Vanessa Hudgens belongs to that cadre of people I never realize are famous until they’re in in every magazine I open. In Vanessa’s case, it’s usually it’s on the arm of her High School Musical co-star and boyfriend Zac Efron. I do recall a certain nudie-photo incident in 2007, however… [cue Wayne's World flashback music]
Disney’s High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens is speaking out after a nude photo of the actress hit the Internet on Thursday.
In a statement released Friday by her rep, Hudgens, 18, says: “I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust means the world to me. I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends.”
On Thursday, a nude picture of Hudgens surfaced on multiple Web sites. The same day her rep issued a statement saying the photo “was taken privately. It is a personal matter and it is unfortunate that this has become public.” Then on Friday, more candid photos of Hudgens (clothed, this time) began surfacing.
On Friday, a Disney Channel spokesperson released this statement: “Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment. We hope she’s learned a valuable lesson.”
The value attached to that lesson can be measured in dollars, evidently. Now that the HSM franchise has packed its bags and gone to college, Vanessa will be taking her clothes off as a prostitute in her next movie role:
Supposedly, she told the U.K.’s Metro she’ll be stripping down for her role as a hooker in the upcoming Zack Snyder flick Sucker Punch.
“I’m playing a character named Blondie and it’s set in a brothel in the 1950s, so there’s not a whole lot of clothes,” she teased.
Disney has really got to figure out a way to prescreen its child stars for exhibitionist tendencies.

Good article.
Pffft, no biggie to Disney Studios, they made a movie about a hooker…”Pretty Woman”. The corp was also involved in the vile (for Disney standards) “Down And Out In Beverly Hills” showing a close-up of people having sex. Walt Disney’s honorable name has not stood for family entertainment for a very long time, and the corporation carrying his name doesn’t care a wit about how its child stars represent that once-respectable name. IMNSHO. :-p
Agreed, Jannah. All Disney is doing here is trying not to alienate parents yet again when their representatives do something that isn’t up to par with their family-friendly image.
When an actor says they’re going for “more adult” roles, that just means that they are around 13:30 of their 15 minutes of fame. I was just shocked to find out that she was an actor in the first place.
I dont think she’s a hypocrite for starring in this role. She took a bunch of nudie photos and probably sent them to her boyfriend. Hoping it would stay private. It’s like sending a dirty text to your honey when you’re feeling randy and ready for some lovin’ when you get home from work. Granted, she’s young and those pictures may be illegally young, but I think she’s more embarassed about some private pics being seen by the public than anything else. If people would have seen naked pics of me that i didn’t intend to see naked pics of me, I’d never have taken those pics in the first place as well.
The fact that she owned up to it and didn’t deny it actually speaks pretty well for her character in my opinion.
As far as I am concerned, there’s no hypocrisy here. There’s a huge margin between leaked pics and a bona-fide role as a prostitute.
As long as she don’t try to reclaim a “Moral Virginity” after the movie, I am fine.
There may not be a “whole lot of clothes”, but that doesn’t mean she’ll show EVERYTHING…or ANYTHING, for that matter.
Just as you CAN appear in a porn movie and stay fully clothed, she CAN play a stripper and still keep the naughty bits covered.
Darek, Hudgens may or may not be hypocritical here, but she’s certainly guilty of poor judgement. It’s a fairly easy thing to remember – if you don’t want nudie pics of yourself leaked onto the internet…don’t take any nudie pics of yourself.
NOW you tell me.
Well Julia Roberts had a body double in Pretty Woman so who knows?
Maybe her agent is mad that she gave the first nudie pics away.
zack was her ‘boyfriend’ just like tommy kirk was annette’s.
I think this is potentially more of a case of Disney being hypocritical rather than VH. Kinda like they’re taking a ’she’s off our hands, we don’t care what debauchery she takes part in as long as we’re not involved in the scandal’ line, even though they’re the ones that launched her on us.
The only reason why she is popular now is because she is Zac’s gf. I guess she is just quicker to want to shed the “Disney” image than he is. I think her career will be quick, while he may come out on top for a lot longer. “Adult roles” is rather funny being that she is what, 19? 20?
Having children in their employ who are exhibitionists is exactly what Disney wants. It’s no coincidence that the majority of the kids chosen for the Mickey Mouse Club, HSM, or similar all come from poor backgrounds. Those kids, and their parents are hungry enough to do whatever necessary for the money. This is exactly what Disney wants. Kids whose parents have raised them not to put money as #1 and to have something other than attention as the guiding force in their life don’t make great child actors, because they choose to leave the business rather than put up with shenanigans.
Very good point Bumcakes. And the second type of more stable child actor you described is the type that Uncle Walt used to choose for the young actors in his projects. Not many of those at Disney now. :-p
MC MOM – “Darek, Hudgens may or may not be hypocritical here, but she’s certainly guilty of poor judgement. It’s a fairly easy thing to remember – if you don’t want nudie pics of yourself leaked onto the internet…don’t take any nudie pics of yourself.” – or dont send them to people you don’t trust or to people who will delete them right away or only show them to someone on your computer and then delete them. Lots of options
I promise to delete your pics when I’m done if anyone wants to send some nudes my way.
Jannah, let’s not canonise Walt, please. He made anti-semitic films and Song of the South.
Remind me who this is again?
“Jannah, let’s not canonise Walt, please. He made anti-semitic films and Song of the South.”
He also snitched to Unamerican Activities Commitee, falsely (?) accusing people of being Communists.
Two words: Venona. Papers. That HUAC hysteria? Wasn’t hysterical enough, as it turns out.
Were all the people he accused mentioned in Venona papers? Only one of them was later implicated as a Soviet spy. I’m not so sure about the others – there was never much proof. Anyway, the thing is, it’s not like he accused all those people of being communists because he thought he was doing his patriotic duty, he had other motives – he accused those who scorned him. All those people used to work for him and then were either fired or left. I believe two of them started their own animation studio and apparently Walt wasn’t having any of that.
I don’t think his motives are either totally clear, or provable at this point, unless there is a diary of his that admits to less-than-selfless motives. Possibly he did do such a thing; it wouldn’t have been unthinkable.
I’ve read transcripts of his testimony before HUAC, and he did say in so many words that he didn’t think you could prove someone was a Communist. I would need to compare a list of those he named with a list of those mentioned in the Venona Papers, although I do believe Sorrell was a name that popped up on both lists. Can’t recall if Pomerance was or not.
At any rate, I think Lara stated it beautifully; the hypocrisy here seems to be coming from the Disney corporation, not Hudgens.
First off, I’d hit it. And secondly, I’ll rent that movie!
Yes, she’s young and stupid, but…I. Love. Her.
