The Los Angeles Police Department has identified the cops responsible for giving TMZ.com that photo of how badly Chris Brown broke Rihanna’s face, and just to let you know, they are taking this super seriously:
Two Los Angeles police officers have been placed on paid leave as part of an ongoing investigation into how a photo showing the battered face of Rihanna appeared on a celebrity website after the singer was assaulted by former boyfriend Chris Brown, according to four law enforcement sources familiar with the case. …
One of the officers, identified by sources as Rebecca M. Reyes, is a nine-year department veteran who was last assigned to the Wilshire Division. Her attorney told The Times that a search warrant in connection with the leak investigation had been served on her Los Angeles home.
The other officer, Blanca Lopez, is a rookie in the Hollenbeck Division and was a housemate of Reyes, according to sources.
Both have been “assigned to home” pending the outcome of the probe, according to the sources who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about it.
The Associated Press additionally reports that Reyes has been on paid leave since June 25 and Lopez since September 2. So justice has been served. Kind of. If you consider months of collecting paychecks while they sit at home “justice.”
Which is more disappointing: That these are lady cops who leaked a photo of a domestic abuse victim, or that the LAPD is paying them for their staycation?

I may be wrong, but I kinda like that these women leaked the photo (so correct me if necessary Deceiver friends). Otherwise Brown might have been able to deny the severity of his abuse to the media (since Rihanna ain’t talkin’) and continued to play the victim like OJ. As for their stay-at-home-pay I’m not so sure, if the LAPD is doing it as a formality to show that they’re doing some kind of punishment for the public’s sake, I suppose I just wish that I could get a job like that. I’d guess that they have guidelines to follow for that kind of thing though (but guidelines that can be fudged, for sure).
I actually didn’t even know who this Rihanna chick was until she got beaten up. I’m just sayin’.
P.S. Does she ever smile? She always looks so aloof and snobbish.
“sources who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about it.”
So THIS kind of leak is okay.
This leak is okay as long as you provide the name of the offenders. Now you can patiently wait for your paid vacation for leaking information.
Touche’
I guess I gotta get a gig with the LAPD.
You mean the LAPD, in the same state that is about to file Bankruptcy?? I would cash those checks quickly ladies.
I agree, never heard about her until this happened. I am glad the photos leaked because it showed what happens on a daily basis in the rest of the country. She got a serious issue out in the open and people talked about it.
By the way – what is it that she is wearing? I heard she is a fashion icon? Seriously? Looks like a bad Star Wars movie outfit.
LOL Army Wife, perhaps she got the idea from Ace Ventura when he got two spears chucked into his leg bones. X-D
Guys, she’s obviously about to do battle with Michelle Obama.
She does seem to channel Posh, doesn’t she? And now I know who took my son’s catcher’s shin guards.
Was she ashamed that what that dirtbag did to her mussed her hair and smudged her makeup? That she LOOKED like a woman who had been roughed up? THAT’S why nothing will be done about such a tragedy if all the women who got knocked around decided to hide what they looked like after their “boyfriend/husband” treated them how those Cro-Magnon type men REALLY feel towards women.
Does anyone know if TMZ paid the two women for the photo? I’m interested to find out if this was a noble deed for battered women everywhere, or money-grubbing corrupt cops looking to make a buck.
On another note, I sure wish someone would pay me for sitting on my backside at home! That would be sweet.
I see your point, Koka, but I think any good served by leaking the photos might have been diluted by the fact that (as far as we know) she was about as willing to have the photos published as she was to be assaulted in the first place. Without the victim’s consent, going public with this kind of thing just takes one more thing out of her hands and her control, and in many cases makes her feel that much more humiliated than she was already.
Of course, that’s an issue separate from that of Rihanna not responding as strongly as she probably should have to the assault. (See previous posts on the Rihanna/Brown knockabout.)
Aleric beat me to it. Paid leave huh? Wonder if they gave them a couple of those famed IOUs.
Sorry to double post but it just occurred to me. I doubt these two leaked that pic for free. And now they’re on paid leave. Oh, that’s rich.
I don’t blame Rihanna for not wanting to show those photos publicly, or give the deets out publicly. Domestic abuse is a very scary, serious, and embarrassing issue for its victims. Shame on those cops for leaking the photos. Women everywhere should feel they can get help from their local law enforcement when they are being abused- these cops’ behavior seriously violated the trust the public has in them (or should be able to have in them anyway).
Koka, I think your comment is a bit harsh. Rihanna is not obligated to go on Oprah and wave her assault photos around for the world to see. Rihanna already chose to do the best thing for herself AND set a good example while doing it- leaving that jerk Chris Brown.
Not to defend it, but no doubt the police union has a contract that mandates paid leave at the beginning of any disciplinary action. That’s pretty standard for public employees these days, AFAIK. We had something similar in San Francisco some years back, when a city bus driver assaulted two gays for kissing on his bus. Even in SF, he didn’t get fired immediately.
Alright, I have to say this because it finally just occurred to me, but I realized what that photo of her up there looks like. She looks like she’s morphing into one of the prawns in District 9. OKAY OKAY I am done now and will promptly go to hell.
fallingstar….I have a sister who had a man beat the bejesus out of her, and until we saw the evidence pics we did not know the extent of a man’s idea that a woman is a punching bag. My sister was livid that we saw the pics, only because she did not want to acknowledge that what had been done to her was wrong. Her man “was misunderstood and had a rough childhood” was the lame excuse she kept giving for hm. Okay, I do concede that the cops leaked them most likely for cash, but without material proof of what happened to her, for all we *really* know is that maybe Chris Brown simply slapped her and left a red mark. Everyone knows there was more than a slap that happened now.
Ya’ll can think that what I said is overly harsh….after what I have seen happen to someone in my family its just reality. If some woman is convinced to not trust Brown any farther than they can pick him up and throw him after that, then the leaked pics did serve a good purpose. It is never okay to hide that sort of violence.
@Koka, agreed. I think these pictures might serve people who may have been subconsciously denying the extent of their injuries a necessary wake up.
I’m sure she’s the envy of all MLB (and minor league…heck, “all” leagues) catchers everywhere. Does Wilson or Russell make those shinguards ? I bet black is the only available color.
NINA!, I’m glad you saw what I was trying to say. I just didn’t want anyone here to think I did not sympathize with Rhianna in wanting to keep her privacy, but I am somewhat disappointed that she didn’t take opportunity to speak out and say this happened to me and don’t let it happen to you. I know not everyone wants to do that sort of thing and she was by no means obligated to do it, but its healthier mentally to do that than to act like it didn’t happen and there’s no telling how many young women who may have heard it and used it constructively to get out of bad relationships. That’s just IMHO….and certainly anyone can disagree with me on it. :^)
I do get paid for sitting on my backside at home! Telecommuting is pretty darn awesome, except when I actually have to work.
I agree, the leak was great for domestic violence awareness, however Rihanna’s privacy should be respected. These women still get pay. This kind of offense would’ve gotten me fired!
Can I get paid if I leak ON a photo Rhinoerra?
@quigonkick: Back in the cellar with you. BAD poster. BAD!
