Bethenny Frankel Fails to Grasp Concept of “Famous”

Despite the fact that the vast majority of Americans are far more familiar with even the most obscure members of the Palin clan than they are with any real housewife of New York, New Jersey, or even Orange County, Bethenny Frankel can’t figure out why anyone would want to watch a reality TV show about the life of soon-to-be newlyweds Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston.

E! Online’s Mark Malkin reports:

“If it was her mom getting married or remarried it would be interesting,” Frankel told me yesterday from New York City. . . “If it was Sarah was raising the baby, maybe. But what’s the deal with the two of them?”

“I don’t know what they are and I don’t even know who they are,” she added. “I don’t get it. And it would be too awkward to watch them in something L.A. because they don’t belong there.”

Setting aside for a moment that I actually agree with her on the “Bristol and Levi shouldn’t do a reality show” thing, the question remains — who or what was Bethenny Frankel before she was a real non-housewife of New York?

Before Bethenny Getting Married? Before a couple of book deals, a fit pregnancy DVD, low-cal cocktail drink line (oh yes), and, of course, a Photoshopped PETA ad appearance?

A rich girl from New York with a famous racehorse trainer father.

Fascinating.

I really wish they would stop all “reality” television shows. They aren’t real, they are annoying and I don’t know why they are so popular.

Afer reading the above commment I realize I sound soo old.

Could not have posted a better pic of a Snob!

LN. Couldn’t agree w/ you more.

    @ LN

Reality shows aren’t made because they’re popular. They’re made because they are dirt cheap to produce and just enough people like them to make them insanely profitable. And yes, they are super annoying.

I find Bristol and Levi infinitely more likable than this “Bethenny” person. And that’s not really a compliment.

That Bethenny thing has the weirdest looking face….

In non-Sasquatch related news, I agree with other posters, most “reality” tv shows are crapfest…well, except for cooking related shows.

mEEE — THANK YOU! I’ve been saying that since day one. She’s really, really unattractive. And obnoxious.

I can’t stand any of these “housewives.”

I would very much like to knee them till their faces exploded. Seriously.

“…it would be too awkward to watch them in something L.A. because they don’t belong there.”

uhm I think that would be the point. I also don’t get the non-reality show fad. Yea, we’re all old

I would love to be able to taste the food at those cooking related “reality” shows. I am a professional food eater….I eat food to live. Therefore I should be able to be a judge for one of the food shows.

I do love Top Chef, LN. Currently watching Jeff cook like 3 entrees per episode in season 5.

I have found that the only “reality” shows I find bearable are ones, like Top Chef or even Project Runway, where the people are being creative or making things. The “Real Housewives” and “Bachelor” style shows are crap – expect me to care about total strangers, and that they honestly have the feelings they claim to? Not likely.

I turned over to Fox News this morning and Geraldo’s guest host had Bethanney on there. Could not watch it more than 30 seconds. How annoying. She wants to have her own talk show and food show, among other things. Nobody ever heard of her and I only heard of her because of Deceiver.com. People stretch their 15 minutes of fame out too long and it gets annoying.

Also agree with mEEE…that chick is freaky looking. She looks like she could be Minnie Driver’s fugly sister.

Personally, I like a number of reality TV shows. I wonder is some people realize that reality TV doesn’t necessarily have to be game shows as well. I love Dirty Jobs, Pawn Stars, and American Pickers. To a lesser extent, also Ax Men and sometimes Deadliest Catch. You know, ones that are also at least somewhat informative about situations even though I won’t deny that, at least in the latter two, some extra drama may or may not be added. Top Shot is another one I like while watching it for the competitions while the bits of drama may be annoying at times. Personally, I’m rooting for Kelly there and not just because I connect with him on an age basis being only a year off, but also because he seems the most adaptable despite little experience (other than rifles), which is what the show is about.

As for Bethenny’s views, while I disagree that reality shows should only focus on “famous” people (which as mentioned leads to the question of if that were true how did she get on one), they at least should if there’s no other point of the show. However, at least Bristol and Levi have the aspect of being very young parents in a political family and also the show may shed a little bit more light, albeit possibly a rather deliberately aimed light depending on what the producers want, on how much involvement Sarah has in the care of the child since it seems a number of people think she’s doing more of the raising and providing most of the money than the parent’s themselves. It’s not exactly something I’d care to watch, but it has just as much legitimacy as a show than most other reality shows and, at least in my own opinion, more than any that just focuses on famous or quasi-famous people for no particular reason other than that certain demographics want to swoon over even the most irrelevant of “celebrities.”

Top Chef is awesome (barely got hooked this season) as well as Next Food Network Star (barely started watching this season as well)….then again, I have always been obsessed with food & cooking shows, thanks in part to Yan Can Cook and the Frougal Gourmet!

To be fair, before she was a real ‘housewife’ of NY Bethenny had a great career as the runner-up on Martha Stewart’s Apprentice spin-off/knock-off. So clearly she deserves her fame.
