Laurie David Is Enthusiastic About Curbs

She keeps putting up new ones!

The outspoken environmentalist is in trouble again for trying to kill the Earth. Or at least a patch of it that she owns in Martha’s Vineyard. According to the New York Post:

The Vineyard Gazette reports that David, ex-wife of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Larry David and executive producer of the global-warming documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” was fined $900 Tuesday after receiving a citation from the Chilmark conservation commission.

David was cited for violating the Wetlands Protection Act during the construction of a tennis court on her sprawling Chilmark property, when workers installed boards and stones to construct a path to the court.

But David — who spent weeks on the road with Sheryl Crow in 2007 during their Stop Global Warming College Tour — let her contractor, Bart Thorpe, take the fall for the violations. “She’s obviously a very busy person, and she trusted the contractor,” Thorpe told the Gazette. “I inadvertently made a mistake. It’s something she had no knowledge of . . . It’s a minor thing.”

Tell that to Mother Nature!

This isn’t the first time David has been cited for violating the act. In 2005, she was reprimanded for building a “26-foot-long barbecue station, stone-and-concrete bonfire pit, and outdoor theater on an environmentally sensitive patch of their 14-acre North Road property without the proper permits.” (Boy, that environment. So sensitive!) It was all torn down again, but this second violation triggered the $900 fine. Which will mean she’ll need to brown-bag her lunch for a day or two. A reusable brown bag, of course.

As the Post notes, Laurie is BFF with Sheryl Crow, whose most notable contribution to environmental awareness was her admonition that we should all save trees by only using one square of toilet paper per, um, movement. (And think about it: When was the last time you saw somebody shaking hands with Sheryl Crow?) She later claimed she was just joking, which just goes to show that if you can write a hit song, you can write a hilarious comedy routine.

Hey, Sheryl, maybe you could wipe your butt with Laurie’s environmental sincerity. She obviously does.

Update: Thanks to commenter PapayaSF for pointing out that Bart Thorpe isn’t just her contractor; he’s also the guy she left her husband for. Who said chivalry is dead?

I’m all for picking up trash and not having your car overpollute, but sanctimonious “do as I say, not as I do” hypocrites like Laurie David think they are above ordinary people.

Remember when San Francisco’s Diane Feinstein ripped up the public garden outside her home in downtown San Francisco in the middle of the night, then had her staff petition local media to removal all references to it for “her safety”?

GM is the cause of alcoholism and drug addiction according to M Moore. I’d link to his blog, but I prefer not to give him any free hits.

So here we are at the deathbed of General Motors. The company’s body not yet cold, and I find myself filled with — dare I say it — joy. It is not the joy of revenge against a corporation that ruined my hometown and brought misery, divorce, alcoholism, homelessness, physical and mental debilitation, and drug addiction to the people I grew up with.

I know she’s a lefty enviro-nazi, hippie, but the woman was married to Larry David so maybe we should cut her a little slack. That guy IS George Costanza, and I can think of very few people I want to punch more. Except Hitler.

Nope. I want to punch Larry David more.

You know you’re in for some mean barbecuing when you have to call your barbecue a “station”.

Of course do not mention the carbon output the machines that were needed to install the tennis court, bbq station and then to rip up the bbq station. I thought cement was the enemy.

Fortunate_Son – Funny that Moore would dislike GM when if it wasn’t for GM the unions would have very little power in this country. And without the unions the Democrats would be have as much money as the Libetarians.

I am sure the people in Flint Michigan and, for that matter, throughout Michigan are thrilled to hear that Michael eatsMoore is filled with Joy. Our 12.9% unemployment rate is thrilling to everyone. Maybe he should go on a joy fast. He has enough extra body fat that he could make it at least a year.

As for Laurie David, she is like every other enviromental freak. Say’s one thing and does another. The only actor that I have seen talk the talk and walk the walk is the nut job with the tv show about him and his “green” life.

If she wants to start cleaning up the environment she could start with getting rid of the two-toned jacket thing she is sporting in that pic. The ugliness of it just caused two polar bears and three baby seals to die.

What is with that cutesy hand-under-chin pose? I thought those were illegal for anyone over seven. What a putzette.

For some reason now I can’t get Loudon Wainwright’s ‘Grey in LA’ out of my head:

And I suppose/Laurie David sure knows/All those cars we drive heat up our earth/ And see temperatures rise /And those constant blue skies and brush fires can sure curb your mirth

And if Michael Moore really feels that GM is the root cause of all those problems in his hometown, how in heck can what he’s feeling *not* be called ‘the joy of revenge’?!?

‘Remember when San Francisco’s Diane Feinstein ripped up the public garden outside her home in downtown San Francisco in the middle of the night, then had her staff petition local media to removal all references to it for “her safety”?’

That’s hilarious. Harvey Milk used to call her “the Wicked Witch of the West.”

This is the same Laurie David who yells at SUV drivers yet flies around in private jets.

Not that I keep up with this story, but isn’t Bart Thorpe a lot more than her “contractor”? Isn’t he the guy she left her husband for?

  14. 14 Minnow Jun 2nd, 2009 at 11:36 am

What is with that cutesy hand-under-chin pose?

That’s the GlamourShots “Deepthinker #2″ pose.

Deepthinker #1 involves a beret and handlebar moustache; so naturally, #2 with the suede & denim smoking jacket was the logical choice for Eco-Laurie

Oh, and that Michael Moore quote deserves a Deceiver thread of it’s own.

    Please.

Good catch, PapayaSF! Now that you mention it, I remember reading about that at the time. Apparently my brain has only so much room for Laurie David trivia…

  17. 17 Nati Jun 2nd, 2009 at 5:07 pm

I guess I have no sense of humour, becuase I never understood what was so funny about Seinfeld or Larry David’s show…especially, Larry David’s show…And this bitch has been getting on my nerves forever with her pseudo-eco-friendly bs…What is she famous for? (other than being Larry David’s wife) My guess was nothing, but I still checked imdb…just to be sure…what do you know, I was right.

Give Laurie David a break. She wasn’t even there. She was on a private jet in route to an environmental conference.

Hypocrisy is a rather cheap commodity in our nation these days, and the illustrious Ms. David is no exception. She comes from a position of monetary privilege which she obviously did not create herself and now feels that she is an expert on global warming and can portend to lecture to all of us in her own special condescending way. Global warming is a serious issue, but no one ever talks about the folks who are bearing the brunt of this phenomenon by living in the most environmentally impacted areas of our nation where they are forced to breathe polluted air from the diesel particulate matter spewed out endlessly by the trucks which scurry all of our manufactured goods that we import from the Pacific Rim to areas where they are repacked in larger containers and shipped by equally diesel spewing railroad engine. Ever check the cancer rates out in San Bernardino/Colton, or the I-710 corridor, or Wilmington/San Pedro? They are around 3200 for every million people which is about ten times above the “norm”, a horrible term to use when talking about cancer. When was the last time Ms. David ever visited any of these communities. Just another environmental “elitist” who talks the talk but fails to walk the walk. You can boink whoever you want Ms. David, but until you really come to know “true environmentalism” in a real and meaningful way without the need for recognition and nurturing of your own very special ego, you are nothing but a PHONY!!!!!!
