David Letterman Throws Out Extortion Story; Will It Float?

The story is still developing, but the big news today is that David Letterman went on the air last night and revealed that somebody tried to blackmail him for $2 million. The extortionist threatened to reveal that Letterman had several affairs with his employees, presumably while he was with longtime girlfriend and now wife Regina Lasko. The blackmailer, who is now under arrest, is a producer for CBS News who’s the boyfriend of one of Letterman’s former staffers/bedmates.

“The creepy stuff is that I have had sex with women who work on this show.”

Wow. Blackmail is a serious crime, and the extortionist deserves whatever he gets, but how bizarre is Letterman’s explanation? Apparently the audience thought it was a joke at first. The laughter and applause as he’s laying it all out are really really chill-inducing.

The best part is that Letterman thinks it’s hilarious when other people get caught in sex scandals. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at some of his public comments about the sexual activity of others!

Jeremy Piven Eating Fish Again!

pivenOur favorite mercury poisoned martyr, Jeremy Piven, is eating fish again!

Earlier this week, Piven was spotted in Chicago enjoying a nice piece of whitefish at Gibsons Steakhouse.  (Aside: Why the heck would you order Planked Whitefish when there are three Filet Mignon options on the menu?)

Back in June of course Piven made a big hoopla about being fish free after his bout with “mercury poisoning.”  He told People:

I changed all of those habits.  All of these things happen to make us better. So, you’ve got to embrace that.

Apparently 10 months is long enough to embrace a fish-free lifestyle.  He is now cured of an ailment that wasn’t real in the first place and can officially un-change his fish-eating habits.

Welcome back to fish Mr. Piven!
