Elizabeth Edwards Sounds Ready for a Do-Over

Courtesy of Mickey Kaus, here’s Elizabeth on The Charlie Rose Show the other night:

CHARLIE ROSE: How would you have lived your life differently based on what you know now?

ELIZABETH EDWARDS: Boy, I mean, there’s so many — I certainly would have gotten mammograms more often. That was an easy one.

CHARLIE ROSE: Yes, of course, right.

ELIZABETH EDWARDS: You know, I would not have voluntarily put myself in a position where I thought I would lose a child…

CHARLIE ROSE: Of course not.

ELIZABETH EDWARDS: … and that I would feel so betrayed. I wouldn’t have done that voluntarily. I would…

CHARLIE ROSE: What does that mean? I don’t know what that means.

ELIZABETH EDWARDS: That means I would have made different choices. You know, I might have married somebody else and done something else …

Wow. Are there still people holding out hope that John Edwards’ political career can be resurrected? Besides John Edwards, of course.

According to her interview with Oprah she was still with John and they were taking it one day at a time.

I guess those days were limited.

I believe that’s the first honest statement I’ve ever heard from that couple.

    I feel so clean! *squeek!*

  3. 3 Beige May 29th, 2009 at 11:12 am

    So…the book’s not selling, then?

  4. 4 Kate May 29th, 2009 at 1:05 pm

what does she mean by “I would not have voluntarily put myself in a position where I thought I would lose a child…”? is she saying she wishes she’s never had the child who died? how do you voluntarily put yourself in a position where your child is killed in a car accident?

  5. 5 Koka May 29th, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Nope, sounds like the book’s not selling, Beige. And some of that stuff she thought she had a choice about, she didn’t.

  6. 6 Marilyn May 29th, 2009 at 1:59 pm

I’m reading into her statement but maybe she meant she wouldn’t let her son have the same freedom with driving a car at sixteen since he was killed driving to their beach home which I thinks is a couple hours away.

So, I guess then she needs a few more minutes of fame cause people lost interest? Is this why she keeps bringing it up? Dump the guy already.

  8. 8 Marilyn May 29th, 2009 at 3:18 pm

I doubt EE wants to keep bringing up the affair & love child issue. Unfortunately, that’s the only issue the the media keeps bringing up in regards to her book which is #1 on the best seller’s list I just checked. I’ve read “Resilience” and it is Elizabeth telling you her life story. I read hundreds of posts in all the articles on the internet about EE “airing her dirty laundry”. Read her book because it is nothing about airing her dirty laundry but thanks to unprofessional media whores like Barbara Walters on the View we were given sensational TV for the View’s ratings.

Will Barbara Walters be as tough on Rielle Hunter when she interviews her?

  9. 9 Beige May 29th, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Thought as much. You know, tomato juice is STUPENDOUS for getting tarnish off your halo, Elizabeth.

  10. 10 Happy Camper May 29th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

I heard on one of the interviews that Resilience is #1 on the NY best seller list. I also read the book. Not much in it about the affair. I also read on the internet that ABC posted there was no interview planned for RH and BW. Two mistresses trying to justify interfering in another woman’s family. What a joke!

I do have something I am interested in. Why is Mel Gibson getting a pass for the same thing John Edwards did. Mel has 8 kids and a wife. Now his mistress is PG. The only difference I see in the two situations is that Mel is a drunken perv. and John is stupid. JE is getting the S**t kicked out of him and Mel is on the Tonight show making an ass out of himself and making fun of others. Man are we a sick society or what?

  11. 11 Les Paul May 29th, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Happy C, Mel is just an actor, not running for any office, especially not the top spot a country has to offer. John is a politician, who ran for Pres US — and apparently as sick as we are, we still try to hold elected officials to a higher standard. Ever since Mel has imploded a bit in the last couple of years, I’d say he’s kinda lost some respect as being a sane individual (hmmm, like Martin Riggs!). He no longer has any standard to live up to.

I don’t know if Mel tried hiding his liason — if he did then he’s hypocrite material. We know John wasn’t being truthful.

  12. 12 Happy Camper May 29th, 2009 at 10:41 pm

They are both men who cheated on their families. They may have different professions but the same rules apply. Ask Mel’s wife if she sees a difference. See if the definition of adultery is different for one than another. Mel held himself out as the only true Christian. How’s that working out?

Mel is truthful and throws mistress with child in face of wife who bore 8 children. Some how that’s better than trying to keep wife from finding out that a one night stand was a year long affair, with child. Both are wrong. Mel gets no pass. Man, I didn’t know Mel was 53y/o. I have friends who are in their 60’s and are in much better shape than he is.

Oh, I like how a man can get a pass if he tells everyone about the mistress. Men don’t take this advice if there is a shotgun in the house.

  13. 13 Les Paul May 30th, 2009 at 2:09 am

HC, I agree wholeheartedly with you. I don’t think he should get a pass either. I was just explaining why the press/media is acting the way they are. But I should have known from your initial post you already knew that — I just couldn’t leave your rhetorical question alone. I guess the press should, at the very least, get a hypocritical honorable mention (as if they don’t have enough of ‘em).

  14. 14 Pinandpuller May 30th, 2009 at 5:37 am

Are you sure it was Mel Gibson? I thought that it was Keith Richards.

And to be fair maybe Mel wouldn’t let his wife read “The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands” because it was written by a Jew.

  15. 15 Beige May 30th, 2009 at 10:13 am

I don’t see Mel Gibson working again anytime soon, and CERTAINLY not being taken seriously, precisely because he did hold himself out as the one true Christian in the world. In his own circle, he’s getting exactly the same treatment as John Edwards is in his damp little demimonde. So things are pretty much even.

If this thread turns into a defense of Edwards, well…good luck with all that. Don’t think it will work out, but whatever.

  16. 16 Happy Camper May 30th, 2009 at 12:06 pm

After Mel’s confession he got a gig on the Tonight show. I don’t intend to take up for JE, although, I think a person should be untied from the stock after a period of time. This has been going on for a year. The man’s not evil, just stupid. How long do we punish stupid?

I doubt Mel’s being punished like JE in his circles. For an actor any press is good and by the other articles on this site, Mel’s in no worse shape than most. This will probably bring him big box office returns.

    It seems unfair. Just sayin’.

  17. 17 Fortunate_Son May 30th, 2009 at 4:08 pm

It’s funny how HappyCamper always shows up exclusively to participate in John Edwards conversations, and always to tell us what a morally upstanding man JE is and we should buy EE’s book.

I’m saving my money to buy Rielle Hunter’s book.

  18. 18 Happy Camper May 30th, 2009 at 7:27 pm

I only show up for this discussion because I don’t care about the other discussions. I don’t see where I’ve said JE is morally upstanding. Just said fair is fair. You know in an alternative world. Don’t plan on buying the mistresses book, or going to a Mel Gibson movie. I also don’t plan on donating to JE and his causes. I think I will just work on my causes.

  19. 19 angry army wife May 30th, 2009 at 8:50 pm

the difference between Mel and John? Mel admitted to the affair and admitted that his girlfriend is pregnant with his child. He did not lie, or use campaign money that was raised for his race to the biggest office in this country to buy off his girlfriend. Mel may be stupid, but not that stupid.

  20. 20 Fortunate_Son May 30th, 2009 at 9:58 pm

How long do we punish stupid?

Well we punish ‘hypocritical’ forever when it was almost the POTUS.

    There are two Americas alright.

One where you’re born John Edwards son and live in a megamillion man$ion and have every advantage and one where John Edwards is your deadbeat dad.

  21. 21 Happy Camper May 30th, 2009 at 10:03 pm

You don’t know Mel didn’t lie. You don’t know how long the affair went on before he got caught.

  22. 22 Marilyn May 31st, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Fortunate Son – Do you know for a fact that John Edwards is a dead beat dad? There has been pictures of Rielle Hunter putting Frances into a BMW SUV with North Carolina license plates on it. Who is paying for this?? Certainly not Andrew Young.

    http://www.insideedition.com/news.aspx?storyID=2905

  23. 23 Fortunate_Son Jun 2nd, 2009 at 2:29 am

The BMW SUV was leased to Andrew Young until August 2008, when he turned it in.

Rielle Hunter drives a beat up Volkswagen Jetta, honey, and John Edwards is a deadbeat dad in every sense of the word.

  24. 24 Marilyn Jun 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 am

Did you look at the link I attached? Rielle is putting her 15 month old daughter into a BMW SUV with NORTH CAROLINA license plates or did Inside Edition fake this picture? I think Rielle is quietly being provided for by Edwards maybe not to the tune she wants but who else would paying for this fancy set of wheels! Last I heard Rielle doesn’t work.

  25. 25 Fortunate_Son Jun 4th, 2009 at 9:15 pm

Yes, any insinuation that Rielle Hunter is driving a BMW SUV with North Carolina plates is false. Rielle Hunter is living in Orange, NJ now.

  26. 26 Marilyn Jun 5th, 2009 at 10:24 am

Fortunate Son – So its an “insinuation” she driving a BMW SUV – you’ve checked this out yourself – who car is it then?? I believe the Inside edition report did say she has been living in South Orange, NJ and that was in the NE in December 2008, basically you don’t have an explanation for the BMW SUV! If she isn’t being provide the car by Edwards to keep quiet, then the NE reports of RH pressing for paternity test will happen? My guess Edwards is paying child support and providing the car but you don’t want to admit Edwards isn’t a “dead dad”.
