Oprah Stands Up for Victims of Domestic Abuse, Except When She Doesn’t

Oprah_BeBe_BeBe_OprahA couple of months ago, Oprah gave moronic woman-beater Chris Brown a bloody nose. (Not literally, unfortunately.) But now she’s taking heat for having an alleged wife-beater on her show.

According to TMZ:

The man in question is gospel singer BeBe Winans — who is accused of shoving his ex-wife Debra Winans to the ground in front of their kids back in February. BeBe was on “Oprah” on Friday to pimp out his new gospel CD — his domestic violence charge is pending until another court hearing next year.

Debra tells TMZ she’s “hurt by Oprah’s decision to have BeBe on the show” — especially after she refused to have Chris Brown on her show in the wake of the Rihanna beating.

Here’s more background on the story from WSMV-TV in Nashville, TN:

Debra Winans said her former husband BeBe Winans, 46, pushed her to the ground in front of their children. The two were married for 16 years before divorcing in 2003.

The alleged assault happened when BeBe Winans showed up at his ex-wife’s Nashville home and the two began arguing about custody issues. Debra and BeBe Winans have a 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son.

According to an affidavit, what started out as a “verbal altercation” turned into assault when Debra Winans was “pushed to the ground.”

It’s not as clear-cut a case as Chris Brown and Rihanna, I suppose. And certainly not as high-profile. But still, can Oprah really claim she didn’t know about it? How does she justify this?

After all, she did a show on domestic abuse that was inspired by Rihanna’s beating, and her office put out this statement when Brown whined that it was a “slap in the face” after all he’d done for her (I did mention he’s a moron, right?):

“Oprah is very appreciative that Chris Brown performed at her school but she takes domestic abuse very seriously. She hopes he gets the counseling he needs.”

If you take domestic abuse very seriously, why would you help BeBe Winans sell records when he’s been charged with domestic abuse?

I asked my man Ike Turner. He doesn’t get it either, but he wants in.

Oprah is omnipotent. I saw her halfass opinion of crappy corn dogs at the Texas State Fair. She’s no different that David Letterman except she’s worth over a billion dollars.

I’ve got a bowel movement scheduled for tomorrow. I’m more excited about that than what this old hag has to say.

Look, it’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Sorry to be so low brow, but it’s Halloween after all and Oprah’s dress got me in a festive spirit. *snickers*

    Scheduled?

I thought she was going as a hot water bottle.

When are we going to get it? Money talks anything else walks. Show business is crooked, hypocritical, and plain ugly. Judge not, but keep in mind, the man is working, how else will he pay child support if he’s not given the opportunity to take care of his responsibilties. Every one that’s been on her show and others like it have a skeleton in their closet. NO perfect people in the world, and Chris was wrong and so is Bebe, but whose not wrong in this God-forsaken world?

Well BeBe is okay to have on her show because his violence did not garner as much publicity and after all he is singing about Jesus, God and Stuff.

@ Simon- I see what you’re saying now. The computer I was on this morning made her dress appear more orange. The computer I’m on now makes it look much more salmon.

And now for something completley different…

WH David Plouffe admits they failed to vette Obama properly:

“Plouffe writes, “ …we had done zero research on our own candidate beyond a small and incomplete package from the 2004 Senate race. With this lapse, we were violating a central rule of politics – know more about yourself than your opponents and the media do. Since we had not scrubbed every quote, vote, speech, and donor of Obama’s, we knew we’d be getting questions we couldn’t foresee, unless he remembered each incident and vote precisely, we’d be scrambling to mount a defense.”

    …but they did vette Oprah.

“[Oprah’s] numbers among noncore caucus-goers and primary voters in the early states were even higher than among the general population. We tested her thoroughly before deploying her. We thought some high-profile campaigning with Oprah could reach some of these voters in a more compelling way than the traditional messengers and methods would.”

…And John Edwards was angling to become Obama’s or Hillary’s Vice President up until May 14, 2008 when he endorsed Obama.

    5) Edwards is as craven as you think:

Sometime after the South Carolina debate Plouffe got a call from a senior Edwards Advisor who said Edwards was willing to announce the end of his campaign and join forces with Obama to defeat Clinton. When Plouffe asked if he could raise this with Obama the Edwards advisor said, “Yes.…Just to be clear we’re going to talk to the Clinton people too. That’s not where John’s heart is, but he is at the point of maximum leverage now.”

So why is it only a problem with Chris Brown?

  11. 11 Habanada Nov 1st, 2009 at 10:54 am

Well, Simon, everyone knows that hip-hop is more important than gospel music. And the BeBe Winans case is so . . . so vague . . . I mean, “pushed down”–that could mean any number of things! Like . . . oh, I don’t know, lots of non-abusive stuff. Just, lots of stuff. You know? Anyway, quit questioning Oprah. You’ll get . . . smoten by holy Oprah flames from heaven . . . or whatever it is that makes people afraid to question her. Why does anyone listen to this woman? I mean, really.

  12. 12 fallingstar Nov 1st, 2009 at 11:41 am

@ unattached- So because he needs to pay child support, Oprah should let him on her show so he can be famous and sell millions of records? He’s scum and if he really is guilty of abuse to his wife, let him go work at McD’s to pay his child support, like thousands of Americans do anyway.

  13. 13 Mister Snitch Nov 1st, 2009 at 1:52 pm

“smoten by holy Oprah flames from heaven”
I thought the flames came from the other place. With Oprah in that red getup, all she needs is a pitchfork and horns. And maybe some heavenly flames as a backdrop.

With all the money the hot water bottle has you would think she would have a better stylist.

I can see Oprah turning on BeBe like she did on that dude with the fake autobiography once the case gains more fame or someone calls her out on this.

I want to send in a tip, but I am afraid that the next mug we see on here is either Michael Lohan or Jon Gosselin. Blech!

Y’all just don’t seem to realize that it’s OK to push women around(or down) if it’s done in a biblical, religious sort of way.
