Call it getting caught up in the moment. Call it selective memory. Call whatever the heck you want, but this much is clear:
Despite republicans’ best attempts to paint a cozy picture of caribou barbie and the newly elected Senator from Massachusetts, Ms. Palin’s congratulatory call to Scott Brown on the night of his historic victory was not, shall we say, the most memorable moment of Brown’s evening.
On Jan. 28 (more than a week post-election), Brown told The Associated Press:
I don’t know Sarah Palin. I’ve never spoken with her. She’s never reached out, vice versa. I just know what happened in my race, … it’s all been very exciting and very, very positive.
It must have been very exciting indeed, seeing as how he managed to conveniently completely forget about speaking with Palin on the night of his victory.
On January 19, Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton told Politico
Gov. Palin spoke with a very happy Sen.-elect Brown this evening and congratulated him on his most historic victory for not only Massachusetts but the nation.
Could this really be an Oh, Snap! moment from the GOP’s new golden boy? Naww.
The Boston Herald reports:
A Brown aide said the call from the former Republican presidential candidate “had completely slipped his mind,” and added that it was very nice of her to make the call.
You see? He wasn’t intentionally trying to distance himself from Palin — he just, you know, forgot. Oh come on Scott, do you really expect us to believe that taking a congratulatory call from The Sarah Palin could be that forgettable?
(beat)
Naww.

hypocritical? Forgetful. Unimpressed maybe. Not sure how this is hypocritical of Brown.
Not hypocritical. Just forgetful. I do not see the deceiver worthiness here. Hypocritical would be if he went to Washington and voted for the Health Care bill.
I don’t really consider myself a Republican, but I can think of, like, five things I’d like Palin to say to me. And yes they all include congratulations.
Yeah, I don’t really see the point of this post, other than to — yet again — insult Sarah Palin. Caribou Barbie? Wow. Way to be sexist. What are the odds SJS would refer to Hillary Clinton as “Pants Suit?” I’d say slim to none.
Perhaps Brown was trying to distance himself from Mrs. Palin. Who knows… I mean, as much as I love her (and I am a big Sarah Palin fan) I don’t necessarily think she’s “good” for the Republican Party. I hope to God she doesn’t somehow get the nomination in 2012, because that would be the kiss of death.
I think it says a lot that so many people are hung up on her and feel they must keep insulting Mrs. Palin…. they must see her as some sort of threat, or something. Otherwise, wouldn’t they just leave her alone? If she’s truly just a vapid, snowbilly joke, why keep expending so much energy excoriating her? Just ignore her, like I do with Keith Olbermann.
That’s it? He forgot she called? So what.
@ CMS2004 – SJS can’t possibly be “sexist” with that Caribou Barbie barb. Because, according to popular wisdom, since Palin is a conservative she isn’t technically a “woman” so any sexist remarks are automatically forgiven. Also? Not quite sure how this constitutes hypocrisy. I didn’t realize that just because politicians ostensibly share a party that they are required to be BFFs.
@Julie – that’s right, I forgot! A woman is only worthy of respect and/or admiration if she has a “D” after her name. Silly me. ;o)
Yup: Indoor plumbing = (D); Outdoor plumbing = (R). Don’t you forget it!
OK, if we’re stuck with the lame SJS as a poster, could we at least prohibit her from posting about Sarah Palin? It’s clear she is incapable of coherent thought/rational judgment where Ms. Palin is concerned.
Okay, we get it, you hate Sarah Palin. So what? Where’s the hypocrisy?
Weak. And as soon as I saw SJS & Palin in the same line I knew what to expect. What is that? like strike 4?
I imagine the whole thing was a whirlwind for Senator Brown, and he got a bunch of calls that evening from various political figures wishing him a generic congratulations. It’s easy for it all to blur together, so I chalk this one up to forgetfulness. Her call was probably short and similar to every other call he got, and, yeah, possibly forgettable.
Why the heck was the AP asking him about Sarah Palin anyway?
“Why the heck was the AP asking him about Sarah Palin anyway?”
Brown/Palin 2012 or Palin/Brown 2012…
It was forgetful, but probably not hypocritical.
Also, the Caribou Barbie comment was nasty and sexist. But I’m sure you knew that, SJS.
Kinda sad when you have to fabricate a hypocritical situation just to bring up the fact that you don’t like Palin… Next time try to slip that one in with a Deceiver-worthy post, why doncha?
“Brown/Palin 2012 or Palin/Brown 2012…”
Oh, dear…
I think it is way to early to see Brown in anything but the Senate seat. It is a great win for the Republicans, but I think they are putting way too much into it. It is all about the change in the right direction. However, he is much more popular right now than Obama. Palin too for that matter. Dems have got to hate that.
Julie, I just love you. Wanna come over and play Barbies this afternoon?
Oh come on Scott, do you really expect us to believe that taking a congratulatory call from The Sarah Palin could be that forgettable?
Just because you’d drop your panties for a phone call from Palin doesn’t mean everyone else would too.
The author of this post evidently has never been at a winning campaign HQ on election night. The atmosphere is frantic, and the candidate is overwhelmed with demands on his attention. Forget a phone call? Hell, the candidate would forget his NAME except it’s on the signage strewn all over the room.
This is just another very poorly-considered Deceiver post. At this point, I pretty much just glance at this site and move on. I think even the glances will stop soon.
Where the HELL is Simon?
Sure Beige. You bring the Caribou Barbie and I’ll bring the toy helicopter, rifles, and tiny plastic wolves. It’ll be so much FUN!
Also, noting the “Related Posts” section of this entry, has anyone else noticed a tendency to overuse the cleverly-placed stricken-through word in SJS’s post titles? Enough already! It’s annoying!
Guys. Some people don’t like Palin. Shocker I know. And I don’t understand how Deceiver is a “conservative” site. I like SJS stirring things up around here. It’s good for you.
SJS, I don’t see the hypocracy on this one. Although I think it would be pretty hard to forget that Palin called, it is still conceivable that during the excitement of a night like that it could have happened.
CMS2004, unfortunately when discussing how to recruit more female GOP candidates, RNC co-chair Jan Larimer said this “Women sometimes need a little more handholding, or they need their friends to help them make a decision. And by our going in and talking to them and recruiting and educating and training them to either get involved in a campaign or become a candidate, we’re giving them the tools so that they can do that on their own.”
Seriously, women need their friends to help them make a decision? But at least they’re holding their hands and giving them tools.
Now that could have been a hypocrisy moment about how the party actually feels about women.
Agreed. This would only be hypocritical if Brown had gushed about how great Palin is for the GOP and how much he looked forward to speaking with her, and THEN ‘forgotten’ about the phone call. Brown is a RINO after all, that kind of behavior is only to be expected from him.
Palin/Brown 2012? Jesus Christ on a Cracker, no. Just… NO. We’re learning our lesson right now about electing an inexperienced politician simply because they’re “popular.” And I like both Brown and Palin (boy howdy, would that be a good-looking ticket!) but that would just be insanity.
I don’t see what’s wrong with female candidates needing a bit of different treatment or help than male candidates. Men and women are different. Our brains work differently — like, women will wake up almost instantly if they hear a baby crying, but men will sleep right through; their brains are wired to do exactly that — it’s not sexist to admit that. It’s a scientific fact. What’s sexist is to constantly refer to a woman’s beauty as if it somehow invalidates her from being taken seriously. If you (and I mean the universal “you” here) want to make fun of Sarah Palin because she makes boneheaded remarks from time from time, that’s fine (and besides, we know lots of men who do the same thing — Joe Biden, anyone? And yet he’s never referred to as “Delaware Ken,” or somesuch). But for the media, and yes even our SJS here, to harp on her “airheadedness” is simply an attempt to box her into the “just stand there and look pretty” category. And that, to me, is sexist.
I’m a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, and I have no problem if SJS or any of the others on the Deceiver staff call out Republicans as hypocrites. I’ve been known to do it myself…. BUT the pols in question have to actually be doing or saying something hypocritical and not just unpopular. I hate to break it to some folks, but Sarah Palin’s mere existence is not a good enough reason to put her up here.
CMS – you said it! MSM hardly ever calls Biden out for his ridiculous comments. NEither do they go after Obama. Las Vegas, part II anyone?
Women tend to be more emotional then men. That is a simple fact. Sometimes they leap into things with their heart and not their head. Nothing wrong with it at all.
And I agree. Palin/Brown 2012 may sound great, but I want to see substance on a ticket. Look at the last ticket. I voted for McCain just because Obama scared me even more. Conservatives needs someone who will actually do some good, not just look good.
SJS – Love you. It’s about time we started hearing from the other side. This site had gone so far right that I was not reading it much anymore. Too bad for all the haters. They can sure dish it out but certainly can’t take it, as you can clearly see. Hang in there, even with all the insults. You have kept me coming back to the site again. Believe it or not Republicans, there are hypocrites on BOTH sides of the aisle.
Sorry, BB, but where in the statement “I have no problem if SJS or any of the others on the Deceiver staff call out Republicans as hypocrites” denotes an inability to “take it”? In this particular instance, there was — at least to me — no hypocrisy here, just a blatant attempt to smear Sarah Palin and Scott Brown.
Show me an actual example of a Republican being Deceiver-worthy and I’m sure you’ll find the “haters” agreeing. Oh, and don’t accuse people of insulting SJS while simultaneously insulting them. THAT’S Deceiver-worthy, hm?
Yes, there most certianly are.
But *IF* and it’s a pretty big IF, Brown was trying to distance himself from Palin, saying “it was very nice of her to make the call” *still* isn’t exactly “pal”ing up next to her it’s just simple politeness
He could have said something very similar if Obama had called.
There’s just no hypocrisy here.
I mean, what part of “it was very nice” qualifies as “Exciting!”?
Apparently, “noticing left-wing hypocrisy” is equivalent to going “far right”. Whatever.
You have kept me coming back to the site again.
While losing the respect of every discerning, independent-thinking reader the site once proudly attracted. But yeah, you can always get the Kos kids in here – they’re easy. All you have to do is pander to them. Tell them just what they want to hear, reinforce their existing beliefs. No talent required.
Just think about it, SJB. No one will EVER tell you ‘there’s no hypocrisy here’ ever again, as long as you bash the right. You can have all the admirers you can handle, sort of the same way a hooker always has a date.
And for every Beige, YAG, CMS2004, angry army wife, Catharine, JonnyComeLately, skippy, etc., etc., that you lose (and you WILL lose them, every one), you’ll get TEN BB’s! And hey, let’s face it – your regular crowd’s just a bunch of “haters” anyway. Right, BB? Screw ‘em.
Apparently, “noticing left-wing hypocrisy” is equivalent to going “far right”.
Oh, well, you WOULD have to alter the Michael Moore stuff to, er, make him more of a hero. Small price to pay, though, for a clientele that’ll keep coming back to tell you what a Fearless Champion of the Truth you are.
I can’t remember that I was supposed to call my brother on Sunday and it’s Thursday and I still haven’t called. I haven’t won a cushy gov. job that’s going to make me lots of money either, so I don’t even have an excuse for my stupidity.
I like Sara Palin for the same reasons I like Michelle Obama, I think they’re both sharp and kind of gutsy. Right now, I’m not sure I would vote for either one of them in an election though. I think it’s a sad world though if a woman can only be considered smart if she holds the opinions she’s expected to hold. I guess equality doesn’t mean being allowed to think for yourself.
When you attack anyone, not for their behavior, their remarks, or their hypocrisy but because you dislike them you’ve sunk below the line of intelligent discourse. If you can’t be honest about the fact that you’re slinging mud you’re nothing but a hypocrite yourself.
Beige & Julie, Can I play too? I can bring my Pilot Barbie and then you won’t have to let Ken do the flying!
Sure, Nienna! We got cookies!
And we can braid each other’s hair afterwards! Yay!
