Perez Hilton Puts the “Hippo” in “Hypocrite”

To recap: Perez Hilton, in his capacity as judge at this year’s Miss America USA (whatever) pageant, asked Miss California for her opinion about gay marriage. Then he got on his webcam and ranted and whined because he didn’t like her polite, honest answer. And now he doesn’t like that people are taking him at his word.

According to the Patterico’s Pontifications blog:

Perez Hilton is the latest thug to use a bogus copyright claim to get an embarrassing video removed from YouTube.

The video in question was produced by the National Organization for Marriage, a group that opposes gay marriage. The one-minute video shows a three-second clip of Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, calling Miss California Carrie Prejean a “dumb bitch.” According to copyright lawyer Ben Sheffner, the video has now been removed from YouTube…

I found the video elsewhere on YouTube, and I just uploaded the video to my own YouTube account:

YouTube Preview Image

It is clear that Hilton is embarrassed by what he said, and he is using a transparently frivolous copyright claim to try to squelch free speech about his ridiculous statements.

I’m not sure Hilton is actually embarrassed. He’s never shown a capacity for it. No, he’s doing this out of spite, because he doesn’t like the unintended consequences of his actions. He’s an emotionally stunted bully, and he can’t handle it when somebody pushes back. Even when it means denying someone else’s right to Fair Use, after he’s made a name for himself by ineptly scrawling genitalia on stolen photos of celebrities and, when sued for violating copyright, declaring it Fair Use.

But then, this is hardly Lard Boy’s first instance of jaw-dropping hypocrisy. Just ask Jonathan Jaxson and Diane Wargo.

Patterico says that if Perez/Mario/Baby Huey tries to make him take down that video, he’ll fight it and may even sue. Should be interesting to watch.

Not that NOM (which, incidentally, is the same sound Perez makes at the buffet table: “NOM, NOM, NOM”) has clean hands. It turns out that the group also issued a copyright violation notice recently after several of their videos were leaked onto Youtube. NOM had the videos taken down, but not before Rachel Maddow downloaded them and aired them on her show. Fortunately for NOM, The Rachel Maddow Show barely qualifies as a public forum.

No matter what you think about gay marriage, or about advocates of gay marriage whose awful behavior is giving the issue a bad name, one thing is clear: If you don’t want people you dislike to use a 3-second clip of you glaring into a webcam and calling someone a “dumb bitch,” then don’t get on your webcam and call someone a “dumb bitch.” Problem solved.

Update: Simon Owens talks to Brian Brown, executive director of NOM, about the takedown request.

Perez Hiton is an overrated douche. Simple.

  2. 2 chrocs May 4th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

And did you see Shanna Moakler screeching at the Larry King Show? I mean, these kooks are scaring sympathetic people away from their cause, but then, I could say the same of Stephen Baldwin. Why is it that they can’t find more moderate, articulate people to make the case for both sides?

  3. 3 angry army wife May 4th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

I went to his site a few weeks ago and saw that he posted someone’s full name and email address because he called him a nasty name. Let’s talk about fair. Didn’t he sue someone for doing the same to him? I stopped going by his site that day because he whines and complains and calls you a whore if you do not agree with him. Whatever happened to entertaining people? If you oppose gay marriage then you are stupid. If you do not like Michelle Obama then you are a jealous whore. However, if you agree with him then you are queen. Talk about hypocracy.

  4. 4 BigAssBass May 4th, 2009 at 3:13 pm

Perez who? But seriously, gay marriage proponents are their own worst enemy.

  5. 5 Trouble May 4th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

I thought Hilton was an “intellectual titan”.

  6. 6 Fartchecker May 4th, 2009 at 3:33 pm

It was the Miss USA pageant, not Miss America

  7. 7 Some Guy May 4th, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Intellectual Titans don’t waste their lives running celeb gossip sites. This drama queen is a complete waste of space.

  8. 8 alanstorm May 4th, 2009 at 4:20 pm

Hilton is an “intellectual titan”? Can’t be – an intellect is required for that.

Who is this twerp, anyway – Paris Hilton’s dumber sibling? Whining and crying just doesn’t have the same cachet after this clod’s 15 minutes.

  9. 9 snapnhiss May 4th, 2009 at 4:43 pm

This guy’s made a ton of money from his nasty little web site and various off-shoots from the ‘fame’ he made from it.

End of times, people… end of times.

“Why is it that they can’t find more moderate, articulate people to make the case for both sides?”

Because, as a movement, they settled on an easy divisive strategy… that attracts these people.

Re: people against it are anti gay and bigots… a lot like old racists who did something similar keeping blacks and whites from getting married. There is no legit other view on the subject.

The tougher (but high road) would have been to put forward positive arguments and examples. You know, show loving gay couples and just talk about how they want to be married. The religious people are still entitled to their view that marriage is a religious sacrament and the state should not get into redefining it… but anyway, the low road strategy is why we have bottom feeders like Perez ranting…

Just do it through the god damn legislative branch. Judges and their allies who make new rights out of thin air (AKA: Fu**ing the Constitution) are committing treason.

How do such stupid people manage to survive? It’s got to be dumb luck that someone hasn’t removed him from society before now. I’ve never been to his hateful website, and never will, simply because if you do not agree with him he thinks YOU should be taken out behind the barn and shot. No one has an rights, just he does, and he sets the whole gay marriage agenda back much farther than the ultra-conservatives do.

  13. 13 Dotar Sojat May 4th, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Perez, if you or your sycophants are listening, you’re a nonentity. You make nothing, you invent nothing, you produce nothing, you build nothing, you contribute nothing. Just another prissy little twit who cried during dodgeball.

  14. 14 LN May 4th, 2009 at 6:42 pm

I used to read Perez….that is how I found Deceiver. However, his behavior is that of a bully. Printing people home and work addresses and numbers on a blog because they said something mean and hateful…just as terrible as posting a video blog calling a woman something mean and hateful.

To say he is 30something and behaves like a teenager is appauling. I just hope more people get tired of his mindless bulling and stop going to his site.

And just a questions, when did he become a judge of beauty? Look at what he wears and does with this own appearance. Did anyone besides me question the validity of that man being a judge?

  15. 15 Catharine May 4th, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Good for you AAW! I quit looking at his site when he started quoting MLK on an almost daily basis to support gay rights. At least some of the asinine commenters on his site were criticizing that too.

  16. 16 Tal May 4th, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Here’s what I don’t get about Perez Hilton (besides “why is he such an overrated whiner”) – why would he go by “Perez Hilton” when Mario Lavandeira is such a great name? It sounds like it should belong to some dark, dashing silent film star or something like that. “Perez Hilton” is just dumb and derivative. “Wait, Paris Hilton did what? Oh, PEREZ Hilton…”

Perez Hilton is just an embarrassment to sane, polite, reasonable gay people. There should be a “Go Away Perez Hilton” song like that “Go Away Paris Hilton” one from a few years back.

  17. 17 Crow Jane May 4th, 2009 at 7:58 pm

A few years ago, I stated to a friend, that the LGBT community couldn’t have a worse spokesperson than Rosie O’Donnell. Apparently God set out of prove me wrong. If anyone is preventing me from walking down the aisle, it’s that fat bastard.

  18. 18 irememberwhen May 4th, 2009 at 8:17 pm

Perez Hilton is a creep.. Not only does he give gay marriage a bad name, he gives gays a bad name.

My gay neighbor is a great guy, first and foremost. His identity doesn’t revolve around being gay. And I think most gay people are the same as my neighbor.

Perez Hilton is not a good guy, gay or otherwise. Criticizing him as a human being, not a gay human being, is fair game.

  19. 19 KarlaKent May 4th, 2009 at 8:22 pm

You called him an emotionally stunted bully but somehow I read it as an emotionally stunted b****. Does seem like a bit of projection on his part, no?

  20. 20 barkingmad59 May 4th, 2009 at 9:58 pm

Just one caveat…Perez Hilton would be a hateful, rude little prat no matter what his size or where he fell on the Kinsey scale. I can’t believe people are actually generating a living for this purveyor of childish nastiness.

C’mon, folks, even if you’re visiting his site just to see what train wreck he’s instigated now, you’re still supporting him. Let him fail, and spend the rest of his life bitter and angry in the ugly low-end job he deserves.

  21. 21 winewife May 4th, 2009 at 11:40 pm

barkingmad59 you took the words out of my mouth..er, keyboard. I don’t look at the perez blog anymore because his content makes me vaguely sick to my stomach. And with the hope that in some small way my refusal to patronize his blog will lead to his failure. Hey, a girl can dream!

“It is clear that Hilton is embarrassed by what he said”

    Mario?! Embarrassed?! ahahahahahahahahahaha…pfffttt…ahahahahahahahaha

But seriously though, NOM scares me. Their ads are just so over the top (IMO). You’d think they are all being forced into gay mariages or having their rights revoked or something.

Here’s that Rachel Maddow video, if anyone cares to watch:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7NQ3QUP0Dc

  23. 23 Nati May 5th, 2009 at 12:44 am

I do go to Mario’s website every now and then though. I have a huge e-crush on one of the commenters there…Remember how Mario used to report that Fidel is dead? Now he has a commenter with Fidel’s avie and a screen name “No estoy muerto, pendejo”. I almost died when I first saw him (her?) post. The comments are funny, too. I’ve never been more grateful for having a really strong bladder.

  24. 24 Nati May 5th, 2009 at 1:33 am

In case Rachel Maddow video gets removed from youtube (again), you can watch it here:

  25. 25 Chronic Malanga May 5th, 2009 at 4:58 am

LMAO, Nati. I visit his site once in a while too, though over time, the visits are less frequent. In fact, when he was falsely reporting that Fidel was dead, I whipped out a letter to him that I knew would never be answered, but it made me feel better. But that’s about the time I went from not liking him very much to hating him with the whole of my black little soul. I don’t normally read comments on his site, though because they tend to be of very low caliber with the first ten posters just saying “FIRST” half the time. I am going to have to check out your crush, though because that’s just classic stuff.

I also hate that he has turned preachy about everything from smoking celebrities to “make a donation”, and that he kisses PETA’s pasty, meat deprived ass despite the fact that I know he’s enjoying the lechon, probably in more ways than one.

  26. 26 Jill May 5th, 2009 at 8:14 am

Honestly… I was completely unfamiliar with Perez Hilton until I started reading Deceiver. If I ever saw or heard the name, I probably assumed it was about Paris.

  27. 27 Beige May 5th, 2009 at 8:22 am

Dotar Sojat and Crow Jane said it perfectly. If the LGBT community that’s agitating for marriage really wants to make any headway, they need to stop letting Syndrome speak for them. Like, AT ALL.

  28. 28 katie May 5th, 2009 at 8:38 am

i am so sick of this guy. he’s sick and hanging onto losers like parasite hilton and twit and twat forever isn’t gonna work after a while. annoyingggg

  29. 29 Aleric May 5th, 2009 at 9:27 am

Some one with the clout needs to sue him out of existance for defamation of character and slander. When he is broke he won’t have the same clout he does now.

  30. 30 Hurricane May 5th, 2009 at 10:26 am

Sort of fitting that the pic of Mario above has him crying sperm.

  31. 31 rob May 5th, 2009 at 10:28 am

I think that everyone should follow Nati’s example, and refuse to call him by his fanboy name and refer to him by his real name.

  32. 32 Minnow May 5th, 2009 at 11:25 am

Frankly, the adipose Cupie doll did Miss California a favor.

I mean really, Prejean could have won the crown and then she’d slip back into total obscurity with the other five thousand beauty pagent winners currently living in Brentwood today.

Wow, another leggy blonde with duct taped breasts wins a tin foil crown. Big deal.

But now she’s got a whole new career.

And Crisco-ass outs himself as a gay Scut Farkus.

    Win/Win.

  33. 33 JC May 5th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Just because someone gives an honest answer doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be challenged, and I wouldn’t exactly call prejudice polite.

That being said, Perez is an idiot and pageants attract idiocy so I hope they can all learn to play in the same sandbox together again and off to planet silicone.

  34. 34 Beige May 5th, 2009 at 12:46 pm

@JC: So…”dumb bitch” now constitutes a cogent, thought-out “challenge” to Prejean’s comment. Noted.

So you’re saying the President of the United States is prejudiced.

  36. 36 Baba Yaga May 5th, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Exactly Simon! Obama’s position on gay marriage is exactly that same as Miss California’s. Why aren’t Pigez and that Moakler bimbo screeching at Obama?

  37. 37 Baba Yaga May 5th, 2009 at 2:16 pm

That should be “exactly the same”.

  38. 38 Hurricane May 5th, 2009 at 3:44 pm

People who deride anti-gay marriage proponents are prejudiced.

JC appears to be a prejudiced as anyone.

  39. 39 Nati May 5th, 2009 at 5:16 pm

While I disagree with Prejean, I think Mario should have just kept his mouth shut. He started the whole thing – it was all about attention and publicity for him, he doesn’t care about gay rights…or anything or anyone else except himslef. By asking that question and going after Prejean the way he did he didn’t do any good to the gay community – on the contrary, he’s setting us back 20 years on the gay marriage issue. But I do not sympathize with Prejean either – if she had just given her answer and left it at that I would have respected it, even though I disagree with her. But all the things she said after the pageant was over…She said “No one is born gay, homosexuality is a choice”. I was almost as appalled as I was when I heard Sarah Palin say something similar. Is that really what people think? That sexual orientation is a choice? Well, it’s not and I think that Carrie Prejean and others who think that way are not very well informed about this subject. But Mario’s lambasting her all day every day in his “blog” is not doing us any favors.

Chronic, I’d link you to No estoy muerto’s comments, but I’m afraid of Simon. There’s no telling what he might do to me for linking to his dear friend Mario’s “blog”.

  40. 40 Simon Scowl May 5th, 2009 at 6:17 pm

Some people do, yeah. I don’t agree with it either. But I don’t think she’s an evil person for expressing her opinion, however unlikely it might be. She’s not calling anybody names or questioning the motives of those who disagree. The people trying to shout her down are.

And she’s not supposed to stand up for herself? She’s just supposed to let all these people slander her in front of the whole world?

Chronic, I’d link you to No estoy muerto’s comments, but I’m afraid of Simon. There’s no telling what he might do to me for linking to his dear friend Mario’s “blog”.

Fine by me. You are not a victim, so please stop pretending to be one.

  41. 41 Vince May 5th, 2009 at 6:24 pm

    Here’s a novel idea:

The sanctioning of ANY relationship, straight or gay, is not a proper function of government. Since marriage started as a religious institution/sacrament, then that’s where it should stay.

If Joe Meatblower wants to “marry” his gay lover, then let them find a “church” that will perform the ceremony, but quit expecting everyone else (including government) to accept their “marriage”. Same goes for the straight couple. Marriage is between you, your partner, and your god. Stop forcing others to kow-tow and kiss your ass.

    Done and done. Problem solved.

Oh yeah, Perez Hilton is a douchebag.

  42. 42 JC May 5th, 2009 at 8:02 pm

@Beige: I agree that Perez’s response was completely, absolutely off-base (no surprise there).

    @Simon: What if I am?

People talk about gay marriage ripping apart the fabric of society in much the same way that interracial marriage was spoken about 50-odd years ago (see: Racial Integrity Act). Marriage from the perspective of government is a legal agreement that allows certain rights in terms of taxes, workplace benefits, insurance etc that should be afforded to couples regardless of sexual orientation. In much the same way that women cannot be Catholic priests, I also believe it is the rights of individual religious organizations to choose how progressive they wish to be from there. Isn’t that the point of a separation between church and state? I’m tired of hearing “it’s the way I was raised” as a point of argument.

If Prejean hadn’t lost me before, she certainly did at, “Unless we bring men and women together children will not have mothers and fathers”. If you’re going to be a spokesperson for NOM at least be moderately informed.

    What if you are what?

  44. 44 Timm May 5th, 2009 at 8:24 pm

@Vince….if it is only up to churches to decide, then why must people apply for and pay for marriage licenses through the government?

With all this hoopla surrounding gay marriage, I must state that even if I were allowed to marry my partner of two years, I wouldn’t. Not because I don’t love him to death but because my morals guide me away from the so-called “sanctity” of marriage. Even so, I don’t think it is the churches’ business to tell me who I am to love…nor the governments for that matter. I would like the choice though…perhaps some visitation rights would suffice but I guess I could always claim to be a relative…there are ways around everything.

    Trust.

  45. 45 Nati May 5th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Simon, I don’t think she’s an evil person, I just don’t think she’s well informed…this is a very unpleasant situation for everyone. And it’s all Mario’s fault. I guess it’s impossible to function normally in society if you have a severe inferiority complex.

    Here’s the link for Chronic:

    http://perezhilton.com/2009-05-03-quote-of-the-day-502

scroll down to the comment no.43 and go from there…but quick, before Mario deletes them all – he does it all the time. He can dish it out, but most certainly he can’t take it.

And I’m sorry, Simon, I wasn’t trying to play the victim, I just always assume that I annoy people and that they don’t like me…I guess I have an inferiority complex myself :(

  46. 46 Nati May 5th, 2009 at 8:36 pm

but he most certainly can’t take it *fixed*

  47. 47 Chronic Malanga May 5th, 2009 at 8:39 pm

    Nati,

You pretty much nailed it. I think that the gay marriage issue shouldn’t even be an issue and don’t understand why they shouldn’t be allowed to marry. But this whole situation…wow, it’s just something Mario has grabbed with both of his pudgy (and probably sticky) hands, and run far too far with it.

Apparently this question was “pulled out of a hat” and entirely random. Why are pageant officials allowing such divisive issues to be discussed at a freakin’ beauty pageant. I knew the ratings for these things were low, but this was cheap, because no matter how she had responded, someone would have been hacked off and obnoxious about it, whether it be Mario or freaked out fanatical groups like the Phelps clan. So, why allow for the controversy if not for cheap publicity at the expense of a contestant? So my first gripe is with the asshat that allowed this question to be asked.

I don’t agree with Prejean, but she answered honestly and politely, and she is entitled to her opinion. My issue with her is that she doesn’t really even seem to have a deeply thought out opinion on the matter, but she’s riding that wave to fame and noteriety as the poster girl for traditional marriage. Yet, in one interview, she had no opinion on civil unions or anything else regarding LGBT issues. It’s like she’s parroting what she’s heard from the altar and little else.

You’re right, Nati, Mario doesn’t care about LGBT issues because even though he himself is gay, he is an attention whore too focused on himself to form a coherent and profound thought about real issues. All he knows how to do is put up blog posts that are full of typos and draw penises on celebrity photographs while he worships bimbos or tears them down for all the wrong reasons and in all the wrong ways. I get a laugh out of some of the posts now and again, but there is so much better out there that it boggles the mind how he could even be so popular. I’d rather read this site, DListed and the Superficial any day of the week – and I do. At least when someone dies, Dlisted and Superficial treat it with more respect other than a comment along the lines of “So sad,” which has all the sincerity of a small town, Southern, used car salesman (I can say that I’m Southern). The quality of his blog has also plummeted the more famous he’s become. He is loving every minute of this and making all the noise he can, as though he is some great champion of gay rights when he is nothing more than an embarrassment and set back to the very cause. That little bitch was the shame of Cuban Americans, and now he’s the shame of every gay person aware of his existence. He makes me sick.

And yeah, Nati, you watch for that Simon. I hear he can be dangerous.;) I’ll find No estoy muerto (GREAT name) when it’s not nearly two in the morning.

  48. 48 Chronic Malanga May 5th, 2009 at 8:41 pm

Oooh, thanks for the link, Nati! Going to read now… and fast!

  49. 49 Simon Scowl May 5th, 2009 at 8:59 pm

Simon, I don’t think she’s an evil person

No, but that’s what her opponents are trying to convince us. They’re trying to destroy her for disagreeing with them.

  50. 50 Catharine May 5th, 2009 at 9:33 pm

I think the whole ‘gay is a choice’ argument stems from examples of people who do switch back and forth. I’ve personally known girls who have done that- been a lesbian one year and happily dating a man the next. But I’ve also known girls who have been gay since childhood and find sex with a man disgusting. Well I guess I’m trying to say that I can see how it looks like a choice and would be confusing to outsiders.

  51. 51 katie May 5th, 2009 at 11:54 pm

side note: perez used to REALLY get on miley cyrus’ case but now that she said shes for gay marriage he NEVER gets on her anymore. hilarious.. he’s so full of it. he will “sell to anyone who will buy”

  52. 52 Chronic Malanga May 6th, 2009 at 7:37 am

Nati, I think I love No estoy muerto now too.

  53. 53 Vince May 6th, 2009 at 9:33 am

    Timm,

You hit the nail right on the head. People indeed do have to apply and pay for marriage licenses through the government. Which is exactly what I was arguing against. It’s just another example of government injecting itself into an area it doesn’t belong in.

It is not the proper role of government to sanction a romantic relationship.

As for the tax benefits, here’s another novel idea: Simplify the tax code so that people won’t need to change their marital status for such-and-such a benefit.

  54. 54 johanne May 7th, 2009 at 7:50 am

Perez is angry that someone does not agree with his lifestyle. He knows it is gross and wrong and the only way to feel slightly better about his immoral behavior he has to act like an idiot. Hey Perez, what in your closet? I am sure there is a lot more discusting behavior and pic’s. I hope someone out there starts publicizing stuff about you. When you decide to sling dirt, remember you also get dirty and lose a lot of groud.

  55. 55 Jill May 7th, 2009 at 9:11 am

As a conservative-libertarian, I don’t think the government should have anything to do with marriage. As for tax laws, the government needs to rethink why it allows certain benefits for certain marital states – and if there’s a legitimate reason for it, reconsider the qualifications. As for corporate-sponsored benefits, it should be up to the individual company; the whole point of companies offering benefits is to attract the best people for a position at the lowest cost. Granted, profits may be influenced by how the public perceives the company’s “moral values” *cough, cough* , but in the end it’s a business decision.

I wish we really had a free market economy and a government that knew its place.

  56. 56 MC Mom May 7th, 2009 at 11:18 am

Why not have state-sanctioned civil unions for everyone (for legal, tax and financial benefits) and those who want can have a religious wedding ceremony? For all my ire against the French, this is one thing they do that makes sense.

  57. 57 Vince May 7th, 2009 at 9:20 pm

    MC Mom,

Civil unions aren’t what they want. In truth, this isn’t even really about tax and financial benefits. It’s about forcing you, me, and everybody else to accept something that we might otherwise not willingly accept. It’s about being able to say “We’re married, and you WILL accept it!” But why do they choose government to achieve this rather than simply convince the churches to go along with it? Simple:

Government is the only entity with a legal monopoly on force. Government passes such-and-such a law, but the only way it can ensure that people obey said law is through the threat of physical force. Without force, John Doe could simply say to government “Up yours.” No, government has to be able to guarantee that people will obey its laws. And so it forces one to obey. Disobey and you find yourself in handcuffs, behind bars, or worse.

Now obviously government has to be able to use force to guarantee that we obey laws. The question is whether or not government should exercise that force in a preemptive manner, or should force be strictly used in a retaliatory sense? That is another discussion for another day.

And so the “gay rights” activists advocate that government be the entity to ensure gay “marriage”, because government has the ability to guarantee that you bow your knee and obey. The conservative is equally guilty in advocating that government mandate marriage be only between men and women. (Which should go a long way towards disproving the notion that conservatives believe in less government regulation. They don’t want less government regulation, they simply want government to regulate things their way, as opposed to the leftist’s way. They want different government regulation, not necessarily less.)

Sure, taxes and other financial benefits play a part. But that’s not the heart of the matter. The real issue is control. The conservatives and the pseudo-liberals are different sides of the same coin, saying the same thing: “We will make you accept our way.” (I say “pseudo-liberal” because real, old-school classical liberalism has virtually nothing in common with today’s fake “liberalism”.)

And so the gay-rights activists refuse to leave the matter in the hands of religious institutions. (Hell, for that matter, they refuse to leave it in the hands of the majority, as evidenced by their gnashing-of-teeth at California’s constitutional amendment.) Because 1) freedom of religion is still the law of the land, and 2) most churches still won’t recognize gay “marriage”, and 3) only government has a legal monopoly on the use of force, they advocate that government make you conform.

Isn’t Perez Hilton one of the signs that the apocalypse is upon us? I can’t think of a better microcosm for how low we have come as a people then him.
