THE SNARK SIXTEEN: “Activist” Deceiver Madness

activists-header

Ho hum … another perfectly predictable textbook clash of the top four seeds. No Arizona Wildcats to muck with the natural order of things. Borrrrrrr-innnnnng!

But come on! Did you really want the Snark Sixteen to exclude PETA and its massive dead-puppy parlor? Did anyone doubt that Heather “Hoppity” Mills or Pam “Fur, No! Leather, Yes!” Anderson would be here? And could we really have expected anything less from the sensitive social-marketing gurus who turned Dove soap into a laughingstock?

This is Deceiver Madness at its finest, folks. Phony public figures misrepresenting themselves as self-sacrificing activists are our bread and butter. I can’t imagine how you’re going to eliminate any of these professional pretenders from the competition. But only two of the four faux fanatics pictured below can advance to the Artificial Eight.

To review the tournament résumés of these plastic protesters, click on their photos:

peta -vs- anderson

dove -vs- mills

deceivermadnesslogo091

Can Pam Anderson and her closet full of dead cows put a dent in the animal-liberation mother ship? Or will PETA and its trail of dog and cat carcasses out-class its most recognizable fem-bot?

Could Dove’s 1/4-moisturizing-cream, 3/4-bullshiz formula set a new standard for subtle marketing deception? Or will Heather Mills fly off on her broom, summon Voldemort You-Know-Who to kick Unilever’s ass, and then claim that she’s a misunderstood kindly do-gooder?

Anything could happen.

These polls will be open for 48 hours, and updated Brackets will be posted on Wednesday.

REMINDER: We’re giving away more prizes this week. Leave a comment below (with a valid e-mail address) telling everyone how you voted and why, and you could win some cool stuff. And you can always click here for the most up-to-date brackets.

PETA and Mills, for sheer volume.

  2. 2 Chronic Malanga Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:13 am

PETA: Pamela Anderson is but a small part of that big machine, so I went for the vote that encompassed them all.

Dove: Tough choice, and I hate that I didn’t get a chance to vote for Skippy, but the Dove campaign really sets my teeth on edge.

  3. 3 Jenn Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:21 am

PETA and Mills. PETA is responsible for so many of these people being deceivers. Mills Burger King contract tipped the scale in her favour

  4. 4 luscious_t Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:33 am

    PETA
    - in reality, they are probably the biggest hypocrites covered here. Their whole position and its execution run completely counter to one another.

    Unilver/Dove
    - this is my first vote for them but having been reminded of the whole skin-lightening crapola… I just think they are much worse offenders than a divorcee who still gets unwarranted press

  5. 5 Toubrouk Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:34 am

Between the Master and the Minion, I think the Master should be considered. My vote goes for PeTA.

Mills also got my vote, because I just can’t stand her.

  6. 6 HJay Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:38 am

PETA and Ms. Mills got my votes

  7. 7 Marc Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:39 am

Just remember, if it weren’t for PETA, Pam would just be another loud mouth sperm receptacle for Tommy….and Mills is just a POS…

  8. 8 Trina Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:46 am

Let’s not forget Heather Mills lovely display of gratitude when she promised charity money (large sums too) and never made good on the offer. Digusting.

  9. 9 Chuwah Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:49 am

PeTA- Without them, Mills and Pam probably wouldn’t even be on here.
Unilever/Dove- Ah, the woes of being a multibrand company.

  10. 10 angry army wife Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:57 am

PETA because they like Pam Anderson. Mills because she is a PETA Spokesperson as well, oh, and loves Burger King now.

  11. 11 k Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:00 am

PeTA: Because as vile as Pamela Anderson is, I’m sure she doesn’t have any dead animals in a freezer somewhere.

Unilever/Dove: Because nobody listens to Heather Mills.

  12. 12 Habanada Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:06 am

I voted Mills and PeTA, because even if I don’t care about PeTA, Chronic is right in that Anderson is just part of the whole. I picked Mills because my brain never really processed that whole Dove thing.

I hope PeTA doesn’t win Deceiver of the Year, because that would suck and be so boring. *sigh*

  13. 13 Elle Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:38 am

    PeTA and Mills

Pam still can’t top PeTA’s dumping dog carcasses behind the dumpster at the Piggy Wiggly

And Mills is a awful person. Unilever just got caught with a stupid ad campaign.

  14. 14 lastdance Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:50 am

PETA and Mills for body of work. (Whereas Pam and Dove are better known for work on their bodies.)

  15. 15 Jill Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:52 am

PeTA, Heather Mills – for all the reasons that got them in this tourney

  16. 16 Swede0319 Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:54 am

Peta and Mills. Just because I want to schedule a Minute Man III strike on them.

  17. 17 k80 Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:56 am

PETA-Pam is just a shill getting used by them, and Dove, because they do a lot more damage than heather mills. She is an awful person, to be sure, but who really cares about her?

  18. 18 D---- Mar 25th, 2009 at 11:09 am

PeTA because they make Deceiver go round and round

Dove, nothing says natural beauty like photoshop

  19. 19 JasonM Mar 25th, 2009 at 11:21 am

PETA kills animals. More than any real grassroots rescue organizations could dream of.

Heather Mills is 3/4 of a bitch. I can’t blame her wooden leg for anything; it didn’t have a choice.

  20. 20 Runolfr Mar 25th, 2009 at 11:26 am

I voted for the bimbos because I hate to promote huge, faceless corporations and idiotic activist movements.

  21. 21 Les Paul Mar 25th, 2009 at 11:29 am

PeTA: so many people I know think this is a great organization until I inform them a little. Sure, we can agree on some of their talking points, but overall, they have been great at Deceiving…on purpose. Pam’s just doing whatever Pam feels like.

H Mills: I think she has more visibility, and therefore more Deceiver potential than ULove.

  22. 22 Jrod Mar 25th, 2009 at 12:06 pm

I went with PETA. They are a puppy dumpster while Pam is just a cum dumpster. I am surprised it is that close…I was expecting blow out…Lurkers? Explain yourselves!!!

In a surprise Twist, I went with Mills again…ok, not really a surprise.

  23. 23 Matt Mar 25th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

PETA & Mills. Peta is the man behind the curtain for so many here, but Mills puts a face to the hypocrisy.

  24. 24 LN Mar 25th, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Peggy and Peta. Because Peta has set a really high bar for everyone else to stoop too, and Peg Leg because she complained about not having enough money to pay first class for her daughters plane ticket.

  25. 25 Beige Mar 25th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

“3/4 of a bitch” is priceless. I may explode from its very awesomeness. For real.

  26. 26 kbug61 Mar 25th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

These were the easiest choices for me . . . Peta & Mills. I excused Pam because she’s such a hot tranny mess and surely no one really takes her seriously. I just don’t get Mills.

  27. 27 X Mar 25th, 2009 at 12:55 pm

    Peta & Mills. Easy.

  28. 28 Eve Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:06 pm

Peta and Mills. I can’t believe both aren’t winning by landslides!

  29. 29 Meg B. Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:08 pm

PETA – Pam is just their stupid blond bitch.

Mills – Where is all the promised money for the landmind vitims?

  30. 30 Minnow Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:19 pm

    Pam & Heather.

Pam because as stupid as PeTA is, Pam happily signed up with ‘em.

Heather? Because she’s just so darn likeable.

  31. 31 Menace Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:30 pm

I was almost tempted to vote for Pam, seeing that she hasn’t a chance, but PETA and all their cronies are far more annoying. Like at VegFest, some veggie freak said my brother wasn’t a real vegetarian because he was handing out fake meat samples. Little did they know that he was really a carnivore suckered into helping out…

And Heather Mills, because she won’t go away and I hate her newest hairstyle. A lot.

  32. 32 California Dave Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:51 pm

PeTA and Mills. A one-two punch (see what I did there?).

I treat my cat better than PeTA treats animals.

  33. 33 LurkingWoman Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:54 pm

I voted for Heather Mills. She must be one of the most hideous, vile women on the planet. Do you notice how bizarre her facial expressions always look? What she makes her face do in EVERY SINGLE PHOTO ever taken of her make her really ugly, it reveals an ugly soul.

  34. 34 Queen Bee Mar 25th, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Pam can’t even compete with PETA.
Heather is one of the most heinous people on the face of the planet. My personal favorite? When she promised some poor Russian woman that she would get her a fancy new prothsetic then reneged on the deal.

  35. 35 ganzagwenie Mar 25th, 2009 at 2:06 pm

    PETA and Mills.

I’m telling you, Mills is going to take this whole thing.

  36. 36 PJ Mar 25th, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Heather vs Pam, I can hardly wait!!!

  37. 37 Ani Mar 25th, 2009 at 3:26 pm

    Peta…speaks for itself.

I still go with Dove/Unilever because of their hogwash commercials on self-esteem and skin lightening.

  38. 38 Rocco Lore Mar 25th, 2009 at 3:40 pm

PETA for supporting Pamela Anderson. Dove for their “true beauty” BS.

  39. 39 Anonymous Mar 25th, 2009 at 4:02 pm

I’m taking PETA all the way to the bank, though I think it’s battle with Heather Mills will be epic next week. (btw, does she use an actual broomstick or just her prosthetic leg to fly?)

  40. 40 Lynn Mar 25th, 2009 at 5:06 pm

PETA and Heather Mills got my votes!

  41. 41 Rocko Mar 25th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

I voted to see a matchup akin to MTV’s Celebrity DeathMatch. So Pam and Heather. Hmm, sounds like the name of one of those female empowerment buddy flicks.

  42. 42 invyzible Mar 25th, 2009 at 7:45 pm

I’m going totally mainstream here and voting PETA and Mills. I do think Unilever needs to reconsider that Dove ad campaign, but I feel like being a hypocrite is practically part of Heather Mills’ identity.

BTW, does anyone else feel really bad for her little daughter?

  43. 43 Beige Mar 25th, 2009 at 7:52 pm

@invyzible–I feel bad for anyone who’s ever crossed Mills’ path, or will do so. She’s pretty clearly evil, wearing evil, and washing with evil soap. Like a big evil thing with evil knobs on.

  44. 44 Sophie Mar 25th, 2009 at 8:14 pm

I loathe and detest PETA, who in my opinion are the biggest hypocrites ever. The waste money on stupid things like “don’t wear leather!” and “dont eat meat!” in order to protect foxes and cows but they kill the animals that are sitting right in front of them. Jerks.

Heather Mills because her divorce was the height of crassness. I hate the fact that it made her famous.

  45. 45 Kristine Mar 25th, 2009 at 8:21 pm

*gasp* I almost forgot to vote… PETA and Mills, all the way. Faux meat hamburgers for everyone!

  46. 46 Nati Mar 25th, 2009 at 8:25 pm

PeTA – but I don’t doubt that Pam could take them (all)

Heather Mills – she’s so lame

  47. 47 Saro Mar 25th, 2009 at 8:59 pm

PeTA and their spokesbitch for me.

  48. 48 That person Mar 25th, 2009 at 9:41 pm

PeTA Mills. It has a nice ring, like TomKat or Bennifer.

  49. 49 Queen Bee Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

I admit to trying to tilt the tables:
    http://www.dlisted.com/taxonomy/term/34
This is from dlisted, Heather Mill’s greatest hits. She really is awful.

  50. 50 AllyKat Mar 25th, 2009 at 10:10 pm

PETA and Mills: can’t beat ethically treating animals by killing them, and while I expect corporations to be hypocritical, I really didn’t think another Beatle “wife” could irritate me as much as Yoko. Until Mills…

  51. 51 Chris Mar 25th, 2009 at 11:19 pm

Simon, you bastard! How could you put Pam against PETA?! I was so excited to vote for both of them!

Anyway, I got over it. I voted for PETA, those heartless animal killers and Pam’s programmers, and also for Unilever/Dove.

  52. 52 muppet2171 Mar 26th, 2009 at 1:17 am

    PETA & Peg-leg. ’nuff said.

  53. 53 randomstalker Mar 26th, 2009 at 1:32 am

I voted for PETA and Unilever / Dove. Because they’re organizations/corporations and therefore have more hypocrites involved.

  54. 54 Simon Scowl Mar 26th, 2009 at 2:37 am

Simon, you bastard! How could you put Pam against PETA?!

That’s the democratic process at work!

  55. 55 Loop the Lup Mar 26th, 2009 at 4:42 am

PETA because they’re the ones giving Pamela most of the reason to be a hypocrite. Without the one, the other practically vanishes.

Mills because I don’t want both of the victors being big corporations. I’m just weird that way.

  56. 56 Carlo Mar 26th, 2009 at 10:50 am

I’m surprised the puppy killing company doesn’t have 90% right now. I think if you were laying odds on Peta, they’d clearly be the chalk to win it all.

I had a tough choice in the second bracket but went with Unilever over Uniped.

  57. 57 katie Mar 26th, 2009 at 7:27 pm

PETA — because they are not ethical in the least. and heather mills, because shes just a twat.
