Maria Shriver Gets Called Out

September 15, 2006:

Gov. Schwarzenegger Signs Bill Requiring Drivers to Use Hands Free Devices While Talking on a Mobile Phone

Gov. Schwarzenegger signed SB 1613 by Sen. Joseph Simitian (D-Palo Alto) that would prohibit the use of a cell phone in a moving vehicle unless the driver is using a hands free device.

“The simple fact is it’s dangerous to talk on your cell phone while driving. CHP data show that cell phones are the number one cause of distracted-driving accidents,” said Gov. Schwarzenegger. “So getting people’s hands off their phones and onto their steering wheels is going to make a big difference in road safety. The ‘Hands-Free’ cell phone bill will save lives by making our roads safer. I want to thank Senator Simitian for authoring this bill and for his commitment to the safety of his fellow Californians.”

The Governator, displaying the quick, decisive leadership for which he’s become known, took to Twitter and thanked TMZ’s Harvey Levin for the heads-up:

Woo, swift action! Well, see, about that:

You’d think that between the Schwarzenegger money and the Kennedy money and all the other money, she could afford a driver.

Let this be a lesson to you, kids: Always obey the law, unless you were born into power and married into even more of it.

Forget a driver, she should be able to afford a phone made after 1998. Preferably one that’s Bluetooth-enabled.

  4. 4 Angry Army Wife Oct 14th, 2009 at 4:08 pm

It is another Kennedy of do what I say, not what I do. I found this story rather funny that the First Lady of California broke the law that he husband signed.

I’m sure he’ll give her a severe tongue lashing when he gets home tonight.

  8. 8 Christopher Oct 14th, 2009 at 7:22 pm

That is a huge phone. What is she doing…calling in air strikes with that thing?

  9. 9 Fortunate_Son Oct 14th, 2009 at 7:27 pm

Murder. Rape. Illegal cell phone usage…

Maybe they should try tax evasion.

    Worked on Al Capone.

“Forget a driver, she should be able to afford a phone made after 1998. Preferably one that’s Bluetooth-enabled.”

Actually, there’s a very good reason she probably doesn’t have a Bluetooth enabled phone. Despite the fact you see Jack Bauer using one, pretty much anyone who is connected with government shuns them (if they’re reasonably worried about security that is). You can crack into a bluetooth phone using a freaking baby monitor and listen to their conversations. Not saying she’s talking about national security or anything, but it is a concern and those phones are one major security risk.

Aside from that though, yeah, total hypocrite considering it’s her husband’s law.

It would be really IRONIC if that ’swift action’ turned out to be Arnold calling his wife on her cell phone to let her know she had been caught by TMZ not using a hands free device.

“Mahria, dawn’t do dat again! Tee Em Zee caut yoo! Yoor ehmbarrassing me!”

*10 minutes later* “Ach! Mahria! Dey caut yoo again! Schtop it!”

    *eyeshift*

Ok, so I can’t type the accent that the Governator has. But that does sound about right I think. ;)

Wonder if Schwarzenegger has an alternative punishment for Maria: “Five hundred push-ups for each infraction. Get DOWN!”

  13. 13 katie Oct 15th, 2009 at 4:40 am

ha! saw this on the news yesterday and KNEW it would end up on here :) you guys never let me down!

  14. 14 Mickey Blue Eyes Oct 15th, 2009 at 12:23 pm

Ooh! That Maria is a baaaad girl! She needs a good spanking!

zzzz…huh? Was I talking in my sleep again?

    Ricky couldn’t control Lucy.

    Arnold can’t control Maria.

How many wives *actually* listen their husbands?

I’d say it’s typical Kennedy hubris, but that is usually reserved for fixing elections and philandering and driving your car into a river.

  15. 15 Beige Oct 15th, 2009 at 1:23 pm

And raping people. Don’t be forgetting the raping people. It’s part of the Kennedy Family Triathlon. Drunk driving, election-fixing, and raping people.

  16. 16 Pastafarian Oct 15th, 2009 at 1:41 pm

You know all of those cars look kinda big. Like they might use a lot of gasoline. Doesn’t she care about the environment?

  17. 17 Swede0319 Oct 15th, 2009 at 6:01 pm

Pasta, Arnold has something like three of four hummers (the car type I mean), a private jet and a plethora of motorcycles. Do you really think he gives a rats butt about the environment?

  18. 18 California Dave Oct 15th, 2009 at 8:05 pm

Swede – for all we know, he has those other kinds of Hummers, too.

  19. 19 Beige Oct 15th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

EW EW EW EW EW. I’m thinking of happy puppies, frolicking with old nuns in a sunny meadow.

  20. 20 angry army wife Oct 15th, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Arnold actually had a few of his cars fitted so that they were more environmentally friendly. Still hummers, just a new, kindler, gentler hummer.
