Tiger Woods Cut a Deal With the National Enquirer in 2007

tiger-woods-finger-pointingA month ago it would have been unthinkable, but Tiger Woods and Michael Vick now have two things in common: problems with bitches who won’t stay quiet, and too much pride to admit to their mistakes in time to save their public images.

In 2007, Woods had some PR advice for Vick as the dogfighting scandal broke:

“If you made that big a mistake, you’ve got to come out and just be contrite, be honest and just tell the public that ‘I was wrong.’

“Waiting a long time got a lot of people polarized. … If he would have come out earlier, he would’ve diffused a little more of it.”

In case you missed it, The Wall Street Journal this weekend ran an explosive story that pretty much torpedoes Tiger’s whole stance on why you should cop to your failures quickly to save your image. Adultery supersleuths The National Enquirer knew about Tiger Woods’ unending line-up of blonde starf-ckers two years ago, but the tabloid quashed the story when he agreed to an exclusive interview with its sister publication, Men’s Fitness:

Mr. Woods had cut an unusual deal with American Media Inc., the owner of both Men’s Fitness magazine and the National Enquirer tabloid newspaper. Mr. Woods agreed to the cover shot and photo spread in Men’s Fitness, whose circulation of about 700,000 per issue is less than half of Golf Digest’s nearly 1.7 million, in return for the National Enquirer squelching a story and photographs purportedly showing Mr. Woods in a liaison with a woman who wasn’t his wife, according to people directly involved in the arrangement.

Pardon the pun, but Tiger got off easy in 2007.

All this from getting in his Cadillac in the middle of the night? Goodness man, I’m beginning to think my parents were right about never driving at night. It’s dangerous.

  2. 2 Jannah Dec 21st, 2009 at 3:52 pm

    LOL.

But seriously, I’m kind of afraid of what TW might do to himself, not being able to face the public with this kind of huge scandal. Who’d want to?! I mean, people like the Kennedys have always had the balls to bounce back after making errors like this all the time without an apparent flinch, but I don’t know if TW’s got it in him to be able to be the kind of person, in public, who would do such things and be able to live with that image of himself. If he believed the hype about himself and can’t face losing his image and the fallout that’s going to come with it for the next year or so, who knows if he’s equipt to handle all that mentally. Someone should probably be watching him very carefully, and not allow him to be alone for a while. I’m just saying…..

    He needs some Dr.Drew.

Seriously? He should have kept his mouth shut. Everyone knows people can’t keep secrets and his secret(All 14 of them) would have been made public sooner or later.

I mean, people like the Kennedys have always had the balls to bounce back after making errors like this all the time without an apparent flinch…

I just love you to death, but holding up the Kennedys as an example of anything but a tribe of megalomaniacal, hypocritical, gin-soaked, rape-and-murder-addicted, hubris-addled assholes just strikes me as wrong. OTOH, kudoes for the “balls” reference. Those, they’ve got in abundance, especially the women.

  5. 5 Mack Hall Dec 21st, 2009 at 7:47 pm

Hey, it’s not as if Tiger is a United States senator, okay?

  6. 6 Jannah Dec 21st, 2009 at 10:57 pm

    LOL, Beige and Mack. X-D

I just meant that they manage to come out smelling like roses always (and get re-re-re-elected!) just for the fact that they have the gall to hold their heads up through a scandal as if they’ve done nothing…like, drown a girl, and stuff like that. So if TW only has the thinnest of skin as it seems, he is’t going to make it maybe. He’s got to get a grip on himself here, he can’t stay hidden forever. On the other hand, he could just be in hiding while his handlers get his case and excuses all slicked up for prime time…and Oprah.

It’s not his MOUTH he needs to keep closed, it’s his fly.

I agree, Jannah. Tiger’s such a pussy (sorry), he doesn’t seem like the type to stick up for his actions, and try to repair his image. No Kennedy-esque “yeah I murdered a girl so what’s your point??” ‘tude here. He appears to be taking all the hatred being spewed at him; hopefully the nasty public comments won’t make him suicidal. He’s an a** but he doesn’t deserve to die.

    Beige,

I’ve never read a more perfect account of the Kennedy family!!!

I don’t agree that Woods’ or Vicks’ transgressions can accurately be described as ‘mistakes’. A ‘mistake’ can be erased with a pencil eraser.

These are very clearly lifestyles for them (and many others, as we have seen) and to label actions that stem from character flaws or from real evil as ‘mistakes’ is to diminish the gravity of the problem of people living like savages.

Just wait. They will start to label him a victim since his dad cheated on his mom and that he has a illness. Sexual obession or some bullshit like that. God forbid that he just does not come out and come clean. 14 girls Tiger, really?

The more he stays silent the louder this story will get.

  12. 12 Beige Dec 22nd, 2009 at 10:10 am

True, that. Terming habitual adultery a “mistake” is akin to describing serial murder as something that “happened”. Acne happens. Tornadoes happen. This sh!t is PERPETRATED.

  13. 13 LN Dec 22nd, 2009 at 10:35 am

You know if you look at all TW’s mistakes, he really does have the potential to be a fine US Senator.

  14. 14 jenn Dec 22nd, 2009 at 11:31 am

You are right on the money Beige. A lot of planning went into Tiger’s liaisons. This stuff did not just happen. Tiger is hardly a victim. I read somewhere – might have been the NY Post – that Tiger’s dad cheated on his wife. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  15. 15 Ronin Dec 22nd, 2009 at 3:30 pm

I think he should do an AXE BODY SPRAY commercial and just come out & say ” Yeah, I like to *uck chicks, I am the best golfer on the planet & a billionaire: you got a problem with that?”

and then follow it up with ” If you don’t have a problem with that & like getting your hair pulled go to my website *ucktiger.com for more information”

  16. 16 TheIrish Dec 22nd, 2009 at 4:06 pm

The only reason this broke out as big as it did is because he is a golf player, the “gentleman’s sport.” Golfers aren’t suppose to act like this, although pretty much every other type of athlete does and the media says very little about it.

  17. 17 D--- Dec 22nd, 2009 at 6:00 pm

Well I think you are all being unfair…I mean he could of been running to the bathroom naked in his hotel room, tripped, fell on some stalker lady fan that lay naked on the floor and then his penis accidently penetrated her vejayjay. See not his fault; he is the victim; don’t judge, you don’t know, it could of happened like that all 14 times.

  18. 18 blueblue Dec 22nd, 2009 at 6:49 pm

He’s certainly no victim. Last I heard, nobody forced him to cheat. He never lost his free will. He made these choices. It didn’t just “happen.”

  19. 19 Ronin Dec 22nd, 2009 at 9:53 pm

But at least none of these women were half his age and interning with the PGA. I mean he could have lied under oath about it or something. I guess what he did was worse, the way so many people are piling on. I can think of another high profile married guy with a list of women who said they were with him; but everyone defended THAT guy. hmmm can’t remember what the difference was….

  20. 20 Catharine Dec 23rd, 2009 at 12:08 am

Ok, I stand corrected and no longer feel any iota concern for him. Apparently his mistress-Rachel what’s her face- moved down to Florida to ’spend some time with her mom over Christmas’. Conviently only a few miles away from Tiger’s pad. Good lord, how dumb does he think we are??
Oh well, I guess I am grateful he’s not playing the “it’s a medical condition” card. That would be even worse.

  21. 21 The Oversneer Dec 23rd, 2009 at 1:27 am

    I’m just saying –

  22. 22 angry army wife Dec 23rd, 2009 at 10:17 am

CAtharine – not a few miles away but 500 feet away from where he has been staying on his yacht. Also, there are reports that Tiger is still talking to this mistress and seeing her. I hope for the kids sake that Elin gets a big settlement and does move away. Serves him right for taking for granted what he had. I read yesterday where he thought these were just “perks” for him. The more I read about him, the more creeped out I get. Reminds me a lot like Clinton. What “is” sex anyways?

    On a side note:

Men’s Fitness, whose circulation of about 700,000 per issue is less than half of Golf Digest’s nearly 1.7 million

Wow, I’m glad they explained that one. Usually I have to ask an Asian person to help me do math that hard.
