PETA Even Sadder Than Imagined

The other day I told you about PETA trying to scare little kids out of eating chicken at McDonald’s, but I didn’t realize how pathetic it really was until I saw this over at Gawker:

unhappymeal

You can always count on PETA to be witless and on-the-nose, but this really takes the tubelike apple pie. Happy Meal? No, Unhappy Meal! I’m lovin’ it? Nope, I’m hatin’ it! The only way to make this any more earnestly clueless would be to call it Mc-Don’t-alds.

Here are some more brilliant slogans for your campaign, Ingrid:

  • We do it all to you!
  • Chickens deserve a neck-break today!
  • Food, folks, and death!
  • We love to see you smile. Not!
  • Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed murder!

Sure doesn’t look like there was any mad rush to get those “Unhappy Meals,” huh? Wonder which intern picked the short straw for bawk-bawk duty. Do you think they’d make him take off the chicken head before putting him in the squad car?

Man, I’m hungry. Maybe I’ll go get some Chicken McNuggets. Or should I say… Sicken McThuggets? No, no I shouldn’t.

My kids just got home from school registration, think I’ll run over to KFC and treat them to lunch. They don’t like McD’s chicken nuggets, but only because they have more refined tastes….LOL

KFC is on PETA’s list too, so that is contrary enough for me….

  2. 2 Pastafarian Aug 7th, 2009 at 12:56 pm

    Sicken McNuggets?

How about a Quarter Pounder with Cheese?

Man I’m still terrible at these things.

  3. 3 Swede0319 Aug 7th, 2009 at 12:57 pm

Simon, it looks like the person is on public property, so McD’s couldn’t do much about the “protest”. What I would like to know is, how much side to side running room the person had? Because I’m sure various projectiles were launched.

Heh. Man, as much as I hate Albany (GA), I’d LOVE to see what would happen to some douche who tried that here. They’d NEVER find all of the carcass.

  6. 6 Swede0319 Aug 7th, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Beige, I think there would be a bigger reation from the locals if the Petards protested a Hardee’s or a Cracker Barrel.

  7. 7 Minnow Aug 7th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

Too bad, Beige. I hear vegan carcasses make excellent soup starter.

(or would that be carcasii? hmmmmm…)

  8. 8 Ln Aug 7th, 2009 at 3:47 pm

What a waste of a life. The Petards should be punished. Let’s do to them what they feel has been done to chickens.

  9. 9 Angry Army Wife Aug 7th, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Suddenly I am craving a nice, big juicy steak. And I don’t feel sorry for the person who pulled the short straw and had to wear that costume.

  10. 10 bigmama Aug 7th, 2009 at 4:34 pm

It’s not like the McNuggets are actual meat. More like beaks and feet.

  11. 11 Fortunate_Son Aug 7th, 2009 at 5:41 pm

    Mmmm. Make mine deep fried.

“…this really takes the tubelike apple pie…”

Plus, in a pinch, the hot fruit filling doubles as a weapon.

Hoist the PETArds on their own petards! Chicken McKabobs!

  14. 14 manda Aug 7th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

yeah, peta is lame. during college, I interned at a children’s museum, and one week, the oscar mayer weinermobile was there. peta protested, but it was so minor. someone was dressed up as a pink pig, and there were two other people with signs. no one cared. i was a little disappointed it wasn’t more dramatic.

best story in a while – cracked up all the way through. Thank you – I really needed that laugh. :)

I believe these are the same people that told college students to drink beer instead of milk. Name ONE college student that drinks milk?? But PETA is worthless and nothing surprised me about them.

  19. 19 Habanada Aug 10th, 2009 at 9:12 am

What I want to know is why McDonald’s didn’t do something. Sure, they don’t seem to be on the property, but they just copied trademarked slogans, fonts, and styles. I tried to do a parody website about seven years ago and received a nasty notice from the original website warning me I was in violation of trademark for spoofing their logo, and if I didn’t take it down, their lawyer was going to start talking to my lawyer, etc. etc.

  20. 20 Beige Aug 10th, 2009 at 9:19 am

Isn’t parody covered under fair use? If so, that’s undoubtedly what PETA would use to evade legal problems w/McDonald’s.

  21. 21 Pastafarian Aug 10th, 2009 at 11:43 am

    Here’s why Habanada.

peta says eating Chicken McNuggets is bad, and gets some dope to stand out there in a dumb ass chicken suit, and meanwhile McDonald’s shrugs, says “Whatever”, and goes on to sell 2,000,000 hamburgers that day. No one ever went broke by ignoring filthy hippies.

    Because hippies are stupid.

  22. 22 Minnow Aug 10th, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Isn’t parody covered under fair use?

    Parody is but satire isn’t.

And avoiding that little debate is the real reason why Socrates offed himself.

  23. 23 Beige Aug 10th, 2009 at 4:08 pm

Heh. “See, SATIRE is when…aw, screw it. Gimme the cup.”

  24. 24 Habanada Aug 10th, 2009 at 5:57 pm

Maybe I was just very easily intimidated ^_^ Still, I’d sue PeTA. Granted, who needs a reason to sue them? Let’s just sue them for stupidity.

  25. 25 Shikatehead Aug 10th, 2009 at 10:21 pm

These protesters make me so hungry. All I can think about is food. Chicken, hamburgers, pizza, bacon (elixir of the gods), shrimp, clam chowder, bacon, crab, lobster, anything that swims in the ocean, and I have a particular weakness for smoked salmon, and bacon, bacon, bacon. And finally…bacon, with a tall cool glass of bacon and bacon for dessert. And cheese! Pour melted cheese over it all! Nice, scrumptious, delicious CHEESE! I want a nekkid chick with her bewbs covered in BACON and melted CHEESE! Rawrawrawrawrawrawr!

    Good link, AAW.

Carnographic is my new word for today.

I suppose that makes me a professional carnographer. I gotta go change my business cards now.

  28. 28 Shanti Feb 20th, 2010 at 8:21 am

Well, first up, I’ll be honest and admit that not only am I vegan, I’m an animal rights activist.

That said, I often have a problem with how PETA does business. However, they do have a message worth listening to. I’m curious if any of the commenters/original blogger know how McDonald’s chickens (or chickens in general) are raised. It would vary a little bit by country, but it’s getting pretty standardized.

Let’s take New Zealand as an example. In New Zealand, layer hens are given 500 square centimeters per cage, with 3 chickens allowed per cage. This equates to less room than a loose leaf of paper per chicken- an entire life spent in an area not much bigger than their own body. A quick google of “battery cages” will give plenty of information on it, I highly recommend the image search as it’s a rather difficult concept to grasp without the visuals.

“Sow stalls” will give information about the way pigs are raised, and “broiler chickens” will show how meat chickens are raised. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the point. Most of McDonald’s meat will be raised in this way, although some exceptions exist (like Christchurch, New Zealand McDonalds)

So I guess whilst this guy is pretty crazy, surely he’s got information worth listening to? I myself have spent many an afternoon in costume raising awareness about factory farming. Or are animals really not worth any consideration, not even enough room to turn around? (Sow stalls are the devices that pregnant pigs are kept in, they’re small enough that the pig cannot turn around. In New Zealand, mother pigs are confined like that for their whole life).

The comment instructions say all (civil) opinions are welcome, so I hope I haven’t overstepped my bounds. If you have any questions on factory farming, you’re welcome to email me, I assume the original poster has access to it.
