The most annoying thing about the internet has to be the way things tend to, you know, stick around. Those embarrassing photos someone decided to post on Facebook, that email you dashed off in a heated moment, or perhaps that nice little speech you gave a few years back about bowing out gracefully when the time was right:
Now, it’s true that five years is a long(ish) time. And it’s entirely possible that Leno never really meant what he said in the first place, or that the Big Bad Network made him do it. And yes, it’s entirely possible that at this point, none of us really care. It’s bad enough that this drivel is sharing space with the earthquake in Haiti on the front page of major newspapers.
So Jay lied. I hope Conan finds his way clear to a network that’s not circling the drain. And that Leno gets back to polishing his solid gold Bentley, Kevin Eubanks keeps looking like a dope-smoking Muppet, and the rest of us can just get back to watching “24.”

I don’t see it. This seems no different from what he said last night. NBC just wouldn’t let him out of his contract and offered him a compromise, which he took in good faith Conan would be cool and he wasn’t.
I mean, compare that with this:

With all this hoopla, I’m not even going to tread the waters.
Thank you NBC, but I would rather stick to my [adult swim] thank you.
Joshua, your video just cements my status as being on team Jay. It’s NBC’s fault for creating this mess, and I believe he’s just trying to make the best of it. Also, he seems to have always shown a great loyalty to his staff (by working during the writer’s strike and taking them with him to ten o’clock).
Sure, Conan’s a victim, but that doesn’t make Jay the bad guy.
I think I figured out a solution they could alternate week like divorced parents.
Oh wow, I didn’t realize Deceiver readers were Jay fans. Huh. And while this post is a total rip-off of the Huffington Post article by Rachel Sklar from the 16th, I still agree with putting it out there. And I would like to add that back in November, Jay was already playing a completely different tune from his 2004 announcement (in which he says he is okay with going out while being #1); in the article, the interviewer asks him why they pulled him as host while he was still number 1, and he acts as if it is SO WEIRD and it has never been addressed before or something. Here’s the interview: http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/366971-Jay_Leno_Talks_Back_An_Exclusive_Interview_With_B_C.php?rssid=20065
Man, I’m glad this story never seems to end. And I keep hearing about how Jay Leno fans are lame. I guess it’s because they’re older or something? Maybe that’s true. But if Conan’s fans are so young, and hip why are they at home at 10:30 watching a talk show? Seems like they’d out doing “young, and hip” things.
I don’t watch either of them, don’t care, and will be glad when there’s some new scandal/event to eclipse this idiotic bickering in the headlines.
Yes–I cared so little, I had to let y’all know.
I don’t watch Conan at 10:30pm! I steal it from the internet the next day! At 10:30pm, I’m… well… hmmm, watching Conan would probably be hipper than the things I do on a Friday night, so let’s pretend I never said a thing
Jay and Conan are both victims. Jay was being GRACIOUS when he said he would leave in 5 years. It was not his decision – he was pushed. Johnny got to choose when he left. I guess being #1 isn’t good enough for NBC (if Johnny could sustain his #1 position for over 30 years, why was Jay not given the opportunity to continue at least until his show started declining?) But greedy NBC didn’t want him to compete and beat their asses in the ratings anywhere else either, so they handcuffed him into a compromise even he didn’t want. Why didn’t they just let him out of his contract as they are now doing with Conan? I never thought Conan would work on the Tonight Show because his vibe is more late night and off-beat (though I don’t like Letterman, I still like him better than Conan.) And, I am sorry, people older than 20 (40’s) DO MATTER! Don’t call me an old geezer just because I like Leno. We are not dead yet nor over-the-hill without a sense of humor. We DO count in the rating with the same weight as a 20-something. We actually HAVE buying power for their advertisers. I don’t get this obsession with 20-somethings. They have no loyalty yet they are the most sought-after and pampered group.
Lol Beige! Way to preempt those obnoxious “then omg why are you even READING this article” comments!
And yeah, I’ve never watched either of them.
Dear Jay and Conan,
Thanks for taking the focus off me and what we’re doing to the country.
Love,
Barack
