Kanye West and Taylor Swift Share an Agent?

kanye-west-taylor-swiftDrunken Stepfather uncovered some evidence that the Kanye West/Taylor Swift showdown at the MTV Video Music Awards was a carefully orchestrated publicity stunt (site NSFW):

In believing nothing you see on television or in the entertainment industy, because nothing gets on TV or without it being run by an approval board, because there is too much money on the line, making it impossible for people to just jump on stage and do s*** like Kanye pulled, it turns out Kanye and Taylor both have the same agent.

His name is David Wirtschafter. …

We’re all such f***ing idiots and should know better than this, so remember nothing you see is real. These people are just puppets and we just drink the f***ing Kool Aid. I am usually way smarter than this. Oh well.

So are we. But if it’s true and their agent really did plan this, Taylor Swift needs to dry those tears on her guitar and get over her hurt feelings right quick because Wirtschafter just did what she pays him to do: He made her more famous.

(Finger snaps to Pastafarian for the tip.)

If this was a stunt, I do not think that she was in on it. Regardless, it was a horrible thing to do and I think she should leave her agent. She was more famous that Kayne before this happened.

There may be something to this.

Kanye’s bottle of Hennesey cognac is at the same level at the beginning of the night and the end of the night, though one photo of him handing the photo to Joe Jackson during the show seems to be slightly lower, but its hard to tell.

I knew this had to be a stunt. Because it seemed to planned. Taylor gets her wittle feelings hurt then Beyonce wins the big award and they are both triumphant. Seems to fake.

Besides this was so much better when it was Bob Dylan and the ever wonderful “Soy Bomb”. At least it was at an awards show that mattered.

  4. 4 Elle Sep 18th, 2009 at 2:35 pm

I dunno, her eyes looked pretty puffy when Beyonce called her out on stage.

I’m not saying it’s inconceivable for it to be a publicity stunt, but it did look to me like she had been crying

  5. 5 TheIrish Sep 18th, 2009 at 2:35 pm

    Totally called it.

meh, very unlikely. I don’t think even Kanye is dumb enough to willingly choose to hurt his career, his personality takes care of that well enough. Plus Taylor Swift is about one of the most genuine sweet celebrities I’ve ever seen, this wouldn’t be like her to do that.

AND if it was planned, it would have been played off by the two as a funny incident (a la Bruno/Eminem, something mutually beneficial), not something dramatic as it was.

I am not sure you can equate same agent = publicity stunt. Not that it wasn’t setup. I think MTV wanted something to happen and hit up Kanye. He, being the ass that he is, saw an oppurtunity and jumped up. I also heard on different radio stations that it was MTV who asked Beyonce to give Taylor her time. Not sure how true that is but if it is, means Beyonce knew she was going to win before she was announced.

    The whole thing is rigged?

Well that’s “reality” TV for you

It wasn’t the first thing I thought of, but after a little while I also recalled the somewhat recent Sacha Cohen – Eminem punking at where? An Award Show!, which we later learned (and not too long after) that it was planned.

Well, enough time has gone by, I think, that if it were planned (and it happened where? At an Award Show!), they would have said so by now. Like MG referred to, there’s been way too much negative energy flowing Kanye’s way, and he’s apologized (sincere or not is irrelevant in making my point), something I don’t recall Cohen doing, although I doubt he would have anyway if it had been a real punk.

Then again, stranger things have happened.

Again, I would not put Kayne past it as he is not a well liked guy, but I do not think Taylor was in on it. She really looked crestfallen and she is not that good of an actress. There are many reports saying that she was upset backstage afterwards. If this was a stunt, it only boosted Taylor up higher than she already is. Her album is huge out there while Kayne is just an idiot.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter whether it was a planned stunt or not, it had the same result. We have had more Taylor Swift and more Kanye West ssince the “incident” than ever before. There are people out there that haven’t heard either of their music but know all about them.

    There’s no bad publicity….

What is a sweet and morally solid individual like Pasta doing on Drunken Stepfather’s site?

Leave the wallowing in sleaze and filth to us peons.

Not that I’d be surprised (hell, I don’t even mind; it’s given us all something to talk about) but Swift and West are likely two of dozens. That they have mutual business partners as music stars is pretty much a given.

  13. 13 Simon Scowl Sep 18th, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Seems about as thin as her biceps. If she was faking it, she’s got a promising second career ahead of her as an actress.

Back in the day, Milli Vanilli (I know, right?) won a Grammy, then were deprived of it when it turned out that they were “singing” like Jennifer Aniston is “acting”. Sting gave an interview in which he said that the night of the Grammy awards, everyone in the room knew MV were a hoax. So whichever way this Swift/West thing goes, I won’t be surprised. Kanye’s enough of a horse’s ass to do it unbidden, but that doesn’t prove he WAS unbidden.

  15. 15 jenn Sep 18th, 2009 at 5:52 pm

My thoughts… I think MTV and West are complicit in this – Swift is not.
And that site you linked to… Hoo-boy that is some sleazy spot. My eyes, my eyes.

I can wallow with the best of them.

  17. 17 AllyKat Sep 18th, 2009 at 7:52 pm

My first thought was that it WAS a stunt when I heard about it on the news. I was less sure when I really read the details. I’m with AAW, if there was any planning, Swift wasn’t in on it. I’m not a huge fan of hers, but she never struck me as that conniving. Of course, that could be wishful thinking…

The agent thing is kinda weird. Yeah, they represent dozens, but how many of us would have guessed they had the same rep?

  18. 18 Rocko Sep 18th, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Those who think this was staged greatly underestimate the magnitude of dick Kanye West is capable of being.

Although, it’s a nice narrative… the poor little white girl… who had no idea what was going to happen. Either way, I’m for it’s real.

  19. 19 k80 Sep 18th, 2009 at 9:57 pm

I know kanye isn’t the brightest, but what possible motivation would he have to participate in this if it were a set up? Sure, any publicity is good, but he really has been getting reamed over this. If it was a set up, I’d bet that he would have said so himself by now.

  20. 20 angry army wife Sep 19th, 2009 at 11:25 am

I think that if this was staged that Kayne would have told us by now. The whole Bruno thing only made it a few days before the cat was out of the bag. I still think that Swift had no idea this was about to happen. MTV probably did and it was a sick joke. Kayne has been apologizing a lot, moreso than wifebeater Brown, so I would think he would finally admit to it being a joke. Either way, he is an idiot and I am glad that I never liked him. Would hate to have to throw away his CD’s. I do not own any Swift CD’s, but I just might start.

  21. 21 California Dave Sep 19th, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Just noticed – what’s with West’s hair? Is it now “in” to have paisley designs shaved into your head?

  22. 22 Wittney Sep 19th, 2009 at 10:18 pm

“…because nothing gets on TV or without it being run by an approval board…”

That’s not even true. That’s why it’s called “live”. Do you really think they would broadcast certain news anchors saying the stupid they say if EVERYTHING had to be screened first? I don’t think so.

  23. 23 Beige Sep 20th, 2009 at 11:08 am

I don’t know about approval boards, but isn’t/wasn’t there something about a 7-second delay, in case someone (usually Bono) drops more F-bombs? Or in case someone’s naughty bits pop out, as they seem to be wont to do at these events? Granted, even if there were such a thing in force, it’s not like 7 seconds would have enabled anyone to run out and slap a canvas love-me jacket on Kanye.

  24. 24 Chrocs Sep 21st, 2009 at 11:31 am

Don’t think it was staged, but I’d be looking for a make peace duet at the next VMAs.

  25. 25 MC Mom Sep 22nd, 2009 at 12:52 pm

I wouldn’t put it past MTV. Maybe they were worried that Lady Gaga’s bloody/hanging from a rope stunt wouldn’t generate enough buzz.

  26. 26 askew Sep 25th, 2009 at 2:09 pm

Let’s not forget about Jay Leno’s huge ratings for his new show’s debut; we all tuned in to watch Kanye apologise. Everyone wins. Nothing is real. Besides, if this were staged, coming out about it would likely ruin Kanye’s bab boy image, as people might feel that most if not all of his outbursts meant nothing.
