Deceiver Madness: THE PHONY FOUR

phonyfourbracket

Can you believe that it’s come down to this?

Now that you’ve chosen your Phony Four, I can tell you a little secret. I was only 1-for-4 in predicting the bracket champions before this tourney started. My personal “phony four” picks were PETA, Tom Cruise, John Edwards, and Jeremy Piven.

Shows you how much I know. But these are your remaining contenders, folks. Two #1 seeds survived, along with Gwyneth GOOPy-goop and His Douchiness the Queen of Hilton.

So now you have your marching orders. For the first time, we’ll be pitting a starlet against a politician and an activist group against a total douchebag. Worlds are about to collide, and when the dust settles next Monday night, we’ll have our Deceiver Madness champion!

Your four survivors, and a recap of their “Road to the Phony Four” résumés:

Vote early, don’t vote often (sorry…), and don’t forget to leave a comment for a prize entry!

===============================

DECEIVER MADNESS (Phony Four): Who's the bigger hypocrite?

  • Al Gore (politicos) (56%)
  • Gwyneth Paltrow (stars & starlets) (44%)

Loading ... Loading ...

===============================

DECEIVER MADNESS (Phony Four): Who's the bigger hypocrite?

  • People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (activists) (62%)
  • Perez Hilton (douchebags) (38%)

Loading ... Loading ...

===============================

These polls will be open until tomorrow when the clock strikes 8pm in Hollywood (that’s more than 36 hours of voting). Updated Brackets will be posted by Friday morning.

The final “Deceiver of the Year” poll will open on Friday, with results determined on until the evening of April 6 when the NCAA basketball championship game tips off. The final winner will be announced the following morning with a trophy presentation in Hollywood — which we fully expect the Hypocrite of the Year to attend, dammit!

    Wow…still tied?

    Paltrow & Peta were my choices… :-)

  2. 2 Chronic Malanga Apr 1st, 2009 at 10:28 am

Gore and PETA. Eco-warrior without a clue and puppy killers beat out GOOP and hated douchebag for me.

  3. 3 k80 Apr 1st, 2009 at 10:29 am

Tied? How can that be? Gore and Peta for me.

  4. 4 TheIrish Apr 1st, 2009 at 10:31 am

Al Gore and PETA. I just wish that PETA was an environmentalist group. That way, they would whine a lot while actually killing 95% of people like Al Gore.

  5. 5 bigmama Apr 1st, 2009 at 10:39 am

Gore because unfortunately he somehow has power over people’s lives and PETA because they kill animals.

  6. 6 Swede0319 Apr 1st, 2009 at 10:49 am

    What CM said.

  7. 7 Anonymous Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:00 am

PETA has to win now that it’s been revealed they upped their killing of animals they “liberate” to 95% in 2008. Go PETA!

  8. 8 angry army wife Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:03 am

Gore and PETA. Anyone who likes to tell me how to live and gets rich off of doing so but then avoids his own advice wins. PETA just cause they are Cruel to animals. So much for better treatment of animals you douches!

  9. 9 Tal Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:08 am

PETA v. Perez Hilton is a tough one. I went with PETA because Perez Hilton hasn’t killed any animals…that we know of.

I voted for Al Gore on the other one. Wow, “I voted for Al Gore” aren’t words I ever thought I’d type…

  10. 10 Pastafarian Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:10 am

You all must be insane. Al and Gwyneth are almost tied? Don’t make me come back there!

  11. 11 Beige Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:18 am

Gore and PETA, for the same reasons CM stated above. And also because my hate for them burns so hot, it can roast whole chickens.

    MMMMMMMM, juicy, succulent roast chicken.

  12. 12 SC Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:19 am

How can Gwyneth be in the lead???? So she’s a big hypocrite because she preaches veganism and advertises meat on her healthy eating website, it’s STILL healthy recipes! If you eat it, you won’t die! Gore’s hypocrisy is more likely to cause harm (environmentally and financially) and have global leaders involved than Gwyn.

  13. 13 Trina Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:19 am

I don’t understand how GOOPie is pulling ahead of Gore. Which is worse – someone out of touch with regular people who attempts to give them suggestions on how to live a “better” life or a bloated ex-politician who thinks that you, me and the rest of the unwashed masses can change the planet one hybrid and flourescent lightbulb at a time, but doesn’t believe HE has to change his lifestyle. Gore should take it all, hands down.

  14. 14 jenn Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:28 am

Gore and PETA get my votes. Though all these a$$hats take themselves very seriously, these two can do some real damage.

  15. 15 angry army wife Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:28 am

I too am confused how Gore is losing. Come on, he reeks of hypocracy. And I agree. The words “I voted for Al Gore” are ones I never thought I would type, say, etc. I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

Beige, what is better than nice, juicy chicken? Tender roast beef. Yum! Time for lunch!

  16. 16 Elle Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:32 am

Gore and PeTA. Gwyneth and Perez would go away if we just ignored them long enough. Gore would smash my light bulbs and PETA would kill my pets if I tried to ignore them.

  17. 17 Andrew Fisher Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:36 am

I’m amazed that Gore is trailing Paltrow… her petty missteps are no match for Gore declaring that we are all going to die horribly until we declare him the eco-Christ…

Paltrow and Hilton’s hypocrisy only hurt themselves. Al Gore and PETA’s hypocrisy hurt everybody

  18. 18 Justin Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:49 am

    Gore and PETA…

How either got into a position of power i will never know.

  19. 19 Carlo Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:51 am

Like others, I’m astonished by the results in the early polling, and I quite frankly don’t know how GOOP got this far to begin with. She’s the George Mason of this tournament.

Gore vs. Peta in an epic showdown. But that would negate the “Hollywood, beware” tagline in the bracket.

  20. 20 The Oversneer Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:04 pm

I can verify that the voting is genuine. Maybe Gore’s staffers and other assorted acolytes are flooding us. But nobody is stuffing the ballot box with repeat votes.

  21. 21 angry army wife Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:17 pm

I would hate to see any more “hanging chads” with Gore around.

  22. 22 KW Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:20 pm

Peta v. Gore for sure…how the hell do I decide between the two for Hypocrite of the Year????

  23. 23 Kristine Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:21 pm

Gore and PeTA. I will not be sorry if Paltrow wins, though. That was probably my toughest vote yet. However, Gore is far more distructive and is actually influencing American policy that is going to send us down the crapper because of the myth of global warming.

  24. 24 X Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:21 pm

PETA and Paltrow… the end is near

  25. 25 Nick Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:26 pm

    Gore and PETA.

  26. 26 LN Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:32 pm

No way I couldn’t vote for Gore. Oopps maybe I didn’t mean to vote for him. Also had to vote for Mario.

  27. 27 heather Apr 1st, 2009 at 12:57 pm

This was tough! I hated having to choose PETA over PEREZ, but it had to be done… if only I could have chosen both. In the end, I think I’ll be happy with whoever wins. They all deserve the title! Congrats deceivers!

  28. 28 Queen Bee Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:05 pm

Again, this is just emotion for me, but I have to go with Gwyneth. I don’t think she will win, in the end, but man, her holier than though, sanctimonious “Some people just aren’t ready to be enlightened,” shizz makes me want to stalk her and smack the smug smirk off her entitled face.
Went with Perez because I figure he is the douchiest douche in all of the douche world and he could use the votes to make a good showing against the eventual winner, PETA.

  29. 29 D---- Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:09 pm

    It’s gonna be PeTA/Gore head-to-head…oh the humanity!

  30. 30 Timm Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Al Gore – he is a part of the party that is a sad alternative to the hypocrisy of the “right.”
Perez Hilton – because his site doesn’t give away prizes that people can actually use.

  31. 31 Tengu Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:23 pm

Gore and Perez got my vote. Gore for all the global warming hypocrisy that he embodies. I went with Perez just for the longshot.

  32. 32 Jrod Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:27 pm

I can’t believe Paltrow even made it this far…Its like she is the George Mason of this bracket (if george mason was a 3 seed and not a 10). Seriously, she is a flaky actress…1 in a million, that one!

  33. 33 Menace Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Gorebot and Peta. Though I’m still sulking over the loss of Edwards and the Golddigger.

  34. 34 Richard Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:35 pm

    Gore and PETA…no contest!

  35. 35 Rocky Lore Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Gore over PETA with Gore taking it all.

  36. 36 California Dave Apr 1st, 2009 at 1:57 pm

    Gore and PeTa.

It’s been fun, gang. I hereby nominate Octomom for next year’s brackets.

  37. 37 Runolfr Apr 1st, 2009 at 2:00 pm

I supposed this was destined to come down to Al “We’re all going to cook to death” Gore and People for the Execution and Termination of Animals; why rock the boat?

  38. 38 gcb Apr 1st, 2009 at 2:04 pm

I had to vote for Gore (as someone else said, now there’s a set of words I never thought I’d utter), just because his hot air is likely the single largest contributor to any “global warming” we might be experiencing as a planet.

And PETA, because I hadn’t realized until recently that their name actually stood for “People Exterminating Thousands of Animals”

  39. 39 Vagrant Dog Apr 1st, 2009 at 2:09 pm

    POLITICO VS. STARLET
Gore: The choices are easy this round. The guy who makes a living telling others to do what he doesn’t gets my vote.
    ACTIVIST VS. DOUCHEBAG
PeTA: I’ve decided to form my own activist organization. It’s called People for the Ethical Treatment of PeTA, and if anyone hands us a PeTA to watch over we will immediately euthanize it and then ask Pam Anderson to take off her clothes if others do the same.

  40. 40 luscious_t Apr 1st, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I voted for Gore & PETA because it’s about being the biggest hypocrite.

Were it a contest for people I loathe – GOOPy and Gossip Boy would’ve won, hands down.

  41. 41 Tracie Apr 1st, 2009 at 2:45 pm

PETA’s going to whip Perez. I just hope he doesn’t enjoy it too much.

  42. 42 CO of Fort Housewife Apr 1st, 2009 at 3:07 pm

Gore and PETA. And whoever nominated Octomom for next year’s brackets, I second it.

  43. 43 Beige Apr 1st, 2009 at 3:16 pm

CO, I’m fervently hoping that by this time next year, Octomom will have been eaten alive by cockroaches. Or CPS. Either one will do.

  44. 44 angry army wife Apr 1st, 2009 at 3:21 pm

Octomom for 2010!! I agree. This whole “I hate publicity crap” last week is now turing into “I want a reality show” crap this week. Alas, I must settle on this year’s brackets as she entered in too late.

  45. 45 Toubrouk Apr 1st, 2009 at 3:40 pm

    Gore and PeTA, hands down.

I think there’s something amazingly wrong having Paltrow in the PHONY FOUR. So many people made more damage then her INCLUDING Tom Cruise. There’s something fishy here…

  46. 46 wickedorchid Apr 1st, 2009 at 3:43 pm

    Gwennie for hands down certain.

I hope that you have an actual trophy to sned to them. If you don’t, I can scart scouring yard sales for you.

    Let me know

    xoxo

  47. 47 Ani Apr 1st, 2009 at 4:12 pm

I picked Al Gore and Peta.

  48. 48 Pastafarian Apr 1st, 2009 at 4:19 pm

I want to go to the presentation! Oh but it’s in Hollywood. Well I guess you guys’ll have to move. Chicago’s weather is nice for the next two months. And bring me a tux would you? Oh and a drink!

  49. 49 Nati Apr 1st, 2009 at 4:24 pm

I voted for Paltrow and PeTA. But looks like I was right when I had said that Gore could win this whole thing.

  50. 50 Nivek Apr 1st, 2009 at 4:29 pm

    ManBearPig & puppy-killers……I’m super serial.

  51. 51 Eve Apr 1st, 2009 at 5:46 pm

Gore & PETA. Though I want PETA to take it all, I couldn’t throw miss GOOP in the ring with them. She’d be way out-classed.

  52. 52 Rocko Apr 1st, 2009 at 5:51 pm

There is some serious Paltrow hate going on here. I can’t believe she made it this far. I am astonished. I mean did she go over to some of the voter’s houses and personally piss in their Cheerios? And now that I look at it, I think she’s a pretty high seed or maybe it’s just a weak bracket. Or maybe I have a weak grasp on her hypocrisy.

Anyway I voted for Al Gore and PeTA since they’ve had this date with each other since the beginning.

  53. 53 Marc Apr 1st, 2009 at 6:05 pm

These are actually the 2 I predicted would be here in the end….Algore vs. PETA…(or as I like to refer to them as, PITA…pains in the ass…).

Even a Goop encrusted Paltrow or a pink haired douchebag, (who I am sure is also somehow encrusted with another type of goop)could beat these 2 out for the top nods….

  54. 54 Malicious Lingerer Apr 1st, 2009 at 6:52 pm

Ugh, Gwyneth Paltrow deserves the deceiver prize more than Al Gore. Although Al Gore’s “stop global warming, fly to conferences miles away” attitude is annoying and hypocritical, he can’t beat Paltrow’s condescending attitude to us the little people.
At least Al Gore has stimulated SOME positive change, even if its opaqued by his hypocritical meanderings.

  55. 55 ErgoDyne Apr 1st, 2009 at 7:28 pm

    Gore and PETA.

  56. 56 LurkingWoman Apr 1st, 2009 at 7:51 pm

It pisses me off that Gwyneth Paltrow made it this far (as horrid as she is) and not Tom Cruise.

  57. 57 ganzagwenie Apr 1st, 2009 at 9:02 pm

paltrow and peta … gotta go for the alliteration

  58. 58 Saro Apr 1st, 2009 at 9:45 pm

PeTA because it’s hard not to, and Gywnnie, because she’s been my underdog through the tournament.

But I hate all of the Phony Four, so it’s really a no-lose for me.

  59. 59 Meg B. Apr 1st, 2009 at 10:31 pm

PETA and Gore. Wow, I didnt think I’d ever be voting for Al Gore.

  60. 60 Nebraskats Apr 1st, 2009 at 10:57 pm

I predict an Al Gore vs peta final that will be decided in 47 overtimes on a blown (hot air) call!

  61. 61 randomstalker Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:24 pm

I voted for Gwyneth Paltrow and PeTA. Paltrow because I’m not convinced by the attitude I see around here sometimes when Al Gore is concerned, though I agree that he’s a huge hypocrite. And then PeTA because, well, Perez is really annoying, but PeTA KILLS ANIMALS.

  62. 62 AllyKat Apr 1st, 2009 at 11:37 pm

Gore and PETA. Idiot lying hypocrite and animal killing haters.

  63. 63 That person Apr 2nd, 2009 at 1:15 am

I went with OMG! WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!, so PeTA’s corollary of, “OMG! THEN WE HAVE TO KILL PUPPIES!!” is at least not a non sequiter.

  64. 64 invyzible Apr 2nd, 2009 at 2:53 am

I was confused at first as to how the voting was so close, until halfway through the comments I started seeing some from people who had voted differently.

I went with Gore and PETA, like most of the people commenting.

  65. 65 k Apr 2nd, 2009 at 3:39 am

Algore: Because he reaches more people than Gwyneth, and more people take him seriously. Gwyneth is pretty much universally regarded as a joke, while Algore actually has those willing to believe him. Oh yeah, and that Styrofoam glacier thing just totally pushed it over the edge.

PeTA: Because while I think it is totally ludicrous that Perez allegedly has ghostwriters now (srsly) to do his scribbling and his YOU MUST READ THIS!!!!!!!! inanities, dead puppies and kittens trumps a smarmy fat-on-the-inside egotistical windbag any day.

    i gets priez nao?

  66. 66 Fortunate Son Apr 2nd, 2009 at 7:11 am

Like Obama, who voted ‘present’ on legislation in the Illinois Senate 130 different times, I voted ‘present’ one of the final contests…

Both HerPez and P3+a are attention-based organisms that will die if we collectively ignore them, which is my preference.

Al Gore vs Gwynnie is a much more difficult vote to cast.

In the end, Al Gore is effective in his hypocritical message propagation, despite the fact-based debunking his pseudoscience has widely received.

Gwynnie is considered fzghdf feeble minded even by other notable Hollywood Squishybrains.

  67. 67 Fortunate Son Apr 2nd, 2009 at 7:13 am

^^^ If you shift your fingers one key towards the leading edge of your keyboard, the word ‘rather’, appears as ‘fzghdf’. Apologies to Gwynneth Squishbrain. ^^^

  68. 68 AmyJ Apr 2nd, 2009 at 7:16 am

I voted for Gwennie and PETA, wouldnt it be great if they went head to head in the final 2?

  69. 69 Fortunate Son Apr 2nd, 2009 at 7:23 am

    Just scanned the comments.

Loved Wickedorchid’s offer to provide yard sale trophies for the winners.

Don’t forget to wrap them in oily parchemnt paper and use this return address for maximum media impact:

  70. 70 Matt (the other one) Apr 2nd, 2009 at 8:50 am

Gotta go with the big machers here – Planet AlGor and PETA. . . both are spade trumps here

  71. 71 Jill Apr 2nd, 2009 at 9:17 am

Gore and PeTA – seems almost obvious.

  72. 72 Mia Apr 2nd, 2009 at 9:46 am

Gore and PETA… Gore for scaring the crap out of my kids with his global warming schtick; and PETA for scaring the crap out of my kids with their “your mommy kills animals” schtick.

  73. 73 Chuwah Apr 2nd, 2009 at 9:53 am

Gore and PeTA. Sorry it’s so predictable, but they deserve it.

  74. 74 Les Paul Apr 2nd, 2009 at 11:12 am

    Go Big Red

  75. 75 jenn Apr 2nd, 2009 at 12:16 pm

Just watched this youtube video via Moonbattery.
If anyone has any doubts about voting for Gore in the next round watch this…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw5WdmuGSfM&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.moonbattery.com%2F&feature=player_embedded

  76. 76 Minnow Apr 2nd, 2009 at 1:16 pm

    Gore and PeTA for me.

My only worry is that PeTA will try to euthanize Albert in the final round.

  77. 77 HJay Apr 2nd, 2009 at 1:51 pm

Mr Gore and PETA, although that would make the final round exceedingly difficult for me.

  78. 78 Anni Apr 2nd, 2009 at 2:14 pm

PETA and Gore. Gore is an embarrassment and PETA doesn’t need any explanation.

  79. 79 Christine Apr 2nd, 2009 at 2:15 pm

    Gwynnie and Perezel.

  80. 80 Jenn Apr 2nd, 2009 at 4:19 pm

    This is fun.

  81. 81 Anni Apr 2nd, 2009 at 8:26 pm
