Domestic-Violence Crusader Mary J. Blige Slugs Husband

mary-j-bligeMary J. Blige has cranked out another hit, but this time it seems like a slight overreaction:

Mary J. Blige punched husband Kendu Isaacs in the face at her record release party at club M2 Tuesday night. The singer slugged Isaacs, drawing blood, after she thought he was flirting with a waitress. “She turned to him and was screaming, ‘You’re not going to ruin my night,’ ” our witness says. “They got up in each other’s faces before someone tried to separate them, at which point she shoved the guy aside, pulled back and popped [Isaacs] in the face.” The source said Blige, Isaacs and their entourage were whisked through a door to the attached club Pink, which was closed. Our witness relates, “She was yelling at him, ‘What are you gonna do, Chris Brown me?’ Four of her bodyguards and two of the club’s kept them apart.” Isaacs was kicked out. Blige went to the bathroom to fix her hair and makeup, but soon fled, creating an uncomfortable scene for partygoers Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Busta Rhymes.

That must have been especially awkward for Jay-Z, considering the way he handled Chris Brown after he attacked Rihanna last winter. No word yet whether MJB will receive the same treatment.

But didn’t Mary J. Blige just open a domestic-violence shelter in New York last month? Why yes, yes she did:

MJB’s organization recently teamed up with Gucci creative director Frida Giannini and several New York-based organizations to fund the opening of the Mary J. Blige Center for Women, based in Yonkers.

The singer was on hand to open the facility on Thursday.

She tells CNN: “All age ranges will be able to come to this center. Women from all walks of life, not just women from poverty-stricken areas. Whatever it is, they’ll be able to come here. There are gonna be psychologists here, doctors here, day care centers here. Anything that you need or they need to be able to better themselves is here for them.”

The Grammy Award winner says she is delighted to use her fame for a good cause: “That’s why I think as celebrities we’re given this job. We’re not given this job to just hold onto this stuff and die with it. We’re given this job to be able to touch someone and say, ‘me, too,’ because they look up to us and look to us for help and guidance and want to be able to relate to us.”

I don’t think “we’re given this job to be able to touch someone” means punching them in the face during a jealous rage. Keep your fists in your pockets, woman.

They kicked HIM out?! And I love how she went to the bathroom to fix her hair, and make-up like a true psychopath. For some reason it makes me think of “Stripes” when Sgt. Hulka punches Bill Murray in the stomach and then walks over to the mirror to put his hat back on. I smiled, and laughed (at them) through that whole article.

By the way I’d be uncomfortable around “Busta Rhymes” too.

  3. 3 Aleric Dec 24th, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Political Correctness. I am sure she was simply defending herself from her husband and only tried to wipe something off his face with her fist.

Who wants to bet she is never charged with anything even though it happened in public with a thousand witnesses?

“What are you going to do, Chris Brown me?” I’d say she lead the way by Chris Brown-ing him. Oh, well, at least he didn’t Mary J. Blige her. And by that I mean over-sing until her ears started bleeding and she wanted to kill herself.

Whoops. Methinks Dr.Drew’s next show should be “Celebrity Abuse Addiction Rehab”. They would have to form a line around the clinic to get in, sheesh.

I always wonder what kind of person resorts to hitting during an argument. Like, why do they ever think it’s a good idea? It seems so strange to me that someone out there thinks it’s a good solution.

Somewhere in all this I’m pretty sure there’s a joke about celebrity domestic abuse in 2009 and ‘clubs’. But it’s Christmas Eve and don’t expect me to go looking for it.

SHe didn’t just punch him; she pulled someone else out of the way SO THAT she could then punch him. So I’m sure this will all turn out to be a “heat of the moment” thing.

And I’m so glad to see that women of all ages will be welcome at that shelter. Because as Blige demonstrates, violence is only perpetrated by men. Nasty hypocritical bitch.

    Merry Christmas, y’all.

funny, I didn’t hear Entertainment Tonight, The Insider & Access Hollywood going on the offensive against MJB and starting polls asking if Isaacs should divorce her and get half her money. Of course, they are talking about how Elin Nordegren deserves half of Tiger Woods estate for cheating on her even with the appearance of some pretty extreme violence on Elin’s part (rage at the situation is, obviously, understandable – physically attacking him and chasing a him in moving car carrying a golf club was dangerous an inexcusable if that’s what she did).

As a woman I find this double standard reprehensible.

  14. 14 mirellarenee Dec 25th, 2009 at 3:21 pm

The saddest part of all of this is that MJB was the recipient of domestic violence for a long time in previous relationships. Either she did not learn anything from those situations or she simply learned the wrong things from the perpetrators.

  15. 15 Tom Dec 25th, 2009 at 8:00 pm

This woman is a domestic violence perpetrator and should get the same sentence as Chris Brown – six months forced labor. Of course we all know that this ain’t gonna happen: domestic violence has been hijacked by man-hating feminist scum and is only used as a weapon against men – it’s a political tool for them! Who cares that 50% or more of domestic violence victims are men, or that over 30% of hospital visits related to DV are from men (look it up if you don’t know that!)?

My husband was reading this story over my shoulder, and we both had pretty much the same reaction: The pendulum is going to start swinging back the other way, and hard. This kind of brutality in the name of feminism does NOT serve women, or feminism, or children. It serves hateful radicals. And nobody has unlimited tolerance for it. Sooner or later, probably sooner than we think, there is going to be a backlash the likes of which c**ts like MJB can’t imagine.

Count me in as another woman that does not approve of Mary J. Blige’s actions. One thing I’ve noticed that’s sad is when it comes to men being victims of abuse, it’s some kind of joke. It’s like these strictly defined gender roles we set for ourselves for years have come around and bit us in the ass.

Just like being abused as a child is not excuse for becoming an abuser, being battered does not give you the right to batter someone else.

But hey, preaching to the choir, right?

  19. 19 Barry Jernigan Dec 27th, 2009 at 2:46 pm

I wonder if the Mass Media in general will ever ‘get it’? It’s almost ironic. When a hip hop site posted the glowing review of Mary J Blige’s starting the foundation for female victims of dv I posted critical remarks about it. She expressed a desire to visit Africa and talk to female victims of dv there. I asked if she planned to visit Kenya and talk to the MEN who are victims of dv there who are organizing to protest their government’s lack of concern for them. I also asked how many diamonds she owns and if she is aware (or even care) of the large number of South Africa men killed every year in accidents bringing up those worthless rocks so she and other greedy women like her can look ‘pretty’. I also wonder now if the Mass Media will jump all over her like they are doing to Tiger? I doubt it. If you have a vagina today in America you can get away with anything you want. Is this really a democracy anymore? Sometimes I wonder if we aren’t more like what Russia or Nazi Germany used to be.

I’m sure she sees nothing wrong with what she did and no connection whatever to her abuse of him and domestic violence. And I’m equally sure that she doesn’t think her butt looks fat in those jeans (it sooooo does.) All I can say is that I’m glad to see women here condemning her abusive actions and the double standards that have been written into the Violence Against Women Act which declare all domestic violence to be violence against women and all perpetrators, even when they are on the receiving end of the abuse, to be men. There’s a word for the kind of sexism that allows women like Mary J Blige, Hillary Clinton, Tawney Kitaen, Brin Hartman, etc to be abusers and still claim the saintly victim status for themselves. It’s call MISANDRY and it is basically a religion in the West these days. Blame the man, punch and kick the man, then blame the man for ‘making’ you punch or kick him. Or shoot him in the back with a shotgun while he sleeps. Whatever. She’s an abuser and he should dump her and get far away from her. There’s no sense holding our breathe waiting for anyone like Oprah to hold her accountable. It just won’t happen.

    Dear Kendu,

As you will note if it makes no difference what happens many folk – particularly women – will consider you to be in the wrong. This will be the case no matter what Mary does. Your life is forfeit if she chooses. And many will support her to the point of inventing wrongdoing on your part to justify her violence.

If she will attack you then you can bet your life the kids are not safe with her either. For your childrens’ sake, if not your own, take the kids and run.

Just don’t run to the domestic violence center Mary opened last week, the Mary J. Blige Center for Women. Neither you, as a male victim, nor your children, as victims of a female abuser, are welcome there.

Happy New Year! I am really pleased to read all the comments here that acknowledge that male victim exist and female perpetrators of dv should be held accountable for their actions just as male perps are. It’s about time! ;-)

I’m an advocate for “The Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men and Women,” and I hear stories like this. I’ve heard plenty of stories of tiny women, who beat up on big men, and that the men are afraid of being called wimps, being accused of being the abuser, or not being believed. Furthermore, they often have nowhere to go; VERY FEW domestic violence shelters offer the same services to battered men that they gladly offer to battered women.

In addition, there are often children in these homes, and they, too, are denied services since the abused parent is a man. By denying help to these children, they WILL grow up to be either abusers or victims. This is tantamount to doing nothing about this tragedy at all. What is not good for the ‘goose’ is not good for the ‘gander’ either.

Ms. Blige, your abominable behavior is an embarrassment to women everywhere.

So then will she be arrested and charged with “Domestic Violence”? Where are the blue shirt thugs and persecutors who arrested and charged Chris Brown? What ever happened to “equal justice under law”?

She needs to spend 30 days in jail and have a restraining order preventing her from getting near her husband or children.

As the director of Shattered Men, I am asking of Ms MARY J. BLIGE has or will be charged with domestic assault to her husband. There were many witnesses to this event.

Unbiased research shows that women are as violent as men but arrest records do not show this as often women are not charged. Our Constitution assures there will be equal protection under the law. Ms Blige has opened a women’s shelter so should she not be held to the same standard she holds men?

  30. 30 Shatteredmen Dec 30th, 2009 at 6:33 am

“at which point she shoved the guy aside,”

Actually, this too would be considered assault. Men are told that if an argument gets too heated, they should just walk away. One problem, if they are in an apartment, most of them have one exit. If his wife or girlfriend blocks that exit and no matter how gently he does it, if he touches them to move them out of the way, he can and often is arrested for domestic assault. If he blocks her way out, he would be charged for unlawful confinement.

This report says that Mary “shoved” this person so that is assault and it shows more than heat of passion and intent to assault her husband. Not bad for a domestic violence advocate but I know of many others that have been violent also. Quite often more violence goes on inside a women’s shelter then from the place they left.

great post here and some refreshingly sane comments about our unrefreshingly insane femkulture

where’s the outrage from the american media and the entertainment industry and the endless feminist organizations about Mary J. (Captain) Blighe’s felony Domestic Violence assault?

    zero . . . nada . . . the Sounds of Silence

this is the same feminist media who screeched and pranced for an entire month after Rihanna’s Rumble — we were treated to close-ups of every scratch and sniffle, accompanied by yet more demands for yet more laws . . . to be enforced against males only, to be sure

how deliciously ironic that this pathological, talent-free little monster gets caught whaling on some poor guy right after she opens Yet Another Domestic Violence “shelter” for the “real victims”

the Real Victims always being female, of course

doesnt america EVER get tired of stomping its boys and men? ’cause long ago that became the new (and profitable!) national pastime

the hypocrisy of the amercan matriarchy stinks to high heaven, this has all gone way, way out of control

  35. 35 Shatteredmen Jan 1st, 2010 at 2:32 am

” She’s MUCH more of an advocate of domestic violence than a protector of its victims, apparently”

Good catch. Blige also stated “What are you going to do, Chris Brown me?” She she more on target then most realize because of what was NOT reported in the main stream media…that Chris was being hit with those high heel as he was driving a very expenisve rental car

    Below is a RADAR alert:

RADAR ALERT: Mainstream media suppresses stories of violence by women

When Rhianna hit Chris Brown in the head with her stiletto heels while he was behind the wheel trying not to lose control of the car and Brown overreacted, what did mainstream media report? They showed us Rhianna’s injuries, but were totally silent about what part Rhianna’s temper played in the altercation.

When Tiger Woods’ wife attacked him with a golf club, the mainstream media ignored his wife’s violence. Hardly any of the mainstream media reported that the Florida Highway Patrol described Woods’ injuries as “serious”. Instead they waited for more stories about Woods’ affairs to come out so they could spin it as a tale of Woods’ infidelities rather than about female-perpetrated domestic violence.

Now we have the case of Mary J. Blige, a woman who purports to be concerned about domestic violence, so much so that she has provided part of the funding for a domestic violence shelter named in her honor. But her comment, “Women from all walks of life, not just women from poverty-stricken areas,” makes it clear that only female victims will be helped by her shelter. And her actions make it clear that she believes that as a female she enjoys the privilege of using violence whenever any male displeases her. On Christmas Eve, the New York Post reported that she punched her husband in the face, drawing blood, because she thought he was flirting with a waitress. How has the rest of the mainstream media covered her hypocrisy? The silence has been deafening!

R.A.D.A.R. – Respecting Accuracy in Domestic Abuse Reporting – is a non-profit, non-partisan organization of men and women working to improve the effectiveness of our nation’s approach to solving domestic violence. Shattered Men is associated with this organization.

(sigh) domestic violence laws apply 2 everyone

NOT true……there is a Violence Against WOMEN Act which by its very nature makes it sound like it is OK to be violent to MEN. This act is a multi billion dollar act which does not provide one dime to help abused men although all of the unbiased researchers have shown that men make up half the victims of domestic violence if not more.

There is NO equal protection under the law. I have known many men who were arrested for protecting themselves from possibly even death while the woman was never charged.

    @Shatterdmen

Where does it say that Rihanna was hitting him in the head with a high heel shoe? Where did you get that from? And if that were true, the shoe would have left a mark. A stiletto shoe in the head…he would have had a bruise or a scratch or some sort of a mark on him. There were no marks on him, nothing…and she had bruises all over her face and body. And even if he were defending himself against her (which he wasn’t), was it really necessary to put her in a chokehold (repeatedly) and beat her black and blue? It wouldn’t have been justifiable defense even if he were defending himself…which he wasn’t.

  38. 38 dna Jan 1st, 2010 at 7:20 am

the chris brown-rihanna thing was a total whitewash. no investigation, just total gullibility. How could she have attacked him while he was driving? She’s a woman, right?

Now Tiger Woods and Kendu Issacs. There are multitudes more.

Haven’t you noticed- it’s been open season on men for years while women play the knee-jerk-protect-the-poor-female-game?

    Entire generations are being lost.

Go ahead, try and do something about it.

    Good luck.

“It wouldn’t have been justifiable defense even if he were defending himself…which he wasn’t.”

No one is saying it’s a justifiable defense, they’re saying women’s violence is white-washed.

Do you think if the genders were reversed that Chris Brown would have got away with hitting Rhianna with a shoe even if she had beaten him up in retaliation afterward? Or do you think the mainstream media would have said Chris deserved to get his ass kicked for attacking first?

I am not excusing what she did. I know that in relationships you take your chances. But, men are at record high, continually, cheating on their girlfriend or wife. Do you know how many women, especially black women, who have put trust in their husbands to find out he is cheating with hookers, strippers, and gay men. Black women are dying ( AIDS) everday because of the disrespect from men. Women are just an object, and the respect for their mind and body is not held. No, she should not have hit him. She should have hired someone to get her proof he is cheating, get witnesses, and divorce him. Make sure he get as little as possible for the hard work she has done.
