PETA is just aghast that “The Jay Leno Show” has accepted McDonald’s offer of sponsorship to kick off the company’s latest Monopoly promotion, so last night the animal-rights activists staged another McNugget-centered protest at the show’s studio in Burbank.
PETA’s peeved at Leno for shilling for the fast food giant McDonald’s, which PETA claims has failed to adopt more humane chicken slaughter methods.
Leno should use his influence to “benefit the millions of frightened birds who end up as McNuggets,” PETA member Amanda Fortino tells City News Service.
Kevin Eubanks, Leno’s band leader, just happens to be a vegetarian, but no word if he’s planning to dive into the middle of the brewing controversy.
So, funny thing about Kevin Eubanks. PETA voted him Sexiest Vegetarian 2007 and simply couldn’t contain their slobber for Jay Leno’s support then:
I’m sure Leno couldn’t be happier about Eubanks’ win. He mentioned the contest several times during the past week and said that he stopped by to vote for Eubanks, noting that he wanted Kevin to win to bring honor to the Tonight Show stage. And Tonight Show viewers logged on in large numbers, pushing Eubanks ahead of his competitors. I’m not saying Eubanks wouldn’t be up there in the rankings without it, but Leno’s repeated stump speeches had to have given him an edge.
Jay Leno and McDonald’s go way back — he even worked at the burger joint in the olden days — so I don’t know why all the sudden backlash from PETA. Oh wait, of course: publicity. How silly of me to forget.

Peta pulls this crap every time they
want to show how obnoxius they can be.
Obnoxious, in case Peta don’t know the meaning: Highly objectionable or offensive; odious: obnoxious behavior, annoying or objectionable due to being a showoff or attracting undue attention to oneself: an obnoxious little brat.
Archaic. exposed or liable to harm, evil, or anything objectionable.
Obsolete. liable to punishment or censure; reprehensible.
Because, you know PETA would be sooo okay with McD’s if they adopted more humane slaughter methods. Their only objection is to the method, not the slaughter…oh wait.
People eat McNuggets because they are tasty (and probably have addictive chemicals, at least that’s my excuse), not because Jay Leno did a Monopoly promo on his show.
So, once again PeTA is outraged…but then, it’s just another day that ends with the letter Y.
I still want to be able to purchase a McCruelty for lunch.
Every time PeTA does something like this, I get the urge for a Quarter Pounder with extra everything.
What? Is Letterman taking up too many headlines?
I would rather look at Leno than Letterman anyday. At least Leno rides motorcycles.
WHile I never eat at McD’s I would side with Leno just because PETA is another ACORN like organization that needs to be looked into. I wonder why no one in Washington has every investigated all the shennanigans going on with our favorite animal friendly buddies?
I prefer Leno over Letterman, but only in the sense that I prefer poison ivy over shingles. That said, I’ma take the kids to Mickey D’s later today, just to show our support. In the battle between one ginormous corporation and one self-righteous, hypocritical bunch of asses, I vote for the one that makes fantastic McNuggets and fries while NOT trying to tell me how to live.
I’ve never had a Chicken McNugget. Just figured I’d throw that out there so everyone can look at me like I have a second head growing out of my shoulders just like they do when I tell people I haven’t turned on my cellphone in three years.
Can someone give me a jump? My Hoveround seems to have died, and I can’t reach my prune juice.
And this after they let Oprah squeeze by with her KFC promotion.
I can’t believe they are *shocked, SHOCKED* that a well known carnivore such as Leno would promote McDonald’s. Pizza and spaghetti are 2 of his favorite meals and, being Italian myself, suspect they have meat. I suppose they thought that, by giving Kevin Eubanks an honor it would somehow force Leno to jump on their bandwagon. All of us normal, non-self righteous omnivores appreciate those who do succumb to the pressure. Their superiority complex baffles me.
@Gamereg: EXACTLY.
So let that be a lesson to you BB.
