The other night Bill O’Reilly, guardian of the All-Smug Zone, criticized HotAir.com for saying the following about Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor:
Unqualified, militant and socialist. NEXT, please. The GOP has to block any of Husseins [sic] extremist picks.
Pretty harsh stuff! Only one problem. Even though O’Reilly labeled this as a “blog posting,” it was actually a blog comment. Which means, as every American in 2009 but Bill O’Reilly knows, that it does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the blogger. This is like claiming that Holly Won’t likes Kate Gosselin’s hair because I left a comment saying I do.
Last night O’Reilly apologized for the error. Sorta:
There you go. If you try to log onto O’Reilly’s site and spew hateful stuff, such as referring to the President by (gasp) his actual middle name, it’s outta there. O’Reilly doesn’t just say, “I didn’t do it.”
Oh wait, yes he does. That’s exactly what he says. As blogger Patterico discovered, when you sign up for a premium membership at billoreilly.com, you must accept the following terms of use:
BillOReilly.com does not control or pre-screen the files, information, or messages (collectively referred to as “Information”) delivered to or displayed in the Message Boards, unless otherwise noted therein, and BillOReilly.com assumes no duty to, and does not monitor or endorse Information within the Message Boards.
Translation: Now that I’ve got your 5 bucks a month, you can post stuff here. But if anybody gets ticked off, I’m not responsible for it. Which is amazingly similar to the setup at Hot Air and most other blogs, except for the “5 bucks a month” part.
We realize you’re flummoxed by the Internet and most other inventions after 1965, Bill, but maybe you could take a Learning Annex course or something. Do they offer Not Being a Pinhead 101?
Update: O’Reilly just created a whole lot more work for his Internet guys.

OH MY GOD! People actually read blog comments??? What about all that stuff I’ve said?!
WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE TELL ME!
Wait….so you’re implying Holly now likes Octomom Prime’s hairstyle now? Why the flip-flop? Sounds like someone needs to do a post on her
Oh god. Now see what you’ve done? I demand a retraction.
I guess Deceiver is responsible for loving Denise Richard’s sweater-puppies too since I said I love them.
Okay, I apologize for the implication that you don’t like Kate’s awesome hair.
MUAH-HA-HA-HA!!!
Oh my god, there is so much chaos right now!! And I am a little aprhensive [sic] to seeing Billo’s douchey expression after I just woke up.
p.s. Don’t worry Pastafarian…I read your comments everytime.
Also, I thought Michelle Malkin was sucking Billo whenever he wasn’t on blubbering some nights on the Factor. Also, she didn’t seem to mind the bad publicity when she accused Rachel Ray / Dunkin’ Donuts for promoting terrorism with a PAISLEY SCARF for an ad.
Okay, too early. With that note, time to get some Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, extra infidel, 4 sugars. French vanilla!
Yeah, please try that one again, Meg. Not following you.
Michelle was pointing out the stupidity of people who wear the costumes of murderers like Ray and the keffiyeh, Red Star wearing idiots like Cameron Diaz and the legions of morons who were Che pictures.
Useful idiots all.
Who’s Bill O’Reilly? Anyone I should know?
(Sorry, guys, I don’t have cable.)
Should have written “wear” and not typed “were”. I guess since I wrote it Deceiver has to take responsibility for that too.
Bill is always reliable in that he is always STUPID. But it is rather obnoxious of the COMMENT (different than the a blog POST Bill!) to refer to Obama by his middle name. Unless it’s a name they go by, why would you do that to *anyone* except to make some sort of point about the name itself or poke fun? I mean, honestly? It’s just stupid. Not horrible omgracistevil but just stupidly unnecessary and thus not really a defensible action.
That was one of the stupider things I’ve ever see him do, namely to someone with more balls than he’ll ever have.
I think this also means that Deceiver is responsible for the rise in teen pregnancy and STD rates with Jrod around and all…
Jess- I understand where you are going with your argument and ion some regards you are certainly correct but I believe you miss the point. It is that we are not allowed to say Hussein but when Obama is overseas he ues it ALL the time. So we are not allowed to call him on that?
You know, I don’t hate Bill O’Reilly, precisely because he tends to piss off all the people I most want to see pissed off. Same goes for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity (with whom I once went out, but that’s another story) and Ann Coulter. I do wish O’Reilly would stop auditioning for a slot on “Who’s More Grizzled?” because it really isn’t that hard to pick up a few things about the internet. If I can do it, I’m pretty sure he could.
Well said, Beige.
I feel too shitty this morning to think, but I do want to say: Best “O-Face” ever at 0:38. <3
I wonder if O’Reilly will tell us HE has blood on HIS hands because an innocent, abortion providing doctor was assassinated by a terrorist last week.
He spent so many months railing against that guy personally, I wonder how it’s any different than that white supremacist that got convicted for whatever he did(his name and those facts escape me at the moment, and I’m not looking it up. He was the head of W.A.R. I think.)
I despised George Tiller too, but I absolutely did not want him dead. I don’t think he deserved martyr status, by any means, but now he’s got it because some whackbox couldn’t–or didn’t–control himself.
And I think you’re referring to Eric Rudolph. But I could be wrong.
No, Tom Metzger. He was convicted, (is that the word?) in a civil suit for talking too much. Just like O’Reilly.
And doctors performing perfectly legal medical procedures should not be murdered. No matter how disgusting someone thinks it is. Trying to intimidate people, or change policy through violence, or murder sure sounds like terrorism to me.
Pasta, I’m with you – I don’t think the late-term procedure should be legal, but killing those who perform it is not the answer.
Between this murder and the Sotomayor nomination, it looks like the culture wars and identity politics are back in the spotlight. Welcome back!
*sound of MC Mom’s head hitting wall in despair*
Y’all did see where I made it clear I don’t share anyone’s glee over Tiller’s murder, right? Because trying to stop murder WITH murder? Is stupid. Not to mention hypocritical.
Yep, Beige, I got that. Should’ve included you in my comment with Pasta. Now back to banging my head against the wall…
