Marion Barry, Moral Politician Par Exemple? Snort.

Marion Barry TaxesMarion Barry, arguably the most corrupt mayor in municipal political history, claims his conscience prevents him from supporting a D.C. measure to recognize same-sex marriages performed outside the city? Sure, why not:

D.C. Councilman Marion Barry told church leaders and other opponents of gay marriage Tuesday that he opposed the city council’s decision to recognize same-sex marriages performed outside the District.

Calling himself “a politician who is moral,” Barry said he would have voted against the measure if he had been present at the April 6 session. The former mayor, who was convicted of cocaine possession in 1990 and has recently been investigated for not paying his taxes, was recovering earlier this month from a kidney transplant.

The cocaine possession is just the beginning of it.

As Cato points out, Marion Barry knows a thing or two about family values. Just consider the four wives (one of whom spent time in jail for embezzling federal funds from the city “jobs program” they created together), the subsequent four divorces, the countless affairs, the allegations of unwanted sexual advances, the six months he spent in jail after a federal conviction for crack use during his second shot as mayor, the years of unpaid taxes, and the fact that even after 29 years of having Marion Barry in office, allowing the gays the small comforts of legal marriage remains the least of D.C.’s problems.

(Thanks go to talented tipster Toby for the tidbit.)

I think Marion and the former mayor of Detroit should get together and swap stories of morality. And wasn’t Marion the one shown on TV caught in the hotel room with the chick? Me thinks he needs to keep his mouth shut.

    Maybe he is moral.

As in the moral of the story.

You know, like when the ant works hard all day and the grasshopper smokes crack down at the Motel 6 with Barry White blasting away on the boom box…

Man, I always loved that bedtime story!

Marion Barry deserves our respect. His tireless work to get crack off the streets, even if he had to smoke it himself, should not go unrecognized. Let’s all keep in mind, folks: Straight immorality = red-blooded American, apple-pie and A-okay; gay lifestyle = EEEEEEEEEEEvil. I’m not exactly a supporter of gay marriage myself, but until we hets get our act together, we’d best get to work sweeping our OWN porches clean.

    “Straight immorality = red-blooded American, apple-pie and A-okay”

    Yep, cause he’s a Democrat.

Minnow, you forgot the part in the story where in addition to smoking crack at the Motel 6, the grasshopper makes development deals with fat felines while pretending to care about the rest of the insects living in public anthills.

Actually AAW, Detroit would never stoop to putting a crackhead in the mayor’s office.

Our Mad Hatters get seats on city council.

Yep ladies and gentlemen, that fine specimen of pure crazyassedness is Council President Monica Conyers, beloved wife of upstanding U.S. Representative John Conyers (44 years in office, 5th in seniority in the Democrat House, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, founding member of the Black Congressional Caucus).

So the next time you see Conyers on CNBC yammering on about prosecuting Bush for war crimes, remember that he is his wife’s political mentor, and they’re both Section 8 material.

I fully support the idea that gay people should marry. But seriously, does it matter what he said? The moment he actually uses the word “moral” in a sentence was only made more comical by the fact that the word “politician” existed in the same sentence. But coming from a crack head piece of crap jackass that’s got the resilience of a post nuclear cockroach, it’s hard to even imagine that this wasn’t ripped off of The Onion. For a split second there, I really did wonder.

Some people are always going to see “moral” and “gay” as complete opposites :(

  11. 11 Jenn May 4th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Is he on crack or somethin’? How can he say he is moral? He is deluded.

Politicians fallen from grace always crack me up……like no one was going to pull up all his past antics and we’ll all be stupid and buy the story that he was set up.

And ya don’t need no pipe for that kind of crack….LOL
