Al Gore Is as Awesome at Math as He Is at Science

I’m going to start calling him Dysfunction Al. He’s a nervous-making stiff even under the best of circumstances, and when you confront him with the end of all his dreams, you have to wipe the flopsweat off the lens:

“These are private e-mails, more than 10 years old…” He made the same claim in a Slate interview today, but they didn’t call him on it like this CNN guy did.

Putting aside the fact that these “private” e-mails are work product from a publicly funded institution, and are evidence that the science is far from settled, they’re not all 10 years old. They do span the last 13 years, but the most recent e-mail is from just last month. They’re evidence of an ongoing effort to hide and manipulate the data, and to suppress dissent. It’s been going on for a long time, and they’re still trying to get away with it. Al’s doing it right here.

There’s no possible way he can admit any of that, of course. His financial and psychological investment in this crap is way too deep for him to acknowledge such, ahem, inconvenient truths. The only way to deal with such a massive blow to his ego is to just bull through it. Pretend it’s not happening. He is, to borrow a phrase, a Climategate denier.

He used to really irritate me, but now he just makes me sad.

No, I guess it’s both.

My whole problem with Climategate doesn’t hinge on the science. It’s because supposedly objective scientists were trying to stifle actual research. Come on, guys, grow up. So what if someone proves something you did as wrong. Isn’t science all about figuring out what is true and how things work? Or am I too optimistic?

Sometimes I lie awake at night and wonder “When did the scientific method change?” It used to be: create a hypothesis, test hypothesis, reform hypothesis to fit data.
Now it’s: create hypothesis, test hypothesis, throw out data that doesn’t support hypothesis and then brag about how great you are and you knew the answer to your hypothesis all along.

I then drift off blissfully realizing it never made it above 0 degrees farenheit yesterday. Not in my part of Montana anyways.

Personally, Al Gore just creeps me out. Looking at him is an excellent appetite suppressant. He makes me nauseous. But that’s a personal issue.

What upsets me is how people are watching this man flounder his way through pathetic attempts at rationalization and blame-shifting and not seeing what’s really happening here: They’ve been convinced to not just spend money on, but truly invest in something that they’ve been told is a sure bet, without doing their own actually, fact-finding homework. It’s downright saddening to watch. And if you talk to Greenies, like my neighbor, they get all red in the face trying to come up with examples that are irrefutable.

Me: “It’s really cold in Washington right now. Been getting colder every winter.” (It has, it seems).

My Neighbor: “That’s global warming for you.”

    Me: “Uh- What?”

And then my neighbor tries to make some rationalization as to why global warming is making it universally colder in the north. I eventually walk away shaking my head, wondering if I can ever get those particular brain cells back…

I have the opposite reaction to Simon’s. Al Gore used to make me laugh, by dint of his sheer lack of relevance. Now, the sight of him evokes a visceral, hate-driven need to hit him with a Humvee, and then back up and hit him again, and then go shoot several polar bears. This fu**tard is doing everything he can to screw with our lives, people. He is basing his life and livelihood on assisting the left in stripping us of every right, every freedom they can think to grab. And no, I’m not one of those mythic greedy Americans who think it’s a God-given right to rape Mother Nature. Conservation is great. It’s right. IT IS A CHOICE, DAMMIT. It is not something we need to be forced to do, and ESPECIALLY NOT BY A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITICAL, DOUBLE-DEALING ASSHOLES LIKE AL GORE, BARACK OBAMA, AND THE UN. If these dipshits want to live in Frontier House, that’s lovely for them. I’ll send ‘em a quilt. But you, and I, and our kids, have the right to refuse a berth in the hayloft.

Well, I just did a study with a whole bunch of people I know. We are all in agreement that Algore is 100% batshit. He is also a corrupt, hypocritical, stupid, lying POS.

Of course, there was 1 or 2 people that raised some questions, but we deemed their dissent unreliable and not pertinent to the discussion, so I called them all names, and we chased them from the room. We will continue to ignore them….seems to work work Al and his team of douchebags!

Oh yeah, AL…the environmental-nazis were not screaming we needed to stop nuclear power dead in its tracks years ago because it was expensive. NONE of them cared about spending money, especially tax dollars. They claimed it was unsafe, unreliable, and we would all be blown up, and be glowing green at midnight. That there was no looming energy crisis that couldn’t be taken care of if we just used less, and shut off the lights. Yeah….that worked out real well, didn’t it?

They were so right back then, and now I am supposed to just “trust them” this time around, right?
No thanks…I am going to gas a baby seal by locking into a garage with my gas guzzling 1986 Lincoln Town Car running. Then I can piss off an environmentalist AND a PETArd! Woo-hoo!

One of the more amusing stories my boyfriend has told me about nuclear engineering:

His professor, when questioned about nuclear waste once, told the class “As long as it were stored in a proper container and buried maybe 20 feet underground, it would be perfectly safe to build a playground over it. I’d let my kids play there.”

And now every time I pass a playground, I secretly think “boy, this would be an excellent place to store nuclear waste!”

Hahaha! And yet, Harry Reid won’t let the country bury nuclear waste deep in Yucca Mountain in the middle of nowhere. Cause it’s safer to just leave the spent rods at the nuclear plants for an indefinite period.

Wednesday’s WashPo had a center cover story about how Aussies are denying climate change despite the fires and droughts of the last decade. Cause THAT has nothing to do with other practices, like land and water management, or the fact that a large portion of that continent is somewhat arid, if not outright desert. Also unrelated are the million plus camels who devastate the vegetation and land as an invasive species. Shame on the Aussies for not buying into AGW! This “story” was more important than the attempted shooting of a math professor at a local community college DURING class. On Tuesday. Guy shot a rifle twice at a school, and the story goes under the fold in favor of an opinionated pseudoscientific article masquerading as news.

Also: Phoenix got a blizzard and it is 40 degrees Fahrenheit in LA. Warming, my Aunt Fanny.

“…I can’t answer that…” Well thank you Mr. Bore for finally admitting that.

Having worked with scientists for about 25 years (myself being a mere engineering-tech) I know that some of them would rather die than admit that their prized baby theory was wrong. I’ve seen them fudge data to keep their mythology going without a flinch of conscience. And if management has some reason or need (nefarious or otherwise, but mostly after already spending money on the idea) to support their claims, they will back up the lie as far as necessary, even to the extent of spending tens of thousands more of assigned capital dollars on it in the process. In addition, if you dare to try to prove them wrong, your job and reputation will be in serious jeopardy. Scary but true.

As was said here, some researchers will do or say anything to get their project funded. And then you’ve got the “legal” junk scientist scam artists who do it for the money and fame alone. Science is like any other genre, and can be just as easily corrupted unfortunately, as much as one would like to believe that logic and intelligence would rule over deceit. At least that’s what I naively believed before I learned otherwise. :-(

Props to CNN for not throwing him a complete softball. Maybe I’ll watch some TV again.

Interviewer had a great point that environmentalists were the primary cause of premature death for nuclear power in the US. “No Nukes” was almost as ubiquitous a handmade sign of the early 70′s as the Peace symbol.

Nuclear power was largely shut down by liberal activists who campaigned since the 1970′s and danced on the graves of Chernobyl and Three Mile Island victims.

    @Fortunate_Son

I only bring this up because my boyfriend is so picky about it. (It’s not something I would have known either.) There were no deaths or even serious injuries at Three Mile Island. There was a problem, and people overrode the machines’ warning systems, resulting in a meltdown. And despite the fact that nobody was even remotely harmed (and the fact that the meltdown was a result of human error), it halted nuclear power development in the US for decades.

Owitzia: Three mile island is actually an example of how safe nuclear power was(its even safer with modern technology), multiple violation of safety procedures, poor training, and multiple mechanical failures caused basically the worst outcome to happen, and NO ONE died, it didn’t blowup, there was no statistical increase in cancer. The other reactor on three mile island is still in use, that’s how dangerous the place is, people are still working there today.

I’m glad you guys understand the meaning of the emails more so than the people who actually wrote them, or the non affiliated scientist who have reviewed them and stated that there is nothing damning or incriminating in them once put in context. And if most of you did do a climate study you would go into it specifically trying to prove your own points of view rather than following the evidence, you know, exactly what you are accusing every climate scientist who has ever processed data in the modern world of doing. Some of you don’t even understand the difference between seasonal temperatures and worldwide climate. Way to buy into the Republicorprate message.

I have to wonder if he is delusional and simply believes that everything he says is true by virtue of the fact that he said it.

What is fascinating about all this is it really shows how messed up our education and information systems are. As for education, none of what is presented as evidence would have been acceptable as proof in my third grade science class. Heck, most of it proves just the opposite of what is claimed. As for information, people actually believe that big business is fighting against Reverend Gore and the Global Warming Choir. Gore is big business, estimates are he’s made over $1,000,000,000 of of his evangelism. He’s backed up by some of the biggest companies on the planet, GE is one of the major ones, and they stand to make record profits while they ignore actual polution in favor of this game with CO2.

“Whereas with the government, you can take it or… take it.”

In a sense you are right, but not for the reason you think. The Government is made up of the people we elect, i.e. we have some power to hold them accountable. Outside of the government acting on our behalf, the only option we have against major corporations is filing lawsuits, and an individual going up against a Corporation with an endless supply of money and lawyers (and influence for that matter) who can appeal any ruling far beyond the means that the average individual in this country has available.

Where you are right is the fact proven time and time again on both sides of the isle. We do have to “take it or take it,” which is not so bad in the sense of say being forced to wear seat belts in a vehicle, but a terrible prospect when the people we elect are looking out for their own pockets, and thus Big Business rather than the people they represent. This is not a partisan issue. I imagine we disagree vastly on how the Government should watch out for the people, but most of the time, Big Business has way too much self serving influence for the American people to come out on top.

And by the way, my “bubble” feels neither comfortable or safe as I recognize that I am(like most of us) just another replaceable gear in the giant corporate debt machine.

BTW, I recommend that anyone reading my post see the documentary, “The Corporation.” It’s about three hours long, but a real eye opener. The choice is yours.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. People like you infuriate me. People like YOU are the ones that lack any sort of understanding of ETHICS in the scientific method. My husband and I are both doing research right now that may or may not come to any sort of fruition. Our jobs are NOT to take the data we’ve collected and SKEW it to fit OUR needs. Our jobs are to sort through our data and see if what we’re doing actually works or not. If our research has all been done for nothing, it’s disappointing, and it feels bad, but we NEVER LIE to get the answers we want. We go back to the drawing board to try a new method that will lead to the TRUTH.

Actually, I kind of am. It would save me the hassle of doing actual work. Heck, I’m going to be a doctor in just over a year and now I’m finding out I could make tons more money and all I have to do is lie. I really should have looked better at my career plan in high school… The sad thing is though, that because of this, there’s probably going to be more kids wanting to grow up thinking science means making up numbers to make people happy and getting paid in big ol’ sacks with dollar signs on them instead wanting to be doctors or astronauts or pastry chefs. Not long ago one of my friends just about to finish undergrad was looking for job suggestions. Namely, he wanted something where he wouldn’t have to accomplish anything, and could just mooch off of people. I suggested being either a pan-handler or, more appropriately, a lawyer. But if he really wanted to meet those requirements, he should get into the current climatology job market. After all, from high school together I already know he’s great at manipulating data to get the results we want. He posited that he’d perhaps need a PhD for that though, but hey, it’s not like any of the people making the most money off of it do either.

From the article at the above link:

“In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”….

….“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.”

I like that Gore is representing a ballpark figure from a conversation several years ago as “fresh”. Maybe the real problem is that Gore doesn’t understand words.

Wow. The ignorance of the comments is mind boggling. Take a science class or two, people and stop letting your political ideologies blind you to the scientific process and the results that years of research has yielded.

See, the thing is? NO. There is this thing called “the Internet”, and via the Internet, we all have learned about these e-mails exchanged among a whole bunch of bought-and-paid-for people who really were blinded by their political ideologies, and who subsequently lied about the “results that years of research” had yielded.

In short, get bent. And then do some reading other than HuffPo.

It’s really too bad ignorance isn’t painful. You are too stupid to read his book.
The only thing you can do is quote something written by Exxon-Mobile or FAUX NEWS!
NOAA has said it has been the hottest oceanic and atmospheric temp. since they have been recording. They are not political nor is NASA.
Look outside at what you and your children are breathing.
It doesn’t matter what is causing it! We need to be at 350 PPM CO2 for this planet to survive, we are now at 390.04 PPM.
    What will you do?
I would like to see a PLAY BY DAY. If all states could cut their games, ALL games by 50% think how it would reduce the tons of Carbon dumping into our atmosphere.
If we can lower the demand, maybe we can alter the types of energy sources.
ROME IS BURNING! Will you fiddle and blast AL GORE?
    130 today in Iraq.
Actually Rome isn’t burning but a lot of Russia is. How warm is it where you live?
