Oscar winning whack-job, conspiracy theorist, and (probably) 9-11 truther Oliver Stone was in Bangkok to visit your sister, and to give a lecture to high school students on the role of film in peace-building. Peace-building. His visit was organized by the Vienna-based International Peace Foundation.
Eventually, after they served the quiche, talk came around to a new 10-part documentary Stone is working on called “The Secret History of the United States.”
“Hitler is a monster. There is no question,” said Stone. “I have no empathy for Hitler at all. He was a crazy psychopath … But like Frankenstein was a monster, there was a Dr. Frankenstein. He is a product of his era.”
Oh, but wait. It gets better…
Stone said the German dictator was “enabled by Western bankers” and managed to “seduce” Germany’s military industrial complex.

I don’t know about you, and I know I’m not always the sharpest tool in the shed, but I think I know a code word when I hear one.
“Western banker”? Who runs the banks? Who runs the media? I think you know Oliver Stone’s answer to that one. So Hitler came to power in no small part thanks to “Western Bankers”? I guess Hitler was just a puppet.
When asked for comment, Mel Gibson said:”Damned Western Bankers! If it wasn’t for them the Holocaust would never have happened. Which it totally didn’t. And JFK’s real killer was a guy named Irving.”
I wonder how Stone’s Jewish father would feel if he were alive today, seeing a prominent New York rabbi call his (peace building) Buddhist son “deranged” for calling Hitler “an easy scapegoat.”
Daddy just might come back from the grave to slap his boy around — if Richard Dreyfuss doesn’t kick his ass first.

I think now that the Nazis have been unveiled as more left-wing than right-wing, somebody’s trying to step up and–albeit in a comically inept way–defend Hitler. I watched JFK. I believed JFK. Then I found out about the film that debunked JFK. I’ve also seen video of Jim Garrison, and he was the latter day equivalent of Alex Jones. If Oliver Stone told me the sky was blue, I’d look up to check.
Y’see, Hitler inherited the worst mess since the Depression — fact check irrelevant — so it was really the fault of the Weimar Republic. And evil President Bush.
It’s one thing to say that Hitler and others of the time period were affected by the events that preceded them, and that world events are influenced by many players on the international stage, but Stone’s taking it too far. Yeah, WWI and the Treaty of Versailles set the stage for WWII, but Western bankers/Jews put Hitler in power? The man takes the truth and then “makes” the most absurd “connections”. Craaazy.
Also, he didn’t expect his movie about JFK to be controversial? Good to see crazy and stupid still go together.
Is this the best he can do to get attention? Is he jealous of all the great press Roman Polanski is getting or what?

Technically, until cryogenic reanimation or time travel become reality (and it’s safe to say that the latter never will), all people are the product of their era.

Let’s not equate “western banks” with Jews, since not all bankers are Jews, first of all. Secondly, Hitler was a puppet. There have been conspiracies well-established with financiers such as bankers and corporations. These bankers and corporations have formed alliances which surpass countries and laws, and they have funded crazy leaders such as Napoleon and Hitler. Great “leaders” – such as dictators and presidents (like the US presidents) – have come and gone as their use as puppets diminished, but the real rulers are to blame for all (well, most) of what’s going on in the world. Research groups such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderberg Group. Visit sites such as infowars.com and prisonplanet.tv, and a lot will make sense. Plus, you’ll see that Oliver Stone was on to something big. Not all conspiracy theorists are nuts, and some know big secrets that they who REALLY call the shots don’t want us to know, so give this guy a break!

Maybe Hitler rose to power because he was a charismatic, forceful speaker who told people what they wanted to hear while they were suffering desperately in the post-Versailles economic depression. Thankfully for us, he got drunk with power, stabbed Russia in the back, spread himself too thinly and ended up in a ditch, covered in petrol, on fire. But I don’t think he needed any hand-holding to get where he did. If he was backed by an all-powerful cabal of Western bankers, why didn’t he win? Why the need for the ditch, petrol and fire?
So why hasn’t Stone met with an “accident”? If he’s THISCLOSEOMG to revealing damaging secrets?
As the relative of one person who starts off every conversation with references to Skull and Bones and the Illuminati, and another person who checks her back yard for the chupacabra, I’ve got to tell you: If it’s not ALL conspiracy theorists who are nuts, it’s at least 99%.

Okay, I agree that Hitler was a product of his era. After all, the only difference between Nazi Germany and the USA in the 20s and 30s was that Hitler killed the Jews, Gypsys, Blacks, Physically and Mentally disables, Communist, etc. while the USA only had them deported, jailed, and/or sterilized. Everyone was into eugenics back then – to the point that Hitler actually praised the eugenics program instituted by the US government.
But seriously, Western Bankers? Really, Ollie? Is that the best you can come up with? Unless you’re going on to say that Hitler rose to power as a direct result of the reparations imposed on Germany after World War I, then you’re basic premise has no merit.
Besides, there are other, far more entertaining conspiracy theories out there. My personal favourite is the one that blames the Vatican. It has Nostradamus and the Illuminati in it.

The rise of fascism has links to corporate power. American corporations played a role in Nazi Germany and the holocaust, such as IBM’s punchcard machines that tabulated the victims’ data. Corporate allegiance to profit trumps their allegiance to nationalism.
Isn’t it interesting how Hitler Started off by blaming the Economic woes of Germany on Jewish Bankers? Then later this was co-opted to include all Jews??

I never thought I would see the day when “youtube” and “research” would collide in the same paragraph. If that’s the case then my academic credentials are beyond reproach.

So International Business Machines (IBM), a for profit entity, sold business machines to a foreign government and suddenly they’re in cahoots with said government carrying out the holocaust. Using that logic, Bill Gates, who still worked for Microsoft at the time and whose operating system is used on the computers of the federal government, must’ve been in on the planning for the Iraq war. (Not that Im equating the Holocaust and the Iraq War but they are both massive undertakings by their respective governments.)
ALSO by that logic, Google is at least partially responsible for the Internet-cafe’ raids and repression in mainland China. So, to hell with that whole “Don’t be evil” thing.
I would say that when Hitler came to power, his ideas were not so outrageous to the eyes of his counterparts worldwide. In Brazil, where I live, the Getúlio Vargas government was aligned with many of Hitler’s ideas, but then they changed their mind when WWII came (and under pressure of US).
So Hitler had supporters from other countries, but he became the only scapegoat. I’m not telling he shouldn’t be a scapegoat, but the others should be blamed as well.
