama and Past Congress, didn’t bother to read the nearly 1,100-page document in the allotted time before it was voted on: a more than ample 16-17 hours. If my friend the Oversneer had done his homework, he’d know about the following amendment under Section 111, Executive Compensation and Corporate Governance:

(iii) The prohibition required under clause (i) shall not be construed to prohibit any bonus payment required to be paid pursuant to a written employment contract executed on or before February 11, 2009, as such valid employment contracts are determined by the Secretary or the designee of the Secretary.

Seems pretty clear-cut to me. Despite the smokescreen being put up by Past Obama, it’s obvious that he — along with Past Chris Dodd, who placed this amendment in the bill, and the many other Past Congressmen who voted for it — is trying to trick you into believing that Present Obama and friends are in some way responsible for these bonuses. Do you actually believe that their cries of outrage are anything less than heartfelt? If so, there’s a little country you may have heard of. It’s called Russia. Let me know if you need help packing.

Don’t be hoodwinked and/or bamboozled, folks. As a proud American, I understand that whatever the leader of our great nation says is 100% true at the time he’s saying it.

Cast your lot with Past Obama if you like, Mr. Oversneer. As for me: I’m voting Present.

Update: Present Obama strikes back at Past Obama, correctly noting: “The buck stops with me.” You hear that, Mr. Past? Your time has… well, you know. Take your faux moral outrage and your reflexive blame-shifting and hit the bricks!

Excuse me, but what does it have to do with Russia? In Russia, everyone knows that the so-called democracy is only a joke. And that they all have only one right – the right to bend over and take it. We, on the other hand, are yet to lose our illusions.

This reads like a bad bizarro superman comic – I love it!

Take that Past Obama! Present Obama condemns your shenanigans!

  4. 4 Kristine Mar 18th, 2009 at 5:37 pm

It’s almost like the latest Hollywood thriller that you find out at the end the person just has multiple personality disorder and has been fighting with themself the whole movie… only it’s costing me more.

  5. 5 Swede0319 Mar 18th, 2009 at 5:41 pm

I agree with Kristine, its either a bad Hollyweird movie or a S. King novel. Either way, I’m going broke just typing on the computer.

In Soviet Russia, Government cheats YOU!

    (oh wait)

Isn’t that whole “believing it when he says it” thing the same reasoning Clinton used?

  7. 7 Mockarena Mar 18th, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Brilliant commentary. Totally love it. We’ve been ripping on Obama, past and present, like crazy over at http://chicksontheright.com. It’s great to find another sensible, conservative blogger with a sense of humor!!

    LOVE IT!

  8. 8 Minnow Mar 18th, 2009 at 6:55 pm

    Huh.

So in “Nobody messes with Joe” was that Past, Present, Future, or Present Perfect Progressive Joe?

‘Cuz clearly there’s some messin’ being done and I want to know who’s on the case.

  9. 9 Simon Scowl Mar 18th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Nobody will have been messing with Joe.

  10. 10 Minnow Mar 18th, 2009 at 7:34 pm

Sorry Simon, without the teleprompter, it’s just not swoonworthy.

Hey azzholes, how could President Obama be accused of signing these bonuses into law when he wasnt president when they were signed while BUSH was president, fcukturds? If you recall, dumbazzes, back in september when the economy began tanking, and john mccain “SUSPENDED” his campaign so he could go “deal with the economic crisis” wasnt there a big to-do about signing off on TARP funds so the economy wouldnt go belly up before the new president could take command? And wasnt the first 700 billion signed off on? Bunch of morons.

  13. 13 Rocko Mar 18th, 2009 at 10:30 pm

On a serious note, this is the problem with the President putting himself out there and standing strongly on an issue before the other shoe drops. Past Presidents (Bush, Clinton) have mouthpieces who do the talking for them so that when the shizzle hits the fizzle they can be fired or resign so the President doesn’t look like he fell over while trying to tie his shoelaces.

  14. 14 Simon Scowl Mar 18th, 2009 at 11:06 pm

Your command of the language is admirable, friend, but your grasp of recent history leaves much to be desired. It’s 2009; hyperlinks really shouldn’t give you so much trouble.

  15. 15 Kristine Mar 18th, 2009 at 11:34 pm

*head hit desk* Oh dear, no wonder Obama got elected… somehow I’m guessing your comment stemmed from only reading the headline, Andso?

  16. 16 Les Paul Mar 18th, 2009 at 11:46 pm

Minnow, that would be the past pluperfect indicative subjunctive version.

  17. 17 Nati Mar 19th, 2009 at 2:27 am

    You tell them, Andso.

  18. 18 angry army wife Mar 19th, 2009 at 8:11 am

Oh, I am sorry. Bush signed this law into place? Really? Do you ever listen to the news or read a newspaper? Maybe you should read above where it says that the $787 BILLION “stimulus” bill was signed on February 17, 2009. I remember HEARING Dodd admitting to putting that clause for bonuses in the bill in February. Are you saying he lied? Oh no! They lied to us!!! Obama lied to us. What will we do? Well, seeing as everytime he opens his mouth he lies, we are in for a rough 4 years.

When will Obama stop blaming everyone but his current administration for the stuff he is doing wrong? Is Bush going to be now blamed for Obama canceling the press conference because he forced it to snow?

  19. 19 Habanada Mar 19th, 2009 at 9:10 am

Say what you like, but it’s really encouraging to know that our current president will always be looking out for us. I’m already getting warm fuzzies thinking about how Future Obama is going to soothe away all the tears caused by Present Obama. It’s nice having a messiah in the office.

  20. 20 D---- Mar 19th, 2009 at 9:15 am

I agree with angry army wife, it’s all Bush’s fault

oh and Mockarena – I don’t view this blog as conservative…Simon, Oversneer and Holly pick on hypocrites regardless of their political leaning

  21. 21 Aleric Mar 19th, 2009 at 9:24 am

No here’s a warm fussy something crawling up my ass. Watching Fox News last night and was informed that everyone at Merrill Lynch has recieved all their bonuses and pay raises as well. I work for Bank of America and we have had our bonuses canceled for the second year in a row and our raises frozen until further notice due to buying Merrill Lynch. I guess you need to be employed by a failing company to actually make money in this new economy.

  22. 22 angry army wife Mar 19th, 2009 at 9:55 am

    Aleric,
Damn, sorry to hear that. So much for ethics and integrity, huh?

And I agree, Deceiver points out all the hyprocrites. Is it really their fault that there seem to be more on the Democrat side than the Republican side? The fact that Obama and his whole administration is made up of hyprocrites and deceivers is not Deceiver.com’s fault. It just keeps them in business longer :)

Oh Les, quake me in my boots!

If I’d known that you were out there, I’d have saved my love for you.

  25. 25 Beige Mar 19th, 2009 at 10:37 am

Hee! Kristine, both your posts made me laugh, and I mean that in a GOOD way. Brilliant. Yeah, Andso exemplifies why the Holy Glowing Anointed Sacred Messiah Lick-Proof Owl-Flavored Chosen One made it all the way into the Oval Office. With articulate, rational discourse like that, you just KNOW we’re on the right path now.

  26. 26 Aleric Mar 19th, 2009 at 11:49 am

Wonder how long it will be before they start sacrificing cabinet members to appease the populous?

  27. 27 angry army wife Mar 19th, 2009 at 11:58 am

If they do that can Pelosi, Reid, Dodd and Kennedy all be the first to be sacrificed? Pretty please?

  28. 28 Kristine Mar 19th, 2009 at 12:16 pm

Glad to help, Beige :-D I can’t believe Andso hasn’t been back to defend his well thought out original argument.

  29. 29 angry army wife Mar 19th, 2009 at 1:20 pm

He will be back on here after he gets done writing his speeches for Obama

  30. 30 Minnow Mar 19th, 2009 at 4:46 pm

I’m still waiting for ScottF to read Andso’s post.

Oh to be a fly on that wall.

  31. 31 Beige Mar 19th, 2009 at 5:16 pm

Eh, ScottF strikes me as way too much weapon for that sad little fight.

  32. 32 Nati Mar 19th, 2009 at 5:49 pm

Lol, they now imposing a 90% tax on bonuses…Just like I said. Obama giveth and Obama taketh away.

  33. 33 Kristine Mar 19th, 2009 at 10:33 pm

If it weren’t my bed time, I’d do a little more digging about the handful of ways the congress is breaking the Constitution by passing that… perhaps the senate will have some sense.

  34. 34 Nati Mar 20th, 2009 at 1:13 am

That was some swift gov’t action, though. 1, 2..reposess. I wouldn’t be surprised if the senate passes the bill, too. Wouldn’t be the first time they pass something unconstitutional. *coughs* the patriot act *coughs*

  35. 35 Nati Mar 20th, 2009 at 1:38 am
