Sometimes there’s karmic justice in the world.
I read in Us Weekly yesterday that former Grey’s Anatomy actor Isaiah Washington has been evicted from his $20,000-a-month rental in Venice Beach for skipping out on rent for the last five months:
In unlawful detainer papers filed on March 24, the actor’s former landlord claims Washington is five months behind in rental payments totaling to $100,000. Washington and his wife Jenisa were recently served with a “3-day notice to pay rent or quit”, which basically means they have to evacuate the premises if they do not make the payments up.
The property in question is worth nearly three and a half million dollars and carries a hefty $20,000 a month rental fee. Washington’s original lease agreement, which started in April of 2008, included an option to buy.
Apparently this isn’t the first time he’s had some serious money troubles, either. He’s been chased down by collections for unpaid medical bills, credit card debt, broken contracts, and back taxes over the past 11 years. And considering his lease on the Venice house only started last April, maybe he should have considered his complete lack of money management skills before agreeing to such an astronomical rent.
Not coincidentally, five months ago Isaiah Washington was last heard begging Grey’s Anatomy to bring his character back, because he’s all reformed from gay-hating on his co-stars I guess. Chalk that up to “things worth considering before you have an on-set psychotic break,” followed by “why you shouldn’t blame your former employer for how crappy your life is after you’ve been fired for cause.” Obviously it couldn’t possibly be his own fault.
All things considered, he should probably rank pretty highly on this list.

Up next on Dancing with the Stars, doing doing his version of the “Creditor Duck and Run”, Isaiah Washington. **Scattered Applause**
Anyone wanna bet that DWTS will be his next and only gig? Except for maybe a Lifetime movie.
Wow, I can’t imagine paying that much in rent!! I guess neither can he…
I smell a bailout coming…actors are vital to the American economy and can’t be allowed to fail.
yeah really, he’ll be up next on DWTS!
That’s kind of of a stretch, calling Isaiah an “actor” isn’t?
Actually, I liked him on Grey’s Anatomy and I didn’t mind the content of his outburst even though I am one of those naughty liberals. Isaiah has a nasty reputation of blowing up and lashing out at co-workers. At this point, he has no career because because he is so difficult to work with. It’s really too bad.
OMG, how racist.
Except, the exact opposite of that. Loser.
I’m not one to defend celebrities, unless they’re hot girl celebrities and they happen to read this (I’m looking at you Kate Beckinsale/Jennifer Aniston), but should someone really lose everything just because he called someone a bad name? It just seems a little excessive to me.
I see it as a domino effect, Pasta. Using the slur cost him his job. His horrible attitude in the wake of his losing his job caused his career to nosedive. And being an out-of-work actor who took on a house he couldn’t afford is what caused him to be evicted. He bears responsibility for the mess he’s in, not that he sees it that way.
“In October 2006, news reports surfaced that Washington had grabbed co-star Patrick Dempsey by the throat after Dempsey began screaming unprovoked into Washington’s face. It was reported that the altercation was prompted by or related to Washington’s use of a derogatory epithet toward co-star T. R. Knight and his sexuality.”
Another co-star had this to say:
“And MADELINE McGRAY, who starred alongside Washington in the acclaimed play FENCES, reveals it’s not the first time he has got heated with his co-stars. She says, “Isaiah’s not anti-gay, he’s a hothead. It’s that his anger leads him to say and do things he wishes he hadn’t – to everybody. He’s always had a lack of control over his temper. “I worked with Isaiah, and there were some difficulties. He lost his temper and had a physical altercation with one of the other male actors backstage. The actor missed his cue a couple of times, and Isaiah couldn’t control himself.”
Would you like working with someone like that? I know I wouldn’t. And he isn’t talented enough to escape his bad attitude.
No employer wants to keep an employee around that has such terrible anger management issues. It can get soomeone killed eventually.
Anybody that mad at the world needs to find a deserted island somewhere and live all by their little selves.
Mel Gibson may have one for sale here soon.
Now hold on, this could still work out for him. He just needs to channel that rage. I mean, Samuel L. Jackson’s career is basically built on him having explosive outbursts; he just does it while the cameras are rolling. That’s what Isaiah needs to do- he needs to get a job where blowing your top is not only condoned, but expected. Ooh! Like professional wrestling!
I’m with Pasta on this one, honestly. I don’t think that this outburst of his would have ever made it off the set if he hadn’t said what he had and chosen his words more carefully. Don’t get me wrong, I hate homophobes and do think that what he said was out of line, but this is just one of those things that the media turned into a worse situation for all involved.
Anyway, shame that his lack of judgement put him in this position, but that’s what happens when you tick off the Gay Mafia.
Actually, the hubub about him attempting to choke Patrick Dempsey and calling T.R. a “faggot” was dying down. Then, he went to the Golden Globes. When asked about the incident, Isaiah said it never happened. Which stirred up Katherine Heigl, the charmer, to say that Isaiah should just shut up. Then Isaiah played the race card,
“It didn’t help me that I was a black man who wasn’t a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time. I didn’t speak like I’d just left the plantation and that can be a problem for people sometime. I had a person in HR tell me after this thing played out that some people were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I’m a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn’t go around saying âYessah, massa sir’ and âNo sir, massa’ to everyone?”
For anyone keeping score at home, Shondra Rimes, the show’s creator, is black.
So, let’s recap:
Isaiah has a history as a hot head and has been aggressive towards others on different sets. He chokes a co-worker then calls another the “f” word. Then he denies it. Then he spins it. And, finally, when all hope is lost, he complains about racism. It’s funny how people react to violent men, isn’t it? He did not lose his job for calling someone the “f” word or for being a big, scary black man but because he is a violent jerk. And now, no one will hire him. Weird.
The questions beggs would the same results have happened if he would have a hetero whore?
“In October 2006, news reports surfaced that Washington had grabbed co-star Patrick Dempsey by the throat after DEMPSEY BEGAN SCREAMING UNPROVOKED into Washington’s face.”
I wouldn’t have grabbed him by the throat, I would have punched him. You know who seems like an even bigger dick? Christian Bale. Guess who’s got another big, expensive, stupid movie coming out. If I want to get rid of the “Caped Crusader” so I don’t have to listen to him grunt through another movie I should get him to call someone a f**.
Another has been. I agree with Pasta though. Christian Bale still rakes in the dough and he is an even bigger loser.
I could care less about Isaiah but I do find it offensive that his back rent is more than my house is worth. lol
I have to disagree with Pasta and AAW, Bale may be an ass but he know when to apologize and make amends, coupled with a good acting ability means he is star material. Most of the successes of his films are do to his chosing the right scripts and projects and then molding the to fit his personality. I doubt Isaiah has that much talent.
. . . because it’s so hypocritical to have non-politically-correct, unprofessional outbursts and then proceed not to pay your rent. “Domino effect” may be interesting, but deceptive? Not . . . not really . . . unless I’m missing something major here, which is possible, ’cause I refuse to watch Grey’s Stupidity.
(Yeah, yeah, Simon, I know, tips@deceiver.com, right? Too bad I get all my current events from this site already. *Sigh*)
Wow, I’ve never watched the show and had now idea who Isaiah Washington was until “F-Gate” went down, but then that was the last I heard about it. I was one of those people who was like, what’s the big deal? People say rude things all the time about other people. Maybe he should have insulted a Christian, then nobody would care.
But now that I’m hearing all these other crazy things about him, I’m appalled! Grabbing people by the throat (although the one time I met Patrick Dempsey, I wanted to choke him too…that guy is disgusting!), denying anything ever happened, living in a place and not paying for it, and refusing to take any responsibility by playing the race card instead?? What a jerk! I guess this goes way beyond using a “forbidden” word; I had no idea.
And I have to admit that I still love Christian Bale. The man has immense talent and has managed to stay out of scandals for his entire showbiz life, even after starting out as a child actor, until this recent bout of violent outbursts. My heart broke a little after hearing the tape of him yelling like crazy, but then I listened to his apology and I really did believe it. He totally took the blame for it and admitted that he deserved all the things people were making fun of him for now. I was very impressed that he didn’t try to blame it on someone else or get the sound guy in trouble for secretly recording the whole thing. He handled it very maturely, I think, so I think I can still love him with a clean conscience.
Wouldn’t you just love to sit in on the movie set of Christian Bale & Isaiah Washington doing a remake of In the Heat of the Night or maybe the Defiant Ones?
Heck, even Stir Crazy…
“Isaiah Washington Got His Homophobic Butt Evicted”
…and that’s a little unfair name-calling. I’m sure even the most tolerant, non-judgmental men have a homophobic BUTT.
Ding. Your 15 minutes is up. Douchebags like Isaiah and those two turdblossoms Twit and Twat need to move on so the rest of us who pay our taxes and bills can enjoy Chelsea Handler and Southpark bashing other up and coming has beens.
Queen Bee–That’s why I posted what I did. SUCH a turd, this guy.
[sarcasm]
But…but…he’s Isaiah Washington! He’s speh-shul! All of this is being DONE to him by gay-loving racists! NONE of this is his fault! What’s wrong with you people?? WAHHHHHHHHHH!!!
[/sarcasm]
Sorry, had to get that out of my system.
Ummm, how come Miss USA runner-up wasn’t called out on her s**t? It’s not even what she said about gay marriage, it’s how she blamed her losing the crown on that remark. Homophobic and hypocritical to boot.
not winning the crown *fixed*
Ummm, your assertion that it’s both does little to prove that it’s either.
Now, condemning a beauty pageant contestant for expressing the same opinion as the President of the United States, who gets a pass on it for some reason, there you might have a case.
“Ummm, how come Miss USA runner-up wasn’t called out on her s**t? It’s not even what she said about gay marriage, it’s how she blamed her losing the crown on that remark.”
That waste of a human existence Perez Hilton admitted to the media that the only reason she lost was because of her response to that question. Since he was one of THE JUDGES, I assume that makes it pretty official. I wonder what the response would have been if she’d lost because she supported gay marriage? Considering how the gay community responded in the wake of prop 8, I think a few flaming churches would have been on the menu.
I love that we live in a country where you can hold any opinion you wish, just so long as you don’t voice it if it’s considered ‘politically incorrect’.
I wasn’t condemning her for expressing her opinion, I understand that not everyone supports gay marriage and that everyone is entitled to their opinion and has a right to express it. I’m just saying that I didn’t like how she blamed her loss on what she had said about gay marriage. But I guess if Perez says that her response was indeed the reason she lost, then it must be true. After all, we all know how trustworthy Perez is.
Yeah, I figure Perez is a big blowhard who is reveling in the opportunity to think he wields real power. I love how he’s called her a c*nt and a bi*tch for speaking her mind about what she believes. Perez is all class.
And, Simon, how did you manage to make it about the President of the United States? And who says he gets a pass? The President of the United States is a bigot, his Special Olympics “joke” proves it. I simply don’t understand why anyone would be against gay marriage. I’m not saying that those who are against gay marriage are not supposed to express their views, but I just don’t understand it. If two people love each other and want to get married, why not let them? I’m not condemning Miss USA runner-up for her comment on gay marriage – it’s her opinion and she’s allowed to express it, but when she later said that her views on gay marriage were the reason she lost, I just thought that it was unfair. (I think she said it long before Perez did). Unfair to the gay community and to the pageant winner as well. And now she’s milking this whole situation for all it’s worth. So I just thought she was a sore loser and a hypocrite, and simply asked whether the story was deceiver-worthy.
Because he’s against gay marriage. As are the people of California, who voted to pass Proposition 8. And yet for some reason, a beauty pageant contestant has been chosen for this week’s Two Minute Hate because she expressed the same opinion when asked directly.
Your logic is unassailable. She’s a hypocrite for taking him at his word on an issue that obviously means more to him than his own dignity, as he makes a fool of himself in front of the world? Well, how could it possibly be otherwise.
I think she said in an interview that her response had cost her the crown before Perez even said anything. When she blamed her loss on her response, there was nothing to suggest that it was indeed what had caused her to lose. To me she came off as “whaa the gays have caused me to lose the pageant, I’m a martyr for traditional values, everyone feel sorry for me” in that interview.
And if other judges had admitted that her response was the only reason she lost, I would have sided with her. But Perez was the only one who said that and he would say anything for publicity and/or to create controversy, I don’t believe one word he’s saying. Aside from whatever Perez is saying, where’s the proof that she lost solely because of that remark?
I’m sure it had nothing to do with anything.
I’m just saying that I don’t think she had enough reason to say what she said (in her interview) when she said it.
And also, first she said that in her family they believe that the marriage should be between a man and a woman and that’s how she was raised. Now she’s saying that her sister is a gay rights activist and supports gay marriage. So…which one is it? I’m just saying that there’s quite a lot about this whole situation that doesn’t make sense to me.
Here’s another judge who voted against Prejean because of that answer. But I’m sure it doesn’t mean anything either.
PLEASE tell me we are not equating Miss California’s civil response to a direct question with Isaiah Washington’s screaming “Faggot” at someone. PLEASE tell me we’re not. Because we’d better not be.
Simon, I didn’t say it doesn’t mean anything. The thing is she had said that her remark had cost her the crown BEFORE any of the judges spoke out. I believe she was interviewed right after the pageant and that’s when she said “If it wasn’t for that question I would have won”. And I thought “How can she be so sure?”. She immediately blamed her loss on her answer, and only after that did Perez open his trap.
Beige, I wasn’t equating Isaiah’s slur with Carrie Prejean’s answer. To me, it’s not about her answer. I DO NOT have a problem with how she answered the question – once again, it’s her opinion and she’s allowed to express it. It’s what she said AFTER the pageant that bothered me. I don’t appreciate that she said “It’s about being biblically correct, not politically correct” and “God was testing me and my faith”. I happen to believe in God and I read the Bible, too, but I also happen to support gay marriage. Not because I’m striving to be “politically correct”, or “progressive” or “liberal” or however it’s labeled these days, but because I think it’s a shame that two people who love each other and care about each other and want to be together and want to get married can’t do so because of the government policies. And I also believe that God loves us all equally. And those who are yelling the loudest about freedom of speech and Carrie Prejean’s right to express her opinion seem to have no problem with our government dictating us who we can and cannot marry. Now it turns out that her mother supports gay marriage and gay rights as well. So much for “That’s how I was raised”. So I thought that the whole situation was odd. Something just isn’t right here. I’ve been reading about it on other sites, but nothing was nearly as well written or well put as Deceiver articles are, so I was simply wondering whether or not there was going to be a story about it on Deceiver, that’s all. Wasn’t comparing or equating.
wasn’t equating Isaiah’s slut to Carrie Prejean’s answer *fixed*
Nati – I think we all get the point you’re trying to make, we just really really don’t agree with it. Why exactly does it matter that she said it cost her the contest before (multiple now) judges said it was indeed why she lost? It would only matter if she was WRONG.
If a scientist guesses the outcome of an experiment before all the data is in he’s a genius, but if Ms Prejean figures it out before all the cards are on the table it’s a problem? I personally don’t give a damn either way when it comes to gay marriage, primarily because it doesn’t effect me. Frankly, and this may be the recent divorce talking, I wouldn’t wish marriage on my worst enemy.
But crap like this, the reactions to prop 8 passing, and the constant attacks on anyone who disagrees are NOT helping the movement. Anyone who doesn’t wholeheartedly support gay marriage is deemed a homophobic bigot. Back people into a corner like that and even those who are sitting on the fence will suddenly become strident opponents.
“And those who are yelling the loudest about freedom of speech and Carrie Prejean’s right to express her opinion seem to have no problem with our government dictating us who we can and cannot marry.”
Well, yeah – because our government in this country is specifically forbidden from interfering with lawful freedom of speech, but they have always been in charge of marriage laws. There is no logic gap there at all. That would be like trying to say that because the government can’t tell us what we can and can’t say, they can’t forbid murder. Just because they’re not allowed to interfere in one area, doesn’t preclude them from interfering in domains they have always been in charge of.
“the constant attacks on anyone who disagrees are NOT helping the movement.”
Scott, I agree with this part. I, for one, do not consider all those who don’t support gay marriage homophobes and bigots, but I know that there are people who do and yeah, that’s not helping. I think it’s really unfortunate that Perez had this opportunity to exploit this controversial, volatile and touchy subject to gain publicity for himself. Perez is the ultimate douche in this situation (and in general), I don’t believe for a second that he cares about gay rights, all he cares about is fame-whoring and self-promoting. He and people like him are not helping anything, they are only making it worth.
The government part, however, I don’t entirely agree with. I mean, I understand that the government has always been in charge of marriage laws, I just don’t understand WHY. I think that the marriage between two consenting adults should be a private matter.
As for Carrie Prejean, I simply didn’t like what she said after the pageant, so I thought I’d ask what other people think. Now I kinda think that may be it wasn’t the best idea, because this site is not for this, but this situation caught my attention and interest and I was wondering what other people had to say. If there was someone in real life I could (calmly and rationally) discuss it with, I would, but since that’s not the case, I asked about it here and yeah…*opens mouth, inserts foot*
Because it’s, like, hypocrisy. And stuff. How dare she state the obvious even before it was confirmed by those responsible?
So… she was right, but she shouldn’t have said so because she didn’t have sworn depositions. I’m glad you’re staying on top of this.
Actually, no, I’m not staying on top of this, Simon, that’s why I asked you. I didn’t know whether she was right or wrong when she first said it, and those things that she said about God and the Bible didn’t sit well with me either. I was (and still am) questioning her sincerity. And I also thought that may be Perez planned this whole thing from the beginning – he didn’t ask any other contestant this question, he asked her. She comes from a religious background, she attends a evangelical school, I think he knew she was going to say she didn’t support gay marriage, and that’s why he asked her that – to create controversy. So I asked a simple question, because I was wondering what you guys think. Why condescend to me like that? “Because it’s, like, hypocrisy. And stuff.” I don’t understand…I don’t believe I said anything to insult you or your blog, but if I did, I’m sorry. I was simply interested in your opinion. I always tried to be civil and wouldn’t dream of intentionally insulting the writers or other commenters. My comments may not be the most intelligent (or appropriate) ones, but I don’t think that I’m the most ignorant, vapid and rude person ever either.
My issue with this whole thing is how much of an ass Perez is being.
When I first saw the video of her answer posted, it seemed like it was going to be another installment of goofy pageant answers a la Miss Teen South Carolina’s like as such and so on answer from a few years. Miss California started off in that direction. Watching it, you could almost see the wheels turning in her head, trying to calculate who might be angrier with her response. Mid answer, she decided and history was written.
I don’t agree with her stand on gay marriage. And I agree with the reason the other judge’s blog you linked to and her reason for the answer being not so good. However, I really abhor how Perez Hilton has behaved himself in the aftermath. Perez seems to see this as his shot to moving to the next level of stardom (whatever that might be) so he is milking his indignation for all he thinks it is worth. If he were treating this woman with the tiniest bit of respect (We can agree to disagree) as opposed to calling her a c*nt and a b*tch, his message of tolerance might seem a little less hypocritical.
Just because you disagree with her doesn’t mean she doesn’t believe what she’s saying.
Why not try a little harder so I don’t have to?
Queen Bee, I agree, Perez is acting like a douche that he is. I am now convinced that he had planned this whole thing from the beggining. In his quest for publicity he only managed to further pit people against one another.
Prejean, OTOH, is hard for me to sympathize with. I misquoted her a bit in my previous posts, she didn’t just say “It cost me the crown”, she said “It cost me MY crown”. And she kept repeating that “MY crown” in every interview that followed. And I thought “It’s not YOUR crown, it’s Miss USA crown. I didn’t see ‘Carrie Prejean’ written on it.” and also “How very ungracious towards the winner”. To me, all that assuming and the sense of entitlement were extremely off-putting. Then she started referencing the Bible…I wonder if she interprets the rest of the Bible word for word as well or just a certain passage from the Book of Leviticus. That attempt at selective following the word of God always seemed hypocritical to me.
P.S. Teen South Carolina’s “like such as” response was hilarious. The question itself was kinda weird, too. “Why some Americans can’t find their own country on the map?” I don’t think it even called for a serious response…
Miss Teen South Carolina *fixed* ugh
Scott F: “I love that we live in a country where you can hold any opinion you wish, just so long as you don’t voice it if it’s considered ‘politically incorrect’.”
Sorry, but it was Bush who said you have no right to any opinion but his. That is what changed this country. If you voiced ANY disapproval or disagreement, you were anti-American and a traitor. Now, if you disagree with anything anyone says, that person must be wrong and a hypocrite. Sorry, but there is no law that says you have a right to NOT be offended by anyone. It seems that if anyone says anything that offends anyone, then the person saying it MUST be a horrible person just for having a different opinion!
Nati, you should just give up. Simon will continue to try to pound you into the ground for daring to disagree with him. It is a lose/lose situation because, no matter what you say, he is now going to take offense to it because he has determined that you are wrong, so no amount of explaining will ever overcome his decree.
If you’ve got some evidence that proves Prejean was wrong about her answer costing her the crown, or that it somehow matters that she didn’t have sworn statements in hand before daring to speak up about it, I’m sure we’d all be glad to hear it. Since you’re standing up so bravely, I mean.
Wow. That’s pretty amazing. Which gulag were you just released from, then?
Why are you telling us, instead of Perez Hilton?
Oh, sorry, there I go again, mocking people for making bold assertions with little or no evidence.
Yeah, I spent EIGHT YEARS listening to liberals scream and jump up and down about how stifled their dissent was. They were so stifled, you couldn’t hear construction equipment. And JJ, do you seriously not see that comments here are MODERATED, which means that if Simon, Oversneer and Holly really wanted to shut down Nati–or anyone else, for that matter, they’d simply refuse to approve her comments?
JJ, I’ve actually already forgotten about this…lol, it’s cool though, I was more amused by that whole pageant situation than anything…The look on Perez’s face when she answered his question was just priceless. lmao@him struggling to put a scornful expression on his face. And when later in his video he said “If she had won I would have snatched her tiara and run away with it” I laughed so hard I almost cried…oh, Mario…I’m starting to think he wanted that Miss USA tiara for himself. And how Prejean first tried to soften the blow – “my sister is a gay activist”, but then, after she had receieved all that support from people who are against gay marriage, she said “it was about being biblically correct for me”. I lol’d. Parading in that bikini in front of the whole world, doesn’t get any more biblically correct than that. I think it’s beyond hypocritical to use the Bible to back up one’s anti-gay marriage argument. You don’t interpret the rest of the Bible literally nor do you try to integrate anything else that’s in the Bible into your everyday life, do you? Why just that certain passage? I think it’s sad that when it comes to gay marriage, that certain passage from the Bible is immediately used as an argument against it…and as a last resort. Is that really the best people can do? Oh well, my heart didn’t break. Ms Prejean did break my bulls**t detector though.
Which part of the Bible does it contradict? I’m not that familiar with it myself, but it sounds like you know.
Which part of the Bible? Why, the Book of Leviticus, the one people usually refer to when they are looking to support their anti-gay marriage argument. The Book of Leviticus tells us that men lying with men and women with women is an abomination…just like it tells us that wearing a material woven of two different kinds of material is an abomination. Bikinis are usually made of a combination of nylon (or viscose) and spandex. But I’m sure all of her bikinis and pageant gowns and all of the clothes she has ever worn in her life were made of just one material…because it’s in the Bible. And she is, like, so biblically correct. And stuff.
OMG! You have torn the lid off this thing. Why aren’t you blogging about it?
Nati, you keep acting like there’s only one passage in the whole Bible that addresses homosexuality, and that people who use it don’t follow any other part of the Bible. I’m pretty sure Prejean and many others who oppose homosexual activities on a Biblical basis *do* follow the rest of the Bible to the best of their abilities. The book of Leviticus was a set of old laws meant only for the Jewish people, and a lot of it was made obsolete by the new rules God established through Jesus. God’s disapproval of sexual sin and specifically homosexuality is mentioned all throughout the Bible, even as late as the new testament, when speaking to non-Jews. It’s not just a selective little passage that people pull while ignoring everything else, nor is it contradicted anywhere in the Bible with a passage about “if it makes you feel good, then you have every right to be happy by doing whatever you want.”
I think everything Prejean said was sincere. She probably was raised that way and has always believed all the Bible passages on sexual sins, not just as a last resort and not just as selective following. Just because her sister grew up and made an adult decision on how she was going to handle the gay marriage issue doesn’t mean that they weren’t raised a certain way; so I don’t see how her sister’s current stance contradicts anything she said.
Sorry, I really didn’t want to get into this one, but I couldn’t let you go on thinking that Leviticus is the only place that addresses homosexuality, as you’ve said now several times.
Don’t you get it? Her bikini was probably a cotton-poly blend.
She turned me into a newt!
TP, I know the Book of Leviticus is not the only part of the Bible that denounces homosexuality. The point is, how much of the rest of the Bible are people trying to interpret literally and integrate into their lives? You interpret one part literally, interpret the rest literally, too, then. Selective beliefs don’t sit well with me and she didn’t strike me as sincere, so that’s that. *shrug* meh. The pageant is over, her 15 minuites are pretty much up, the story is played out.
Beige – I didn’t mean that the moderators would completely silence her opinions, just that no amount of explanation is going to work when someone has decided you are wrong and you try to correct their opinion.
I agree with Nati on the interpretations of the Bible. This is why I can’t stand religion. Everyone interprets the Bible differently, but you can’t just pick & choose the things you agree/disagree with. If you expect people to live by the “letter of the law”, then you should too — in every area of your life. Unfortunately, there are so many contradictions in the Bible that it would be impossible. And, I think there would be protests if men began stoning their wives in the town square for infidelity, or you were cutting off the right hand of anyone convicted of theft. We have become a much less barbaric society than the world held 2000 years ago. Many of the stories are based on fear and are human attempts to explain things that are beyond their comprehension. I would hope we have evolved further than that in the last 2000 years as well.
Misquoted Leviticus a bit, it doesn’t say anything about women at all, just men. But the only other passage I can think of right now (and I think that’s the one that is most referred to) is in the New Testament, to Romans. However, it has been argued (and I agree) that that passage denounces switching to homosexuality from heterosexuality, rather than homosexuality itself. And in the Gospel of Matthew Jesus forbids people to use slurs towards homosexuals.
Julie, I think you said it much better than I did – there are a lot of things that the Bible tells us to do and not to do, and you can’t just pick and choose. Either interpret literally everything that’s in the Bible, or none of it.
Awesome. Murder spree, here I come!
Then correct their opinion. Don’t whine about the presentation of evidence to the contrary.
