Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons Isn’t Obama’s Piggybank

jimgibbonsThe other day I mentioned President Obama slamming Las Vegas as a symbol of evil capitalist decadence and then turning around and attending a political fundraiser there for Harry Reid, and how Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons isn’t taking it lying down. According to The Hill, it sounds like Gibbons has been pressing the point:

In an interview on Fox News Channel’s [Boooooo! -- MGMT] “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” Gibbons repeated his claim that Obama’s comments have cost Las Vegas 400 conventions and business meetings, 112,000 hotel guests and more than $100 million in revenue.

Gibbons said the White House told him that the president will not meet with him, and that he is “shocked the president would make a remark like that and then do nothing, including meeting with the governor, in an attempt to repair the damage that his remarks caused.”

“I do see some hypocrisy in there, because it is OK for him to come to Nevada and take campaign cash from Nevadans,” Gibbons said. “You know, I think he wants our money. But he discourages businesses from coming here. I think he ought to be ashamed of what he has done to the working people in my state.”

It’s one thing to play class warfare games by setting one city against another — in this case Vegas and layoff-plagued Elkhart, IN — to try to drive your policies. It’s quite another to then use that very same symbol of America’s sins to raise cash for your buddies.

Say what you want about Vegas, but people go there of their own free will for a reason, the state of Nevada has legally sanctioned it, and the people who live there feed their families because of it. So maybe they don’t like it when the President of the United States says, “You suck, but thanks for the money.”

The Chosen One will never apologize for any comments he made because:

    1) He didn’t say that.

    2) You took what he didn’t say the wrong way.

    3) The Chosen One never apologizes.

There’s something more decadent in Nevada that Obama will never admit; the absence of income taxes. From the guy who wants a huge government paid by the rich, Nevada sets a very bad example.

It’s nice to see that more and more people are beginning to fight back against Obama and his useful idiots. More and more people are realizing that Obama is a fraud and a liar. Unfortunately, plenty of damage has been and will be done because these same people who are fighting back were fooled by empty rhetoric and grand slogans of hope and change.

The idea that Obama, or any politician for that matter, would say “don’t go to Vegas” and someone would actually listen is the most shocking, and pathetic thing of all.

  5. 5 TheIrish May 22nd, 2009 at 12:20 pm

That idea that people actually still listen to politicians is shocking and pathetic to me.

Given the Big O’s history of revenge by proxy (i.e., having his henchpeople hunt down any negative thing they can find, such as sealed divorce records, then publishing same), I imagine Jim Gibbons is for the time being #1 on a very closely-guarded list somewhere. If he’s ever said a bad word, walked past someone who was smoking weed, looked askance at a loose woman, he’s done for. Obama will smear him and do whatever he can (rather, hire it done) to destroy Gibbons. It’s his MO. Well, his OTHER MO.

Obama will never apologize. It is beneath him. I think I am still hearing crickets from when the Feds busted up the terrorist cell in NY this week who were under survillance since 2008 – nothing from Obama on that big take down. Nope, just the same blame game. Bush’s fault. This man, The One has lied, manipulated and flip-flopped his way into the highest seat of our great country. I for one, am damn proud that high figures are now catching onto him and shouting, hell no. Especially when the unions in Nevada and Las Vegas helped carry this idiot to office.

You see, his teleprompter made him say those words and told people not to go to Vegas. After all, we know who is really running this country :)

And Pasta – it has to do with the fear factor. People listen to him because he envokes fear and tells people that we are all gonna die if we do not listen to him.

Obama has put the fear into people about the economy. Listen to his remarks during that time. Nothing about hope in them. However, when Cheney talks about what Bush and his team did to thwart terror, Obama pulls out the fear card with him.

Oh, Beige, you mean if he’s done anything Obama has??

Pasta, TheIrish — Obama isn’t just the president or a politician. He’s special. He said let there be no Vegas and there was no Vegas and he was pleased!

  10. 10 Pastafarian May 22nd, 2009 at 1:15 pm

That’s ridiculous. He doesn’t scare me. He shouldn’t scare anyone. Doesn’t anyone think critically anymore?

  11. 11 Beige May 22nd, 2009 at 1:56 pm

Pasta, he wouldn’t scare me if he–or Soros, or SOMEONE–hadn’t surrounded him with a cult of True Believers, who are apparently willing to do anything and everything to consolidate his power. On his own, he’s another Affirmative Action sock puppet (why else would his transcripts STILL be under wraps? What has he EVER “fixed” besides elections?) but with his devotees, he’s a sock puppet with a sledgehammer inside.

There are still people here in my area that just see him, the man and never saw anything else. My co-worker voted for him because he was black (shhhhh, I know.) When I spoke to her on some changes he wants to make in regards to HR stuff, she was shocked and said that she never heard about any of this stuff. Some people only listen to what they want to hear, others never listen, the just vote while others I know voted his way because their preacher told them to.

  13. 13 Toubrouk May 22nd, 2009 at 2:55 pm

–He doesn’t scare me. He shouldn’t scare anyone.–

In fact, he’s the one who should be scared. That’s how democracy should work; the leaders at the service of the people, not the other way around.

  14. 14 TrojanPrincess May 22nd, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Believe me, I’m plenty annoyed at Obama’s tendency to insult one group of people while talking to another and his use of fear-mongering to get what he wants; but I do wonder if all those conventions and hotel reservations were just canceled because people were making logical sacrifices to save money, and would have come to that decision anyway regardless of Obama’s scolding.

  15. 15 Hmmm... May 22nd, 2009 at 4:00 pm

    Toubrouk,

“In fact, he’s the one who should be scared. That’s how democracy should work; the leaders at the service of the people, not the other way around.”

“I am heartily rejoiced that my term is so near its close. I will soon cease to be a servant and will become a sovereign.” –James K. Polk diary entry February 13, 1849

One of my personal favorite presidents.

For all of his failures it amazes me that there are still a lot of people who try and defend him. He has only proven one thing to me during his Presidency so far and that is he was not ready for the job. All of his pre-election promises were misstated lies starting with same old people, same old politics. Thank GOD for Fox news. It was the only site not calling him The One and kissing his feat. Even Hillary said that they were the only station to treat her fairly and that is saying something. Biased stations like MSNBC, CNN, and newspapers like the New York Times can kiss my Libertarian Butt. All a bunch of liars. Oh and great business reporting NBC; NOT!!!

  17. 17 Beige May 25th, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Hmmm, nice (and VERY appropriate) quote. And y’all are right; democracy SHOULD work that way. But with a socialist token president whose mantra is “I WON”, it’s not gonna work that way. We bought a pig in a poke–or rather, his apostles did–and now we’re finding out it’s rabid.

  18. 18 jb May 26th, 2009 at 11:30 am

Ok, for all of you out there who enjoy paying other people to go to Vegas: actually read the statement. He never said that noone should go to Vegas. He said that banks should not be paying for trips to Vegas while receiving taxpayer bailouts. Getting upset at everything he says makes you reactionary. Do you really want to be paying for someone else’s Vegas trip? Would you keep loaning someone rent money because he spent his paycheck on gambling and prostitutes?

  19. 19 Simon Scowl May 26th, 2009 at 12:01 pm

Do you really want to be paying for someone else’s Vegas trip?

You’re paying for President Obama’s trip to Vegas. Right now.

  20. 20 angry army wife May 26th, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Yep. By Obama flying out there to raise money for a campaign, he is spending a lot of taxpayers dollars, not to mention all of those carbon footprints. I guess it is okay with him, just not others. They hammered Bush for overspending, yet Obama plans a big trip on Air Force One to just sign bills into act. Not to mention the whole Scare Force One that took place in NYC.
