If you don’t know who Dominique Swain is, don’t worry. There’s no real reason you should. Primarily she’s known for two things: 1) Starring in a terrible remake of Lolita in 1997, and 2) Getting naked for PETA. NSFW:
She was ”the youngest star ever to pose au naturel for PETA’s anti-fur campaign,” which seemed to be a point of pride for some reason. Here are the words somebody put in her mouth:
“Cruelty to animals is wrong,” said Swain. “If all I have to do is stand in front of a blackboard naked to make people think about the cruelty that animals go through to make a fur coat, I’m perfectly willing. I’m baring my skin to save animals’ skins!”
A cursory search of Google Images indicates that she hardly needs a reason to bare her skin. It seems to be her only discernible talent (not that it’s a bad one to have). But that’s why she put her goods on display that time. Because she just loves cuddly little animals.
Of course, that was all the way back in 2001. What’s she up to these days? According to the Pop Tarts feature at FOXNews.com:
Pop Tarts spies spotted the 29-year-old actress at an animal shelter in Malibu over the weekend, accompanied by her father and a box of eight-week-old, half cocker spaniel puppies that her dog had.
“She was really strung out and just wanted to dump the puppies there, they had never even been to a vet,” an eyewitness tells Tarts. “She was told that it was crucial that they had their shots at four and eight weeks, and they had to be kept away from the other shelter dogs.”
According to the witness, the shelter volunteers asked if Swain could make a donation so the required vaccinations could be performed, otherwise the volunteers at the non profit shelter would have to pay for them.
“She said she had no money, despite [driving in] in her BMW,” the eyewitness said. “She was really rude. Eventually she said she would make a small donation, but just left the pups there and drove off.”
Hey, at least she didn’t kill them and discard their cute little corpses in a dumpster behind a grocery store.
Getting naked for PETA is a big win for everybody. For PETA and whichever minor celebrity is showing what they’ve got, it’s great publicity. For the rest of us, it’s a chance to see an attractive woman (or occasionally an ugly, drunken circus freak) naked. But the idea that it says anything about the treatment of animals is ridiculous. Obviously, it’s a lot easier to stand in front of a blackboard with your ass hanging out than it is to take responsibility for your own actions.
Which isn’t to say that PETA should stop the campaign! Can’t wait for Katy Perry to try to extend her 15 minutes…

Both my cats are rescues – one from a shelter and one from a neighborhood car.
Shelters need all the help they can get. And I’m sure they take credit cards for donations. Swain could’ve used one of those – surely she had one.
Oh wait, she was “strung out”. Well, that makes everything all right then, doesn’t it?
Now that is some good hypocrisy.
Someone should adopt those puppies, make them into a really nice pair of shoes and sell them on eBay.

I have never, ever heard of this person. And I really wish I hadn’t. What a pathetic piece of work. PETA really should vet their spokes models better. But then we wouldn’t enjoy PETA so much.
Who? Regardless of her “celebrity” status, what she did was horrible. Dumping puppies off and then refuse to help pay for them. People like this make me really mad.
I can almost guarantee they took credit cards. When I adopted a rescue dog, I paid for his heartworm treatment (performed by said shelter – thankfully, at a very discounted price) with an Amex. And I know DOCTORS who don’t take Amex, for crying out loud. The only way it could’ve been more likely they wouldn’t take my card is if I had a Discover or was trying to pay with a Victoria’s Secret account.
That’s probably the most depressing thing I have read all day. What an asshole move on her part. Poor puppehs.
I wish I had been that shelter volunteer. I would have smacked her upside her ungrateful, disgusting, hypocritical little head. Or at least thrown something at her back while she was walking out the door. Geez. Sometimes the hypocrisy on here is funny, or sometimes it is really really bad and makes any sane person mad. Why the beep didn’t she get her dog fixed like a normal person?? Oh I get it, she’s an entitled ’special’ person who’s above all that hard stuff.
Hey at least she’s not famous so I don’t have to look at her ever again, and get angry all over again!
But guys, it’s not FUR!!!. They’re just puppies. Puppies don’t have fur. Oh, wait, never mind. It’s PETA she posed for. She should have just found a dumpster.
SPAY YOUR DOG, BITCH. Surely you can afford the roughly hundred bucks it would probably cost to put a cocker spaniel under anesthesia?!
That picture is as fake as her concern for animals. No one thinks about animals when they see those ads. If you’re male, you’re fantasizing, if you’re female, you’re looking to see how Photoshopped the pic is. If she wants to do something to help animals, she should start by getting her dog fixed and making a massive donation to the shelter she dumped puppies at.
Let’s not insult the dogs. A bitch would have taken care of those puppies.
CA Dave- I know, my baby kitteh is from a local shelter too. It’s us “little guys” that make the MOST difference in these animals’ lives- the ones who adopt and the ones who volunteer at shelters- NOT some no-name skank doing a typical petard publicity stunt.
