THE SNARK SIXTEEN: “Politico” Deceiver Madness

politicos-header

I know what you’re thinking. How in the hell did the top four seeds advance? No upsets? No Cinderella stories? Did George Mason University teach us nothing last year?

Well, all I can say is: (1) you chose the winners, (2) the East and South regions of the basketball tourney this year also went 1-2-3-4, and (3) I guess my co-bloggers and I were just really, really good at predicting what our readers will do. (Except for that pesky #9 seed Dr. Phil, in the “Douchebags” bracket. He threw us off.)

To review the tournament résumés of these fine, upstanding leaders well-dressed punchlines, just click on these pictures:

gore -vs- obama

princecharles -vs- edwards

deceivermadnesslogo091

It comes down to this: Only one of these four political hypocrites will advance to the Final Phony Four.

Will Al Gore make it one step closer, or will it be Barack Obama?

And can the toffee-headed Man-Who-Would-Be-King-By-Now-If-Mummy-Were-On-The-NHS sneak past the impeccably coiffed John Edwards?

We set ‘em up. You knock ‘em down.

Please note: This bracket was originally an equal-opportunity political bash-fest. Norm Coleman didn’t make it. Larry “tap, tap” Craig faltered early. And Sarah Palin was ousted in the last round, you betcha.

These polls will be open for 48 hours, and updated Brackets will be posted on Wednesday.

REMINDER: We’re giving away more prizes this week. Leave a comment below (with a valid e-mail address) telling everyone how you voted and why, and you could win some cool stuff. And you can always click here for the most up-to-date brackets.

Because I want to see a global warming hypocrisy showdown, it has to be Al and Charles.

  2. 2 Chronic Malanga Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:11 am

Al Gore: While Obama has yet to expose us to four more years of hypocrisy and lies, Al Gore is too strong a competitor here. His global warming BS and not so very green lifestyle for the win.

John Edwards: He isn’t inbred so far as we know, and people actually listened to him. He’s a bigger douche, a bigger hypocrite, and Prince Charles is just a misguided alarmist that everyone can see through. Have you heard that his detox junk was called out by advertising watchdogs and doctors for basically being useless and potentiall harmful? No one takes him seriously, not even here in England. Most people would rather see his son on the throne next.

  3. 3 Herandar Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:17 am

Because this is Deceiver, I fully expect John Edwards to be the Overall winner.

  4. 4 jenn Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:26 am

Obama – hour by hour he is damaging this country. He is dangerous like Gore but accelerated.
Edwards – as Chronic pointed out Charles is a misguided alarmist who few seem to take seriously. Edwards is a lying, smarmy, hypocritical cheat.

  5. 5 Beige Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:30 am

Obama, because he stands to screw us over much more wretchedly than Gore is currently able to do. Edwards, for the same reason listed above. Prince Charles is a ludicrous and pitiful figure. Well, so is Edwards, but he’s been more aggressive about it.

  6. 6 Toubrouk Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:35 am

Al Gore got my vote only due to his unaccountability. I bet that, six months in the future, I will regret this vote.

Prince Charles sponsors quackery. Yes, hypocrisy is wrong but a bodycount due to faith in bogus medicine is worse.

  7. 7 Chuwah Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:37 am

Sorry, but gotta go with Gore and Edwards here.

  8. 8 Habanada Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:46 am

Obama–everyone knows his hypocrisy is more intense and more dangerous to us all than Al “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE” Gore. What’s a little global warming hysteria compared to the blatant hypocrisy that got this uber-idiot in office?

Edwards. Because, well, you know. And stuff. I hate Charles, but if I’m honest, Edwards’ hypocrisy has him beat by miles.

  9. 9 CO of Fort Housewife Mar 23rd, 2009 at 10:00 am

Al Gore (whilst fun to laugh at for his erroneous doomsday predictions) really has no bearing on my day to day life. On the other hand, President Obama is also a partaker of the Global Warming Kool-ade, and he can and probably will pass ridiculous legislation mandating how warm I can keep my house in the winter. But he can grow orchids in the Oval Office. Obama got my vote.

Between Charles and Edwards, there is no question. Edwards all the way. Anyone who is boinking an obscure lunatic while his wife is battling cancer should suffer the same fate as if he was boinking Pamela Anderson, itchy rashness and all.

  10. 10 The Irish Mar 23rd, 2009 at 10:41 am

Such a close match! I’m on the edge of my seat until the final buzzer!

Recent Late Night developments have caused me to believe that Obama is carrying on the proud traditions of many presidents before him. He has my vote.

Edwards has mine as well. If he wins it all I think the hypocrite of the year trophy will fit nicely next to his father of the year award.

  11. 11 D---- Mar 23rd, 2009 at 10:57 am

Gore – he is the real cause of global warming..um I mean climate change

Charles – I think Edwards days as someone with influence are done (but I could be wrong)

  12. 12 Elle Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:00 am

Had to go with Obama and Edwards

It was close between Al and the Big O though. I was gonna go with Al “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE” Gore, but his is a one note hypocrisy. Obama is a multi-faceted hypocrite

Edwards: Well he’s just a special case of narcissistic hypocrite.

  13. 13 Fortunate_Son Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:15 am

I think the lid may blow off the John Edwards scandal at the beginning of June.

Word on the street is that Edwards’ babymama Rielle Hunter is getting VERY restless, and Elizabeth Edwards book will not be kind, painting her as a celebrity bed hopper.

  14. 14 Fortunate_Son Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:16 am

You know Johnnyboy is waking up every morning saying to himself “I can’t believe that woman is in my life! Aghhhhhhhhhhhh!”

  15. 15 Swede0319 Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:26 am

Al and Chuck. They have done more damage and blatant B.S. than anybody. Plus, I want to kick them both right in the NUTS!

  16. 16 Beige Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:37 am

“(P)ainting her as a celebrity bed hopper”…you mean, the way Ted Bundy was “painted” as a killer?

  17. 17 Kristine Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:55 am

I had to go with Obama. While I despise Gore and all of his uber-hypocritical ways, I don’t even believe global warming or climate change or “omg, WEATHER!” is happening so I don’t care how much carbon he dumps into the atmosphere (okay, within reason… I’m all for taking care of the planet for the sake of taking care of the planet). However, has not brought hope, change, or unity and is in fact doing everything he can to do the opposite.

And I went for Edwards. While the prince bugs me, Edwards’ values hypocrisy bothers me more.

  18. 18 PJ Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:58 am

John Edwards. I saw the picture of Rielle’s baby. It’s the spitting image of him!

  19. 19 Kristine Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:58 am

Uh hum, that post was missing an “Obama” after however. He is so holy in my mind, I can’t even write his name.

  20. 20 Beige Mar 23rd, 2009 at 12:14 pm

Y’all, while I TOTALLY buy that the kid is Edwards’, I can’t run with the idea that because she has blue eyes and a round face, she’s automatically his kid. I mean, there’s plenty of conclusive evidence–not least his admission. Why cite characteristics typical of 95% of Caucasian babies? This isn’t meant to pick on anyone, just to say something that’s been bugging me.

  21. 21 Pastafarian Mar 23rd, 2009 at 12:23 pm

    AL AL AL!!!

    Chuck too!

  22. 22 Queen Bee Mar 23rd, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Gore: Bush has a more environmentally friendly home than the environmental crusader. It isn’t as if Gore is so poor he can’t afford upgrades so he can walk the talk.
    Edwards: Just a douche.

  23. 23 Jrod Mar 23rd, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    I got Gore and Edwards…

And nothing to hit this week…sigh

  24. 24 Rocco Lore Mar 23rd, 2009 at 12:50 pm

Uh-Oh-Bama the hypocrite for something recent: That media award that was closed off to the media.

Prince Charles has been a jerk longer than Edwards.

  25. 25 Fred Savage Mar 23rd, 2009 at 12:51 pm

Obama all the way. He is possibly the only person capable of making Bush look competent. Not a day seems to pass without him becoming a hypocrite on a new issue.

Gore is nothing in comparison. At least he stays with one piece of hypocrisy. Obama piles it on while his supporters remain blind.

  26. 26 Les Paul Mar 23rd, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Seasoned Ex-VP Gore – POTUS Obama is still a rookie.

Ex-Senator Edwards – I’m starting to believe the theory that Prince Charming does have some genetic problems, therefore not culpable.

  27. 27 angry army wife Mar 23rd, 2009 at 1:06 pm

Obama because he is in office now and in the first 60 days, he has done more damage to this country than anyone before him. His whole administration is full of everything but hope and change. He can do more damage to us than Gore. Gore is just full of hot air while Obama actually has the power to do something.

Edwards – I do not like Chuck but Edwards is just plain creepy, annoying and plain dumb!

  28. 28 Menace Mar 23rd, 2009 at 1:11 pm

Obama and Edwards. Though I won’t cry if Gore wins, as that was a tough choice. Making an Inconvenient Truth opera almost pushed it over the top for me, but at least I can ignore Gore. It’s a lot harder to ignore the POTUS.

  29. 29 Marc Mar 23rd, 2009 at 1:16 pm

I really believe that Al deserves to go to the final four, along with his former running mate John-boy.

It was really hard not to vote for Obama…well, not really, I have had practice not voting for him…and since NO ONE has ever voted for Charles where it matters….it just made sense.

  30. 30 Trina Mar 23rd, 2009 at 1:17 pm

Um … aren’t politicians, by very definition, hypocritical? Yoo much trying to please everyone all the time and failing miserably.

That being said, I won’t vote for Obama here because we haven’t seen enough of his two-facedness. He just started his presidential term and most of the garbage he’s dealing with is inherited from the biggest hypocrite of them all – the President that Shall Not Be Named. Plus, call me a naive idealist, I still have HOPE and BELIEVE IN CHANGE.

But hit me up next year, you know.

  31. 31 Tengu Mar 23rd, 2009 at 1:26 pm

I’m hoping Al Gore makes it to the finals. Edwards vs. The Prince, I just went with Edwards since he’s been more worthy of headlines.

  32. 32 Minnow Mar 23rd, 2009 at 1:32 pm

Hurricane Gore vs. Pretty Boy John

And I want ringside seats so I can catch a flying tooth.

  33. 33 Les Paul Mar 23rd, 2009 at 2:11 pm

From Trina: That being said, I won’t vote for Obama here because we haven’t seen enough of his two-facedness.

Exactly – he may have a growing list of things to complain about, but he hasn’t surpassed Gore just yet. But don’t worry ! Wait’ll he gets warmed up !! He’ll be a shoe-in next year.

  34. 34 Beige Mar 23rd, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Hee. “I still have HOPE and BELIEVE IN CHANGE.”

You will believe…a President can fly.

(If you weren’t old enough to see movies in the theater in the mid-to-late 80s, that won’t make sense. It may not make sense, anyway.)

  35. 35 Beige Mar 23rd, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Oh, geez. I hadn’t really looked at the photos of the contenders above, until just now. They each seem to be making their horrible, horrendous O faces. Especially Gore.

    That will haunt me forever.

  36. 36 Eve Mar 23rd, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Obama and Chuck… the ones who will yet do more damage. I’d lay good money down on the fact that the careers of J.Ed and Gore are essentially over.

  37. 37 Koka Mar 23rd, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Al………..whose carbon footprint is larger than most small cities. All that hot air coming out of his mouth counts as carbon, doesn’t it??

Edwards………….atleast Chuck can blame it on centuries of inbreeding.

  38. 38 California Dave Mar 23rd, 2009 at 2:35 pm

Obama – but as the first person to nominate Al Gore for this contest, I must say it was an extremely close call. I’ll be happy with whoever advances.

Edwards – Chuckie is (evidently) known around the world as an idiot. Edwards The Politician started out with the “two Americas” and moved on to “two women”.

  39. 39 Ani Mar 23rd, 2009 at 3:00 pm

I’ve pitched it as Al Gore vs John Edwards in the “Thank God THESE bozo’s never made President”

  40. 40 kbug61 Mar 23rd, 2009 at 3:44 pm

I went Al Gore because unlike some of your readers/commentators, I am keeping my hope alive. After all, saving the world takes longer than 62 days. Prince Twit beats out the Pretty Boy just because I can’t figure out why anyone cares what the Twit has to say, so anything he does is hypocrisy to me.

  41. 41 angry army wife Mar 23rd, 2009 at 4:01 pm

We have not seen enough of Obama’s two facedness? REally? Have you not been paying attention at all to the news? He did not inherite what he just created. I have yet to see any hope or change out of Obama and I do not expect to see anything but hot air and lies these next 4 years.

  42. 42 k80 Mar 23rd, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Obama-his administration instructs Dodd to include language in the omnibus bill that specifically protects bonus money contractually obligated to employees of bailed-out companies, and then fuels the hysteria when the news hits about those very bonuses. That’s pretty dammed two faced, if you ask me.

    Edwards-because he’s a local boy and I just can’t stand him.

  43. 43 Saro Mar 23rd, 2009 at 4:23 pm

Gore and Edwards – pretty simple vote here for me. I think an Obama win is too premature, whereas these two princes have been around for a while. No on the real royalty because does anyone actually pay attention to what Charles does/says?

  44. 44 LN Mar 23rd, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Obama because he speaks out of both side of his mouth, on both sides of his face.

Edwards..well there is nothing that hasn’t already been said that didn’t cover all the reasons.

  45. 45 C-C Mar 23rd, 2009 at 6:20 pm

I went underdog Obama this time. I just thought his double talk needed a bit of a “never forget” touch from my heart. :p

Edwards all the way. The story of his “love affair” is still ongoing for Xenu’s sake.

  46. 46 Scott F. Mar 23rd, 2009 at 6:47 pm

Obama and Edwards – anyone who frequents this site knows why I hate them, so there’s no point in rehashing it here.

  47. 47 Meg B. Mar 23rd, 2009 at 7:10 pm

Obama and Charles. I love voting for the underdog.

  48. 48 randomstalker Mar 23rd, 2009 at 7:34 pm

I voted AlGore and John Edwards. Because the other two must have more minions and I’m scared of what they might do to me. Long live Obama and the Prince! Yeah, I’m real brave.

  49. 49 Nati Mar 23rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Obama and Edwards. Because Obama’s hypocrisy and (recently revealed) bigotry have a bigger impact and are liable to cause more damage than anything that Gore might do. And because Edwards is a bigger (and a local) douche. Looks like Obama is loosing though…I was sure it was gonna go down between Obama and PeTA in the end. Oh well…

  50. 50 That person Mar 23rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm

Prince Gore for teh win! Or the lose. Or something.

Also, and only because it’s making my eye twitch, it’s Cinderella.

  51. 51 Matt Mar 23rd, 2009 at 9:25 pm

I had to go with B.O. due to the conveniently placed landmine in the AIG bonuses, and P.C. because of him doing such a swell job of minimizing his carbon footprint.

Funny how the initials work out, huh?

  52. 52 Loop the Lup Mar 23rd, 2009 at 10:25 pm

The big A vs. President B.O.: Al Gore’s climate-specific rampage just can’t compete with Obama’s all-purpose hypocrisy. Let’s face it, Obama is a Swiss Army hypocrite.

Eddie vs. Charlie: I stand my ground from before. Prince Charles seems like his hypocrisy is based more on him trying to be relevant, while Edwards is just … skeezy.

  53. 53 Rocko Mar 23rd, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Gore over Obama. Edwards over Charles. It’s only fitting that after making it so far that 1 and 2 face off. One of these two is the DoY. I’d vote for either one over PeTA any day and twice on Sunday.

  54. 54 AllyKat Mar 23rd, 2009 at 10:47 pm

It was a wrenching decision, but I finally went with Gore over Obama. Experience trumps oration for once. Edwards over Charles, easy. Edwards tried (tries?) to be deceitful, I don’t get that vibe so much from Charles. Cluelessness maybe, but not so much on the dishonesty.

  55. 55 JasonM Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:06 pm

Obama. He’s going to be Hypocrite of the Decade at his rate.

John Edwards, easily. Any moralistic BS he’s ever said was pure, sweet hypocrisy. LOVE CHILD!

  56. 56 k Mar 23rd, 2009 at 11:55 pm

Obama Ha’Mashiah: Because I’m still waiting for everything to get all better.

Edwards: Because while Bonky Prince Charlie is annoying and doesn’t practice as he preaches, at least he didn’t pull an Edwards. And then there’s that whole love child thing…Edwards’, not Charles’.

  57. 57 muppet2171 Mar 24th, 2009 at 1:08 am

    I voted…granted, totally randomly just for fun…But I went for Gore & Edwards…but that’s just me.

  58. 58 katie Mar 24th, 2009 at 1:53 am

al gore and john edwards.. john should be deceiver of the year!

  59. 59 Nick Mar 24th, 2009 at 3:07 am

Gore vs. Obama. That was a surprisingly difficult choice. I went with Gore eventually because he is an activist for basically one issue now, Global Warming. As such he has no excuse for his house. Obama can at least blame Congress and politics for his hypocrisies.

And I went with Prince Charles easily. While I dislike Edwards for his actions, he doesn’t stack up to Charles.

  60. 60 luscious_t Mar 24th, 2009 at 7:39 am

As somebody who has busted ass in school since being a single-digit age… who has 3 BS majors and is nearing the completion of her Masters… who has studied the sciences, completed several research projects, and been required to take more stats classes than really needed for her career goals — and has to actually pay* for the hundreds of thousands of dollars of education herself… well, all I can say is that the ill-use and manipulation of statistics really gets my goat. Al Gore is more than guilty of this in his fake documentary and speaking engagements. Let me just put out there the golden rule of stats: CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION!!! On top of this, he has the audacity to not live a green life himself. UGH!!!

Lest there be any confusion, I voted for Gore – in the Deceiver poll just now.

Oh, and my other vote went to Edwards, because knocking up your New Age whore while your much-beloved wife fights cancer is just plain shitty.

*well, let’s see how much you actually get back, Sallie Mae -Mwahahaha! ;)

  61. 61 Beige Mar 24th, 2009 at 8:45 am

@Loop the Lup: “Obama is a Swiss Army hypocrite”. HA HA HA HA!!! That was awesome.

  62. 62 Carlo Mar 24th, 2009 at 10:33 am

For the record, George Mason’s run was two years ago. Last year it was Davidson.

Trina’s cognitive dissonance notwithstanding, I went with The One and Chuckie. Hopenchange is the only one who can beat Al, and Edwards is a lightweight compared to Chuck.

  63. 63 Sophie Mar 24th, 2009 at 11:55 am

Sadly, Obama and Charles took my votes. Prince Charles because I’ve never liked him and once those photos of him hitting his dogs were out, I liked him even less. Obama because he sold himself as this perfectly moral boyscout politician, but I’m seeing more and more how he’s just like everyone else. I’m just disappointed he’s not who he said he is.

  64. 64 Jill Mar 24th, 2009 at 3:02 pm

BO, because he’s a load of… um, hot air (typical politician, I guess) but still POTUS, while Gore is a has-been who never made it that far

Edwards because Prince Charles is still less (barely, though) relevant to anything

  65. 65 Nancy H Mar 24th, 2009 at 8:46 pm

As much as people going on about how WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE FROM GLOBAL WARMING! annoys me (which is why Gore’s got my vote!), Edwards takes my vote here. You gotta say something about the man who is able to go on and cheat on his wife, pay the baby mama to be quiet with a nice home, and no one but the Enquirer (and Deceiver!) decides to post the story in their archives until much later. :) That, I think, beats out the Green Prince.

  66. 66 mydailylist Mar 24th, 2009 at 9:27 pm

It’s probably not fair to include politicians in this event. If they weren’t hypocrites, they wouldn’t be doing their jobs. Sort of like blaming a $5 hooker for having hepatitis.

  67. 67 RaraAvis Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:19 am

I’m still sticking with the Prez, and PP only did what his ancestory entitled him to do (in his own mind, at least). So that meant Gore by default. But Edwards is a truly rotten human being who sanctimoniously cheated and lied. I foresee him in the Final Four.

  68. 68 sasa Jul 1st, 2009 at 10:41 pm

    oooooooooooooooooooooooooo……….Shut up u all!!!!!!!!!!!
why don’t u all just go to the badroom and washed ur ass
